I think that in some ways she ment it. yeah she told spike and he said that she didnt but She told angel that she didnt love him, but that he was in her heart. So maybe it wasnt lover love, but maybe it was turning into family love

I definitely think Buffy meant it in some way. Like Wiccaness said, Buffy said Spike was in her heart, so I think she felt something for him.

in some ways , when he said " no you dont but thanks for saying it anyway" you could see the guilty kind of look in her eyes as he was right.

Did Buffy really mean it when she told Spike that she loved him? Yes, she meant it.

By "I love you," did she mean a deeply passionate, earth shatteringly romantic, unending and boundless love, the kind of love that would make even the gods weep with jealousy? Not yes, but HELL yes!

I think she meant it, it was pretty obvious in the episodes leading up to "Chosen" that she had some form of affection for Spike.

I said in some ways. I said this because he was the only person that was there for her after she got ripped out of heaven. She could only "feel" with him. So in some ways, I think she did.

I'm tossing up between 'Yes' and 'In some ways'. Yeah In some ways, but I remember a quote from James saying that he thought it was obvious that Buffy's love was for Angel.. then again Joss says something different in the audio commentary, so I'm confused.
At the time of the last ep I had a lot of Spuffy friends who I'd debate with because I preferred Bangel (still do, generally), but when I saw the scene, it was so sad that Spike was dying, and I was like 'Tell him!!! Tell him!!!!' LOL, which is funny considering the things I had been saying before. Pfft, I dunno I'm still confused though, I'd like to think she meant it, what's life if you can't fall in love anyway.

of course she loved him - not a 'kind of love' not a 'sort of love' and certainly not a 'sympathy love'. She loved him, was 'in love' if you prefer, otherwise she wouldn't have said it!

If thats the case then why didnt she correct Spike when he told her she didnt?

"No you don't..."

Buffy was obviously in momentary shock by Spike's apparent rejection of her, which was his exact intention. Otherwise, she would never have left him to die doing what obviously had to be done. That was why his first action in reappearing in Los Angeles was to ask about and try to find her. By the time Spike was corporeal again he realized that something very bad was coming and Angel wouldn't be able to handle it by himself.

i think she said it because he was dying, but not because she felt sorry. he was acting like a champion, saving the world and giving up his life (buffy has a thing for champions! 😉)
but i don't think she really felt it. saying "i love you" it's a pretty big thing and even spike noticed she was just trying too hard. it was an intense moment and she really wanted to feel what she was saying, but you could see in her eyes that guilty look.

Yeah did seem as more of a friendly type of love than a bf/gf one... before you say it friends have sex all the time lol

No, I don't see it myself. She said it because she felt responsible for Ensouled Spike and because he was sacrificing himself and she knew it was what he wanted to hear. But even he knew it wasn't true.

what you see as a guilty look, i see as real emotion. She says he's done enough, to take the amulet off - but he says he's got to finish the job and she accepts that - knows what its like to have to make a big sacrifice for the greater good - she's done it herself. The difference here is that Spike is saying, you don't have to do it this time, i will. I won't make you run a sword through me, i won't cause you to jump off a tower, i will take your burden because i love you. So she says i love you to him - not because she has to but because she feels it. he is in her heart, she loves him but more importantly, she is able to say it to someone, a man, other than Angel for the first time since they broke up because the whole point of season seven has been teaching her to love again after shutting off her heart at the end of season three/beginning of season four. Love is about actions not words. the words are nice but actions tell the whole story, the real story. Buffy and Spike's season seven relationship in season seven is remarkable - it's the building of love in action - each and every episode.

Ahh! Exactly what i would have said.
i voted yes... i dont know if it is true... but i want to belive it. Of course she had feeling about him, she spent so many time with him and what i think is that she meant it, and she realised that later. she missed spike... what i dont know is: Buffy loved more spike or angel? I dont know but i think she loved both.... :/

She did mean it, but not necessarily in the "I'd end the world for you" way
Spike meant a lot to her, and she did love him. That's obvious throughout season 7, she would give up a lot for him and the fact that she wanted him to stay with her in Touched but not in the "let's have wild crazy sex" the way everbody else was doing in that episode, which to me says that she COULD love him in an earth shattering way, but she would have to build up to it. She got her strength from him because he was there for her in the way that she needed him to be.
So really, I believe that she loved him, but Spike didn't. He thought she was just being sympathetic coz he was gonna die
but you could clearly see that Buffy was hurt when she realized Spike was gonna die, which again shows she has genuine feelings for him

That's just my opinion =]
