Did Angel fail in his mission?

Um...cuz that's what hero's do? They go on missions to free the world of opposing and murderous entities such as the Senior Partners and demons....or did I get my definitions confused?
 
Angel also had a mission he created for himself for Redemption. He did so many horrible things as Angelus that he wanted to atone for when his soul was restored. His mission may have been altered throughout the time we've known him, but all in all i think he still feels deep down that he wants to make up for what he did.
 
But in "Epiphany" he realized he couldn't.

Angel: I fought for so long. For redemption, for a reward, finally just to beat the other guy, but I never got it ... All I wanna do is help. I wanna help because - I don't think people should suffer, as they do. Because, if there is no bigger meaning, then the smallest act of kindness - is the greatest thing in the world.

At that point he stopped looking for redemption because he knew he could never make up for what he did, all he could do was make sure it didn't happen again.

I think that the Senior Partners' Apocalypse was already planned out enough that Angel's actions didn't derail it, only made it come a little sooner.
