Did Gunn ever learn?

Here's one to talk over. Gunn sold his soul at 17 for the War Wagon, but with Angel's help, he managed to get out of having to pay the debt.

Then, he goes and makes a deal with Sparrow...true he didn't know Fred would be hurt but shouldn't he have realized that anything from W and H will have consequences? I know he didn't exactly sell his soul again I THINK, but he might have, the conduit told him it already had Gunn's life when he tried to trade it for Fred's.

He was also beating himself up in First Impressions for people getting hurt because he let his guard down.

So maybe what Cordy said back in First Impressions was true, Gunn was his own worst enemy and did keep running into problems because of his own decisions. It just kinda seems to me like he didn't learn his lesson well enough about both letting his guard down, and making shady deals.

Gunns not the type of person to change after one mistake. When the guy came back for his soul, the only person in danger was him but thats happened a lot. However, after a mistake got Fred killed, that may have changed him. It got someone else hurt.

Gunn almost strikes me as something like a serial drunk driver. Very slow to catch on about his actions and their possible implications for the other people around him.

You could argue the truck thing was just an incredibly stupid, youthful mistake. But the deal with the WR&H doc, he knew better.

I think he started vamp hunting out of survival, comraderie. And yes, also a sense of justice, protecting the innocent. When his sister was vamped, it seriously damaged his judgement, just in general. It's understandable. He became reckless at times, even more of a vigilante. Just like Angel after the Darla revampification.

And of course, he's adamant, he'll never go back to being a nobody street hustler type. He sees a shortcut to success with WR&H and gives in to temptation.

I think Gunn may have started to finally learn when he was in the hospital after Wesley knifed him. Angel was trying to cheer him up. Saying that we atone, fix things, by doing. Not by moping in our hospital beds. We may not be able to correct a specific screw-up, but we have to keep trying, in general.

Yeah, I agree 100%. It was a wake up call to him when his mistakes affected somebody else.

NO ONE is in the habit of changing after one mistake. That includes Gunn and all of the other characters.


Look at the other characters. They are just as bad as Gunn. I wonder why he is solely compared to a serial drunk driver.

They all sold their souls when they accepted the offer with Wolfram & Heart! They all knew about Gunn's past action. Why didn't they learn from that as well?
