I first watched the musical episode and it just got stuck in my head i mean when i first heard about it i was like how can they but after i watched it it was like omg this is amazing i cant get the songs out my head and its been like 5 years since that episode

I believe if you sneak around just a bit, you'll see OMWF is a very loved episode around here. Around everywhere, actually. There are many other threads here if you want to see what people thought about it, there are multiple discussions revolving around just about everything in this episode. =)

I remember being total amazed by it after seing it for the first time.

Didn't know much about it before hand though.
I did know that there was some kind of musical episode and I was actually worried about it, very curious also, but mostly worried that it would end up being very silly or something.
My trust for Joss is much better these days 🙂

What I mostly liked, except that the songs was so great, is that the episode wasn't a standalone. Instead it is a very important episode for the overall arc.
Also liked that so many things finally got said and out in the open.

Now I listen to the soundtrack regulary, and it was one of my most played CD last year (if not the most played).

I wouldn´t go that far. I love it (just so you don´t get any crazy ideas). But it all comes down to your definition of "love" I guess. I finally got my sister to watch the show and I was very curious to hear what she thought of it. She doesn´t claim to love the show. It´s just that she has a hard time to stop watch every time she starts... Anyway. She wasn´t crazy about the episode. She didn´t hate it or anything but I wouldn´t say that she loved it. Maybe she will if she ever rewatches the show. But I´m not sure that´s gonna happen.

I was wondering the other day if there was anyone who didn't love it. Everyone I know who is a Buffy fan just thought it was exceptionally good. People who aren't Buffy fans who have watched it (at my insistence) liked it a lot...
 
The villain for the ep was an OMG OBVIOUS rip-off of The Mask. I thought that the songs (e.g. melodies, arrangements, etc.) were flat, like soda pop that had been sitting out for too long and was room temperature. 🙁 The lyrics were fairly clever, though, and enjoyable:

"She eats these skeezy cheeses that I can't describe."

I disagree.

Sweet was actually more hedged in Show piece villains of the theatre, the melodies and arrangements were tremendous and the lyrics were brilliant for what they were.

Ohhh and its an amazing episode - yet I have always prefered Tabula Rasa.
 
I absolutely love OMWF. Of course, I'm a musical nerd anyway, but I was REALLY pleasantly surprised with the result and you can tell the actors worked hard to get it to be really good. Some had more talent than others, but you can't expect perfection from these TV actors... Most of them never had any experience with stage acting or singing at all.

The night OMWF aired, I watched it at my inlaws' house and neither of them had ever watched a single ep before but knew the general idea of the show, thanks to me. They watched the episode with us and I thought my father-in-law was going to bust a gut at "They got the mustard out!" and "I'll Never Tell". They both agreed when it was over that they wanted to watch more of the show, 'cause the episode was so well-written and -acted. 🙂 Most fans I talk to LOVE the ep and most people I know who have seen that episode who weren't fans liked the ep, even if they didn't "get" it, you know? 🙂
 
Okay, here's a confession. My first encounter with this episode, was by listening only. I heard the songs before I watched the episode itself. Of course now I have it on DVD, so...

There were times where I watched it a few times a day. And it's been, don't know, 7 years? So if I calculate it, I watched this episode hundreds of times, no kidding!

So do I love this episode? mmm, let's think...

Meh. It's a good episode but some parts are unbearable, the sing-along at the end, for example? I think OMWF would've been better as a pointed satire of cheesy musicals rather than just being in the vein of them.
 
It sort of WAS a satire, JCC. It was definitely poking fun at musicals. And it certainly wasn't in the vein of the majority...there was actually an EXPLANATION for why people were randomly bursting into song...
 
Oh, it certainly had Joss' character obviously imprinted on it, but I still felt like it was a slightly wasted opportunity with some of the weaker songs and its aimless moments of satire. There are some great moments, like when Joss starts mocking musicals with people singing about mustard on their shirt and parking tickets, but it just should've been a little better, a little tighter, a little more focused. Good episode, but not the best.
 
Brilliant, brilliant episode 😀 (just watched it)
something you could see ONLY on Buffy...

Tara was surprising (assuming it wasn't someone else's singing).
But all the actors did fine enough (even though they weren't "made" for this)
 
I like the musical episode, but I'm definitely not "in love" with it. I find it a bit overrated, as fun as it is.

It WAS awesome...but 1 musical epsiode was all we needed.
I think its a great episode, one thing that really annoys me though is in Under your spell/standing (Reprise) Giles puts on the creed voice and accent where he says the O's really funny.
