Thoughts??

I mean Season 5 had two in The Body and The Gift...both I
think are universally acknowledged as among the canonical episodes of the entire series.

Season 4 had Hush, 6 had Once More With Feeling...

Thoughts?

Depends of what you mean by "iconic". I find it strange to count The Gift as the same as Hush, The Body or OMWF; the latter three are iconic due to their creative breaking of standard TV means of storytelling and viewers' expectations.

If you count "The Gift" as iconic, I would definitely also cite these by season:

S1: Prophecy Girl
S2: Passion, Becoming I&II
S3: The Prom (possibly)
S4: Restless - the only one that is possibly the same category of "iconicity" as the three Big Ones (Hush etc.)
S5: Fool For Love
S6: Normal Again
S7: Chosen

If i had to chose an iconic episode for every season it would probably go some thing like this,

S1- Prophecy Girl
S2 -Passions
S3 - The Wish
S4 -Hush
S5 -The Body
S6 -Once More With Feeling
S7 -Either Conversations with Dead People or Chosen

Concerning S7 I have to say Chosen. Overall altough it lacked clear special episodes like OMWF, The Body, Hush or Wish. CWDP was great, but not iconic imo 🙂 I have not seen first 2 seasons for 10 years so i can't say much about them. I remember both Passions and Prophecy Girl rather vaguely.

Iconic doesn't necessarily mean having to impact tv at large but most definitely needs to stick out from the show's entire history.

I think S4,5, and 6 have episodes that are awesome for reasons that go beyond Buffy. And therefore have claims to owning an iconic episode.

S2 can make a strong case for Becoming 1+2.
S7 has Chosen, which is an amazing episode in its own right.

Am not as convinced about 1 + 3. Though 3 is one of my favorite seasons, it doesn't really have an episode that goes above and beyond. Though as a whole, one strongest seasons.

I couldn't decide whether or not to make this a new thread or not, but I think it ties in. Forgetting the word "iconic" for a minute... what episode in each season do you think best sums up the feel/mood/style of that season? This is like the opposite question of the first proposed in this thread. Obviously Hush and OMWF would NOT be the most generic/quintessential episodes of their perspective seasons. As I'm not the most familiar with the series just yet, I'd be curious to hear what others have to say.

Well, I guess the only real "iconic" epy's are Hush, Body, and OMWF. But I guess just within the Buffy community you can count:

S1: Welcome to the Hellmouth, Prophecy Girl
S2: Innocence, Passion, Becoming Pt. 2
S3: Grad. Day (?)
S4: Restless
S5: The Gift
S6: All 3 dark Willow epy's.
S7: Convos w/ Dead People, Chosen

In terms of format, I think Hush, OMWF and the Body were the only "iconic" eps. When talking about from a within the universe perspective I think many episodes were iconic.
