I just found this picture and it really made me thinking long and deep about the message it wants to give us:

What dou you think?

I don't think she lost "more", but I think she lost a lot.

Willow lost a lover, a best friend and an anchor (because Tara was always the one to tell her how magic could go wrong and she was there to support her whenever she thought she needed help).

Dawn lost a big sister. Tara was acting more like a sister at times than Buffy. Because she wasn't her real sister, there wasn't this kind of competition always going on between siblings. But Tara was always there to talk, to play, to take care of her. Plus, Tara was sometimes left out of the loop too (although less than Dawn). And in S6, Buffy had her own problems with being back from Heaven and getting her life back on tracks. And she had to work and make sure Dawn was safe and that social services wouldn't take her away. Tara didn't have those concerns (well, yeah but just as side concerns), so she was really more a friend/sister to Dawn, while Buffy was acting like a mother.

So no, I think Dawn didn't loose more than Willow when Tara died. I think she lost her in a different way. But that death, so close to her mother's (1 1/2 year) and Buffy's (1 year) was another big weight for such a young girl.

Dawn and tara were alike.
I say that because theye were both shy, different of the scoobygang, a little away from the others.
They were often together.
When Tara decided to left buffy's home because of the comportment of willow, Dawn was collapsed.

I don't know who lost more when Tara died. Willow fled into magic, Dawn was all alone. I don't think Tara was a mother-replacement for Dawn, but something pretty close to it. She was definately more than just a good friend.

I think with Tara's dead Willow lost a part of herself, she freaked out because there was something lost in her life. Dawn lost something too in her life but she couldn't escape from her normal day life and all in all I think that a teenager shouldn't, no can't watch a beloved person die without consequences. I think she become very numb when Tara died. Or at least she wasn't as happy in season 7 as in season 6.
So as conclusion I think Willow lost more even if Dawn had changed more since Taras dead. Yes more then Willow who abused magic. Because Willow abused magic even before Tara died.

She lost a really good friend. Tara seemed to pay more attention to Dawn than anyone else. She really supported her with all the crap she was going through mentally and that could have had a huge impact on her. She definitely did not lose more than Willow though.

I disagree,i think Dawn lost more than willow,or at least as much . Tara was Dawns sister, aunt, mother, and friend. She was everything to Dawn that no one else would take the time out of their self indulgent lives to be. She was the one thing Dawn had and it was taken away violently. Willow had Xander,Buffy,Giles, and Kennedy. Still, all that poor Dawn ever had was sweet Tara. 🙁

they lost different things, Dawn lost someone who would have been there forever no matter what, she lost a parent type figure, who hadn't yet become a wholly parent type figure, she was close but not entirely, so I'd say Dawn lost something special that has never been replicated.

Whereas, Willow lost her great love, but she has had subsequent loves, but Tara will never have another parent type figure now cos she's too old.

For Dawn, losing Tara most likely felt like losing her mom all over again, I think aside from Willow, Dawn is the one that certainly loved Tara the most among the Scoobies, it's very evident that Tara was the person Dawn wanted to look up too, and she was the last person out there that truly took care of Dawn. Buffy did her very best but she was still absent, and the rest of the Scoobies never really got past the "Dawn is my best friend's little sister" phase. Tara was the best role model any kid could have, and she was the last of Dawn's family in the sense that after Joyce and Buffy died, and Hank left years ago, it was Tara that took care of Dawn, she became more than just a friend. So yes, Dawn lost a lot after Tara's death.

Does it compare, or surpass Willow's lost? I'm not sure, Willow lost her soulmate, it's pretty explicitly said that she was suppose to be her forever, so I'm not sure who lost more. Willow might have had a better support system than Dawn, but I'm not sure the two lost can be compared.

One thing I do believe is that once Dawn is older and mourned Tara, she'll have recovered much better than Willow did. Yes were shown that Willow moved on in s7, but I think she'll always feel like there's something missing. Bottom line is long term Dawn probably lost less than Willow, but in the moment, the lost might have been pretty equivalent.
