Did Angel leaving make BTVS a better or worse show?

We get a new show.And Angel finally becomes a character in his own rather than whiny, annoying love interest.He becomes a champion.He fought for keep his soul.He saved a lot of people.He got friends.I didn't missed him.Because He had no character on Buffy.He never talked with anyone besides Buffy.Why would he stay?

NB is someone who says what he’s thinking and not caring about the impact in general. I’ve seen many other clips of him. He is a character of his own lol

Well he has the right to have an opinion. But he hates David Boreanaz so I’m not going to pretend that he is objective because I clearly think he isn’t. Has he ever seen the show once in his life ?? I seriously doubt of that !

Yeah, I’m with @thrasherpix . These “journalism” sites love to take things out of context and cherry pick opinions for clickbait. A total mockery of the medium.

I imagine it’s probably difficult for him to watch any of that Buffyverse stuff anymore anyways, what with all the problems he’s had in life. Might be too painful to remember how great things used to be for him.
 
I don't know if it made BtVS itself a better show, but it definitely had a positive impact on the Buffyverse as the world got larger and we got to enjoy a pretty awesome cast of characters on Angel.

As for what NB said... damn, it sounds like the guy is a little jealous. Did his on-screen character's aversion toward Angel translate to real life beef with David Boreanaz?! Although, I'll definitely agree with him when he says Angel was boring on BtVS... for the most part. 😉

I think it was GOOD! I didn't care much for Angel in BTVS, I thought he was pretty useless, but I LOVE him in ATS. I think that was the best thing to ever happen to his character development. Though, I do question some of his actions but still. My favorite "Angel" is him in ATS season 3. I think he was such a goofball with a crush on Cordy lol.

I think Angel leaving allowed BOTH characters to become better and stronger.

Had he stayed he would have either had to become "Buffy's sidekick boyfriend" because it was her show or Buffy would have continued to defer to and run to him to rescue.

Instead both grew a great deal and the Angel got a whole, fleshed out character that made him a much richer character.

BtVS grew into so much more than a high school romance show with vampires. Angel season 1-3 was so interesting that CBS created the copycat Show Moonlight.

Yeah, I think ratings is a good way to look at it. "Forbidden Romance" probably wasn't the story they wanted to tell, but frankly, it pulled in the audience, and was a well they went back to. It also gave us Twilight, so it has purchase.
 
Had Angel stayed they would have developed his character more on BtVS, simple as that. You work with the characters you have. Captain Peroxide got fleshed out, and so would Cordy and Angel had they remained. That said, I love Angel so I am happy that he ended up leaving.

But, considering that I don't really like Buffy the show after season 4, I would have to say that yeah, it was one of the things that made BtVS a worse show for me. You lost two main characters and they had to be replaced with characters that filled similar functions and who are just alternatives of the same thing.
 
I always looked at it from a perspective of my one hour show turned into a two hour event every week. I especially enjoyed the crossovers and expansion of the characters. So, in my opinion, I think it was fine that he left and became his own.

Had Angel stayed on, the writers would've had to have looked at Buffy + Angel, the couple, in a more adult relationship. Like at that point, the gang would need to research how to permanently anchor Angel's soul, because you couldn't have the constant tug-of-war of the 'we want to but we can't' and leaving the couple just making googly-eyes at one another.

They could still focus on Angel's redemption, and really find a place for him in the Scoobies.

I don't think BTVS suffered for his loss. It's a strong enough series to stand without him. It worked either way.
 
Well, The second half of the second season and the third season are some of the best, if not THE best material I've seen on any tv show.

But that doesnt really have much to do with Angel or really with any specific actor. It was simply everything coming together so well and writing on a level that even Joss himself hasnt really reached again ever since.

Angel leaving, it didnt made too much sense to me, but AtS is more Buffyverse, so thats good. I only wished they could have kept AtS going for longer. They ended when it was at its best.
 
Angel leaving didn't make Buffy particularly better or worse - I do however feel that the show had more flaws beyond season 3 but not due to Angel's absence. Angel leaving made room for a change - and change is good.

Plus, the spinoff gave us more backstory, and more Angelus - which is a plus in my books.
 
I could just never get into Bangel. I thought Angel was a whole lot better off in LA with his own crew. And honestly I preferred the show Angel over BTVS.
