I think he did. If I were him I would've let Fred push him into the portal, after all he did it to her. I completely agree with Wesley when he asked if Fred could handle the weight on her shoulders from killing someone, and she said yes, so he didn't worry about it.

I think Fred should've thrown him into the portal.

I don't think Fred should have pushed him into the portal, the burden on her would have been to great and i think she would have regretted it the moment she did it. But i am glad Professor Seidel did die!

Clearly, the man was in very VERY bad need of killing, but I'm not sure that Gunn was the one to do it. In fact, I'm pretty sure that he committed a major mistake here. Sure, allowing Fred to do it herself would have caused the lady some major post homicidal stress, but, as we saw both before AND after this, Fred is a lot tougher than she might appear at first glance. She could've handled the job herself, then Charles could have been there to support and comfort her, which would most likely have strengthened their relationship instead of destroying it.

Well said!
Hmm. I think Gunn only did what he thought he had too. He thought by pushing the professor into the portal he would spare her the pain of killing a human and th possible regret she might feel over it. He knew killing a human would really affect her (he'd "lose" her as he said). He loved her so much he was willing to do it himself. Was it the right thing to do? Who knows. Gunn is known for being impulsive. He operates under instinct - not always logic 🙂

^ Joan, you are the smartest woman on BB I've ever had the pleasure of a reading a post from. 😉 (Partly because your sig is badass 🙂 )

I think it was almost, kind of selfish. Like, he STOLE this from Fred. I would've been extremely pissed if I were her. Plus, I think Fred had more "post-traumatic" stress from the strain on Funn's relationship than if she would have killed the Prof.

Well, really I'm kinda glad that Gunn did this. If he didn't, Fresley wouldn't have happened. 🙂

Thanks The Ferg :) Agreed about Fresley.
The problem is that he did what he did to relieve Fred of the guilt. Th problem is is that she felt the guilt of what she was about to do and Gunn doing the deed only compounded that feeling. He also lost the light she fell in love with. The reason I believe this is because Fred constantly takes partial responsibility for what happened: "What WE did". So while his intentions were noble, it only made things worse and he didn't save her from the darkness of the deed either.

Good point. She was still complicit.
Gunn doing what he did, is the main reason I like him, as yes I know it's season 4 and how could I not like Gunn already but this action is what made me...I suppose respect Gunn.

I don't know if killing the doc was the right thing or not but I can say i'd do the same thing.

I agree with WA and Kana. Not only can Fred bear (and has she borne) a lot more than it would first appear. As her boyfriend, Gunn should have respected her enough to let her make her own decision and to suffer the consequences. By doing the deed himself, Gunn undermined the relationship. Furthermore, as Kana already indicated, his actions did not produce the intended result. Fred was still complicit in the Professor's murder. She had still intended to do it. She had still acted on and announced that intention. He had still died. She still felt the burden of murder and fell from the pedestal on which Gunn had placed her.

I think Gunn acted impulsively. I can't say that his intentions were wrong, exactly, even if they were rather annoyingly macho and disrespectful of Fred's right to make her own decisions, but I also think that putting a little more thought into the matter could have saved their relationship and strengthened it in the manner that WA indicated. This is a very complicated moral area. Fred's revenge seems justified, but not "right." Gunn's actions seem justified, but again, not quite "right." I don't think there is any "right" when it comes to killing a human, even one who needs to be killed. I do, however, think Fred's way was less right than Gunn's way. If that man should have been killed by anyone, it was the woman whom he had quite literally sent to Hell and back.
