Yet god is supposed to be perfectly good and he is the only one allowed to use something that he has declared evil. Yeah, that seems to make the kinda sense that isn't...
The power of Magic is something that man is not experienced enough to use/understand truly. God rule that we should not play with something we cant understand is a just one. You teach any child NOT to play with something they know nothing about.
I cannot tell you the number of times that I have come home to find my dog using a wand to get cheese out of the fridge. *sarcasm* The only kind of people who think things like that really happen are the kind of people who live outside of reality and don't even know which way is up.
Seriously, lay off the sarcasm......if you have to put the word in YOUR NOT DOING IT RIGHT!!!!
If you are as intelligent as you claim to be then you will be aware that the comment yours is a reply to did not even suggest anything like you have tried to make out.
Its not a matter of being outside reaility. The Christian Church is against the use of Magic....now your mocking this as though magic doesnt exist, if it doesnt we dont have a problem.....but if it does....we still dont because we keep away from it.
Well, its my right to be offended when they don't show us the same respect that you want me to show them. You've already said that God has condemmed the proverbial witch, but that's contradicting my belief's isn't it. Just a bit hypocritical me thinks.
I have not said that God Condemns the 'Witch'. I've stated that God does not wish his Children to practice in arts that they do not know enough about.
Your issue isnt actually with Christianity and Christians in general, as most would actually show respect...your problem is with the few people that have commented against you. Fact is, if you were to go to a Hindu, Jew or Catholic
and claim to have magical abilities they would mock you...your picking on Christians because its part of their belief structure so you believe its easier to comment...on a board dedicated to a supernatural programme, in which most people would side with you.
You don't believe that wiccans and/or pagans are harmed by it? When their ignorance cause fear and hatred among the masses, so that they wish to reach out and smite us? If my parent "came out" at work they would be fired, and if they came out in my town, we would be run out before it got past our neighborhood. I'd say that is harmful by my definition. What's your definition of harm?
I think you need to stop playing the Martyr. There are plenty of societies out there that people dont fully understand. Most people let them get on with their lives. I highly doubt that you would have the problem JUST from Christians....again you would be mocked by most.
How many families have actually 'come out' in your neighbourhood, and how many of those were chased out by pitch-fork wielding farm hands. Yeah....
There are many groups that have Wiccans and Pagans where i am from. They are greeted as regular people, treated as they were just another religion.
I have read the Koran and the Torah, I know the story of Buddha and have read other tales of his previous lives. I have gone to many different and varied kinds of churches: Baptist, Christian, Catholic, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Church of Christ, as well as others. I've also been to Temple, a Jewish Synagogue, and I was baptised a Presbyterian. I have read three different versions of the Bible as well as several books about the bible. I'm probably as well informed if not more informed about religions as any religion major.
Bully for you, so you know about and have experienced other religions. I too have Read different variations of the bible, involved myself, through a trusted friend, in Jewish festivals. Partcipated in knowledge searches of different religions, be they , Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, Islam, Mormonism, Rastafari, Sikhism, Unitarianism, Bahà¡'à.
Read the Torah and The Koran. Yet i am still ignorant of a lot of facts....as i can say with certainty, you are.
I kinda thought I was enlightening people with my opening post, but I guess I'll have to try harder.
Your opening post was far from enlightening. You began with this comment "Does anyone ever wonder why the Christians and other "God" centered religious people try to ban the Harry Potter books from schools and forbid their children to read them, but the same people encourage their 10, 11, and 12 year olds to read the Left Behind series which includes graphic sex scenes of adults with children?"
The fact you placed "" around God is itself somewhat offensive to the people who have God as part of their religion. Then you go on to comment on these entire religions decisions to NOT have a selection of books as part of their reading material as though its a personal attack. Its a belief they have. Just like you wouldnt ask a jew to comsume a pig as its opposing their belief, why should you ask a Christian to mentally consume something that opposes their beliefs.
Then you go on to comment about the sexual nature of Harry Potter. Thats not anything at all to do with the reasons for its ban.
Also, the books actually promote underage drinking. The ability to control others thus loss of freewill.
You also end your first comment "I am now open for comments."
Yet the first comment that gives a justified reason you attack as though its a personal attack on you. You are in a loony world sort of world IF you believe that everyone should agree with you, and if you didnt want an opposing argument you should either have said i dont want anyone to post who opposes the thread...or not post at all.
Speaking of religious ignorance, what about the ignorance that people have of their own religion. I know a lot more about Christianity than many Christians I could name. Christians and the Catholic church, I have found also have selective memories, because they don't remember many of the things that they used to say were stated in the bible, that they deem wrong and evil, today. For example, in the early part of this millenium, in an earlier less edited and revised copy of the bible, men were permitted to beat their wives and children and the length of the stick they were to use to do it, was specified in the book. The same bible also said that women are the root of all evil and that pregnant women were considered unclean and ungodly, and were not permitted inside a church when they were pregnant. They were not allowed back into the church until they had delivered of the baby, and even then there was a time period to wait, less if the baby was a boy then if it was a girl. If the woman died in childbirth she was buried in unconsecrated ground with the other unclean, the murderers, theives, rapists, and other criminals.
Again, you attack here. Yes there have been things in the Bible that have been changed. And your issue with that? Would you prefer we went back to the days this was OK and decide to keep it in the Bible. No....Things do change, people, societies, religions evolve. I dont understand you. You complain that we dont then you complain that we do....make your mind up.
Maybe in a hundred years, the Christian Church accepts that Magic if used right is ok...or maybe in a hundred years Magic is shown to be the work of Satan...we dont know. We can only go on what is NOW.
I have seen selective memory used by EVERY different race, creed and Colour about every aspect of their lives. From religion to family. I say Big Deal.
I bet you yourself have at one time chosen to forget something that your not proud of.....Point is, NOW what you said above is not in practice en masse.
Wow, that's kinda arrogant don't you think? I'm pretty sure I've proved my self a bit more informed than you are and you are pretty ignorant about my religion. Can you say the same about me? I have done my research and I have thought about it before I write or say things.
Why have you assumed that the comment was aimed at you. IT IS FACT that the general populace knows littel of their OWN religion so why should they have a knowledge of another. Their was no arrogance or ignorance in that commet....You maybe one of the informed...BUT for everyone informed there are at least a million uninformed.
I have made no claims to know all about everyone, i have made claims that NOONE knows all about everyone.....if you believe that is arrogance or ignorance then you should look those words up in the dictionary.
Wiccanism and Paganism is almost all philosophy. You know, a way to live your life? According to Wiccanism and Paganism if you follow the basic tenet of "and it harm none, do what ye will" you are considered a wiccan or pagan.
And what is your point. Those are your beliefs.....i as does every other person on the planet have their own beliefs...doesnt matter what religion, if any, they follow.
All of those beliefs come down in some way to a philosophy....be it written in a book millenia old or written on a beer mat that some thought...yeah that sounds like a nice ideal to live by.
Well, gee, that's a terrific policy. I can see why there are so many people who worship God. You can do whatever you want and still reach "heaven" as long as you are sorry about what you have done... I am so glad that the American legal justice system is less lenient.
Yes that IS a terrific policy. Its not a matter of murdering your neighbour then going to the church and asking forgiveness. You have to want it, believe in it and pay some form of repentance. Just like doing a crime. Your comment here actually shows a total ignorant side of your argument.
When did I ever condemn any religion?
When did i ever say you did?
