This isn't a mean thread, i really like DB but is it me or did he put on weight in season 5?
I think he did, for me it ruins the whole immortal idea. But i guess vampire could still put on weight right? after drinking to much blood? oh the calories! lol

Yeah, I though DB piled on the beef abit in s5, he still looked good, but like you say, maybe he just had too much blood..but I always thought he was stressed out alot as CEO of WR&H..you'd think he'd be slightly slender..

I thinkg that both James and David looked a bit chubby...maybe they have been munchin too much

yeah, he was like a sack of spuds, the fat ba,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Yes he did put on some weight. But who'sjudging? And I eat under pressure, so maybe vampires drink more under pressure? 😛

He did have a little poy belly in season five but he was still salty goodness 😀

He seemed to really get back into shape by the time bones came along. I remember reading an interview of his where he said the makers of Buffy and Angel asked him to not work out too much because they wanted to maintain Angel's vamp physique (which shouldn't change). Maybe that's why he put on a little weight, I mean he is big man I'd say if he worked out heavily he would be huge.

Something that might have contributed to his weight gain, especially in the later years of his series, was that he didn't actually have as many action scenes as he did in the earlier years. Look closely, and it's not that hard to separate David from his stunt double, especially in the more spectacular stuff. Obviously, as the show progressed, they wanted more and more spectacular shows, and David, being the star, was just too valuable to risk getting injured when someone else could take the risk for him. With more talking and less kicking, plus all of the food and drinks that were almost certainly available, it's understandable.

DB had major knee problems during Season 5 and had surgery on it about mid-way through the season. I assume he wasn't super mobile or as agile as he once had been before surgery, hence, the gaining of the weight. In fact, the episode they taped after he came back from knee surgery, he sat for a good portion of the filming. I can't remember off the top of my head which epi it was, but gimme a day- I'll let you know. But chubby or not- the man has always looked good.

You took the words right out of my mouth, sweetie. I came here to say exactly that.

Obviously, he couldn't work out with his knee injury, and the post-surgery recovery would have kept him off his feet for at least 2-3 weeks.

He´s fluffy chubby on S5 xD

An the knee problem... 3 weeks without a gym and you get chubby? I think he was just older and not doing too much exercise.

But if it was a major injury, he wouldn't have been working out for weeks before the surgery, as knee pain is just the most horrible thing ever. Plus, the recovery time, plus physio, it might have ran over to 4 or 5 months.

Really? O.O Ok, so I´m so wrong... 4 month you can do chubby...

I didn´t know about the injury before coming to BB, and I didn´t watch the show on TV... The show stopped for a while cause of this?

No, I think the injury happened sometime during Angel season 4, and David's stunt double took over most of the work. The surgery, if I'm right, took place during the break between Angel season 4 and 5, which is why Angel's sitting down a lot during the first quarter of seaosn 5.

I'm an expert on recurrent knee injuries. Last time I hurt my knee, I couldn't even get out of the bathtub on my own without assistance. Including the initial injury, surgery and recovery (if needed), and rehab, it takes several months to get back to where you were before. For a lot of that time, you are inactive or less active than before. Putting on weight can happen, especially if you're in pain and reach for the comfort food.

In any case, the immortal vampires are played by human actors who do age and change as the series progresses. People get skinnier or fatter. They get wrinkles or jowls. Their hair changes a bit. They get pregnant. They get sick. They are accidentally injured. These things happen. It does take away from the whole immortality thing a bit, yeah, but whatever. I just acknowledge that these are actors, not vampires, and try to suspend my disbelief.

Agree about the knee surgery and recovery. I had two knee operations and its never fun.
I don´t know... I think it was part of the character, or it was made part of it.

See, when you are an actor, your work is to be like your boss wants. You musn´t eat comfort food, for exemple. You can´t just bleach your hair etc.

And makes sense Angel S5 be less skinny... the problematic of half the season is about them just doing paper work.

When you have a major injury (wasn't it his ACL or something) that can take you out for 4-6 months, it's kind of hard to keep up your exercise regimine. I'm not suprised he beefed up a little bit. In fact, I kinda like him better beefy. He is a hottie either way.

Simply put, it's calories in vs calories out. If you can't exercise, your output drops. Even if you don't reach for the comfort food, you are bound to put on a few pounds.

David Bowie, I love you. You creepy old man you.
