Did anyone else become comic crazy?

Okay, I have NEVER been a fan of comics. I always thought they were just pretty pictures with captions in a hard-to-follow-why-does-this-have-to-be-so-damn-confusing-wait-who-said-that-or-is-she-the-one-saying-that-urg-I-hate-the-way-they're-drawn structure.
But after Season Eight came out, I decided to give them a try and after I learned how to read comics correctly, it's like witnessing an episode on paper. So, I decided to give the Omnibus volumes a chance, and now I'm hooked. I'm even starting to collect the Buffy comics, as well as other series.

Did this happen to anyone else?

I've always been a comic book fan and how I think people can relate to the tragedy of Superheroes and the basic acts they do because they feel they have to which really separates them for others. I originally read a lot of Spiderman and Batman comics but it was mainly the pictures as I got older I started reading darker stuff like The Punisher, Batman The Long Halloween, Sin City. I personally think comics and graphich novels are unappreciated pieces of litreature because of the fanbase it draws.

Always have been a comic book fan since I was a wee lad. Still am, but don't collect as much. They're so damned expensive these days and money is too much of an issue to splurge. Back when I was collecting they were from seventy-five cents to a dollar. Now, they cost as much as a meal and I'd much rather eat. I collected mostly Marvel stuff before the movies ruined them 🙂)), especially SpiderMan and X-men books. I have about a thousand sitting in boxes in my closet and some are worth a good bit but I'd never dare part with them. Part of my childhood and also like Spuffy up there said, it's literature.
Sadly, I haven't read the Season 8 books but thankfully I found this place that keeps me filled in.

Up to to my twenties I still read comics now and then, especially Spiderman and Modesty Blaise, but then I stopped - a combination of it becoming a bit embarassing in my mature age and finding books more rewarding. But with Season 8 I'm back to comics again, and it's spreading to other titles. Another positive Whedon influence...

Other than a very few comics, mainly the "Death of Superman," and "Resurrection of Superman" series, I hadn't read any comics in more than 30 years. Buffy and Angel rekindled my interest, however, if only in a very specific area, and now I mark time by when the next episode of Buffy comes out. I even bought a pack of plastic sleeves to preserve each issue in.

I've never read comic books in my life, but I LOVE S8! Mostly because it's the continuation of Buffy and not because it's a comic book. So I'd say I'm obsessed with Buffy, but not comic books.

At a very young age I was a comic fanatic (considering my age). Bought loads of them and always wanted more. But like Old Swede I stopped, but I´m sure I stopped way before my 20´s. In my mid 20´s I wanted to start collecting x-men but soon realised that would be way too expensive. I do have Asterix - The complete collection which I´m a bit proud of. That was my granddad´s favourite comic so it´s a nice reminder of him.

I also have a lot with this guy, Hälge. A classic around these parts. It´s about hunting and even though the main character is a moose it´s very popular among hunters as well. And even though I´d love to have a complete collection I´m nowhere near close even if I don´t bother to buy the "regular" comics.

I also have a few Modesty Blaise collections.

But other than that I´d quit comics many many years ago until Buffy made me start buying season 8. Which also got me to buy Fray which I´m very happy about. But nowdays it´s mostly just Buffy and not much else. My interest has gone up though so with money I might have bought more but for now it´s all there is.

Comics never interested me, but I knew immediately that I wanted S8 when I heard about it. I follow the canon, y'know? I wasn't convinced to begin with, but I think the fact that I get the Trade Paperbacks helped me accept them, and get into them a lot more. I don't think I could deal with the whole "wait a month for a few pages" deal.

So, no, I didn't become comic crazy, but I do like the comic collections. I have definately found myself considering the Omnibi since - something I never thought I would do.

I discovered Asterix in the library when I was a kid. I really liked that one, but it was hard to find, because I wasn't European. I used to check for it at every new library I encountered though.

I've been into Marvel comics too. The last comic I remember being into before Buffy though, to the point I actually bought them, was this one...

I have done some collecting though, mostly because I like to collect things 🙂

Got all Tintin, and most Lucky Luke.
It was those kind of comics I liked. Never done the Marvel stuff and such.
Also really like Modesty Blaise but didn't get far in my collection there.

I love the Buffy season 8 comics and collects them.
Also buy Angel, but I don't like it quite as much.
Recently I also got Fray and some Firefly comics.

And to answer the question... no I haven't become comic crazy.
I buy them because Joss is involved and because it is Buffy and Angel.
Still not very interested in anything else.

With me,I bought loads of comics when I was younger...mostly DC. Not the superhero type,mind you...my choices tended to fall a bit darker. I was a MAJOR fan of Suicide Squad,Checkmate and Vigilante. Then I fell out of comics for a while.

When S8 started up,I got back into the game and I've been buying them since. Not just Buffy-mind you-but also the Suicide Squad maxi-series(and it STILL kicks ass years later;hopefully,it'll return as a series once again),and a couple of Wildstorm books(ironically enough,both adapations of TV series-Chuck and Fringe). I also noticed that DC's bringing back Vigilante,too-so I may add that to my queue as finances dictate.

I have always loved Marvel movies and the cartoons but I never really knew how to get into the comics. Then when I found out Buffy was in comic book form I went out and bought the first few issues and then I really understood how comics work. So at the moment I am subscribing to Buffy Season 8, Angel After the Fall, The Runaways (Marvel), The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Marvel), Chuck (DC, only 6 issues), Spike After the Fall and then Young Avengers when it comes out. I am also getting caught up with Ultimate X-Men and Young X-Men: Academy X. So yeah I am quite thankful to Buffy cause now I know how to read comics!

Yeah it happened to me too. I used to read TinTin and christian Archie comics as a kid but then nothing for years, although i was a huge fan of the animated x-men series. Then I heard that season 8 was coming in comic form and that led to my discovery of the whole world of buffy-related comics - tales of the slayer, tales of the vampire, Fray as well as Spike: Asylum - which I collected while waiting for season 8 to appear. Now i have a regular pull list, have collected the buffy omnibuses (omnibi ?) am completely mad about Angel: After the Fall and have even read a few non buffy-related comics such as Umbrella Academy. Comics rock - even though my comic shop guy is a little scary.

When I was younger I read a lot of European comics, like Tintin, Suske & Wiske (Spike and Suzy), Lucky Luke. But they're very different in tone. But my interest in them sort of died with puberty.

Since S8 was announced I started reading American comics, which I love. Next to Buffy & Angel, I also have a subscription to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

As an adult I never read comics until the late 90's, when titles like Transmetropolitan, Sandman, and Preacher got me hooked. I read very few superhero books, though. After "Birds of Prey" ends its run early next year "Wonder Woman" will be the only superhero book I get. (Because Gail Simone writes it...she should be writing for the Buffy comic. Curse her exclusive contract with DC.)

I keep karma-ing people because I'm so delighted they like the same comics I do...

Here's the first comic I myself purchased with my allowance in middle school:

Yep, I know it's right smack dab in the middle of the nineties, which was considered a poor time in main stream comics. But that right there is what got me hooked. Now I read Marvel and DC as well as indie titles. Can't get enough of just about anything.

And, of course, really really pleased about Buffy's metamorphosis into the medium of ink and pages.

I have never been a comic fan, but the Buffy and Angel comics have convinced me. I am gonna try Neil Gaiman's Sandman series next. One thing that is hard to get used to is how different the pacing is from a tv show or a book, a lot less happens in one comic, and each comic is more independent or serialized. I really do like serial story telling, that is why I tend to read books that come in long serieses, but the comic pacing took maybe 10 issues for me to feel comfortable with.
