Did Spike Hate Buffy?

Honestly? I don't think Spike ever hated her. I think he was always obsessed with her, and then his obsession turned to love in the later seasons.

In rewatching this season I'd have to agree. I think from the very start he was intrigued by her. Honestly, why didn't he try harder to kill her? He bragged about how he was going to but he also ran away like a coward more than once. Plus, while he was in the wheelchair useless, Angelus was obsessed with her. Maybe he got his first taste of obsession then. I think it seemed like he hated her much more later in the series, maybe partly because unconciousley he was obsessed from the begining....and then of course the love for her finally overcame the hatred.

Like Spike said...it used to be simple. Vampire, Slayer. They fight, kill each other whatever. I don't know if he hated Buffy or Buffy the slayer, he certainly wanted to kill her cause he was the hunter and she was a threat to him. Maybe he hated her a bit more once she put him on a wheelchair. I don't think there is any obsession or strange feeling here. It was never intended to be that way. It's just Spike ,a vampire who killed two slayers before her and why not kill another? On the other hand Angelus had a different "connection" with the slayer.

I don't think he hated her until the scene when Spike finds Drusilla cheating(this is a flashback scene, I think from Fool For Love) and she tells him he's obssessed with Buffy (I think that was after the events on Lover's walk, wasn't it?).

I know that scene was added later in, so in the "original" season 4, he might not have hated her, but by adding that flashback scene, I think that shows reason enough to hate her(but Marsters might not have known to play Spike that way). He lost Dru because of her, AND he has a hidden love for her, making him obsessed with her in a way he doesn't get yet.

So while it might never have been true hate, there had been frustration since season 3/4-ish.

And let's not forget, her kicking his behind in season 2 probably pissed him off too. I think that after a while, the hunt partly became tiresome and annoying for him.
