I Know pretty dumb question but i always wondered if she had a soul as a VD but i don't know

do you guys know?

BTW wheres the small icon for Anya?

I don't think there is a small icon for Anya!! How sad!! ::crying2:

When she was Ahn, and when she was Anya she was human and had a soul. As Anyanka, the Vengeance Demon, she almost certainly didn't.

See, I thought that initally, Mr. White, but when she got her powers back she felt guilt over the spider eating the people, which would lead me to believe she had a soul.

That would be alot of soul exchanges, going from human to vengence demon, to human to vegence demon and back human again.

yeah i thought the same as you did
Yes she did!!!! The first time she was vengency she didn't care because she gave up finding love or happiness(thanks to big Olaf) or any portion of humanity in her for that matter... Then she found Xander and that all changed next time around she kept on going back to her human doubt....

Because it is said in the show that she didn't?

On what basis are you making this. If it was in the show I apologise, I don't remember it being said.

I find it quite plausible and probable that she would have a soul. In fact being where her vengeance was rooted, a Soul would make it more potent.

yep, d'hoffryn said he needed the life and soul of a vengence demon

Angel lost his soul and had it restored at least a couple of times, so it's not unprecedented.

I think Anya soul was there all the time. Altough, D'hoffryn did state Vengeance demon soul and life. So it does leave small possibility that she had demon soul active opposed to her own, but i doubt it. One thing is clear altough -- vengeance demons have souls, just is it demon or human might need final clarification.

well vengance demons can see souls... But I don't think she didn't have one herself... Even though she asks Spike how he got it.
Soulless things are evil and not empatic, Anya showed lots of emotion and goodness, even as a vengance demon. She reversed a spell, even though she knew it would go bad after that.

I have to agree, i mean loads of people in reality kill, kidnap etc but doesnt mean they dont have a soul just means they have a dark soul. Anya did have a soul its just as a demon she had nothing to fear, she could do what she wanted when she wanted with no bad consequences for her until Giles broke her necklace.
When Anya first got her vengeance powers for all we know she may have felt guilt the first few times she killed or tortured someone and then the more she done it the better she started to feel?

p.s. i really think its about time there was a mini pic of anya to go alonside posts!

Yes, she did.

In "Selfless" D'Hoffryn states that he can only make Anya mortal again by taking "the Soul of a Vengeance Demon" to which Anya thinks he means hers. And assumes that the process will kill her, of course he takes Halfrek's and it really does kill her.

So yes, they have Souls, having it extracted kills them.

You and souls....

Have to agree with Bored, Cordelia was soulless then...

People, not everything is about a soul xD

It was a perfectly reasonable question by the original poster.

They wanted to know if Vengeance Demons had Souls.

It was implicitly stated by the keeper of the Vengeance Demons themsevles that they do.

I posted, I answered, don't see what your point is here, but someone asked I question, it was only polite to answer.

OK, first of all because D'Hoffryn states it, that isn't exactly 100% simply because in season 1 The Master states in an episode that Vampires have souls and we know thats not true.

D'HOFFRYN
Hmm. You want to take it back. Must be twelve bodies in there. Such a thing"”not easily done. But not impossible. You're a big girl, Anyanka. You understand how this works. The proverbial scales must balance. In order to restore the lives of the victims, the fates require a sacrifice. The life and soul of a vengeance demon.

That is the entire line and it is full of rhetoric.

Besides, he does say taking the LIFE and soul which doesn't mean then that extracting the soul kills.

in "selfless" d'hoffryn says he can undo what anya did by "taking the life and soul of a vengeance demon" so that kind of confirms it. i had always thought she had a soul, though.

It was a good question 🙂 I had been wondering that myself.

I think everyone agrees on the soul thing... should the thread be closed? nah

I thought all demons are soulless? I would think Anyanka did not have a soul.

But then I had forgotten about D'Hoffryn saying that they did. Oh well... So I guess that answers it. Anyanka had a soul, just a very evil one.
