Did the Mayor always have plans for Faith. (spoilers)

I don't know to hide spoilers and so be warned. SPOILERS FOR SEASON 3

In Homecoming the Mayor asks if any other 'colorful characters have come to town' and the deputy says he'll check it out. Evil music starts and the Mayor says ' You have all my Faith.' With a sinister look on his face. Later, at the docks, he sends Mr Trick to kill off Buffy. He's obviously been watching them and waiting for his moment.

So here's the question. All this time the mayor was fearing two slayers because they have more chance of killing him. But he says somewhere in the season 'with any hope they'll kill each other'. With his 'all my Faith' line do you think he hinting that he'd checked up on Faiths history and seen her as a weak link that he could manipulate for his own gain. Did he send Mr Trick to kill Buffy so that he could come in and bring Faith to the dark side. Or try to plan to turn them against each other. Once Faith's working for him and there are no other slayers, Faith would have to die before another Slayer is called. But if she works for him and he keeps her alive and safe, no slayers will pop up to kill her.

Or is it unconnected?
 
Well any time a slayer dies another one rises, so if Buffy died there still would be another slayer even if Faith was still alive. The "You have all my Faith" line was probably just foreshadowing by the writers, who already knew how the story would turn out. You do bring up a good perspective that he may have been keeping an eye on her though and realized she was becoming unstable!
 
I didn't think there was a new slayer when Buffy died again. The slayer line was passed on to Faith I think. And the Mayor was really really old. He might have known this.

Wilkins actually says that another slayer will rise should Buffy die in the episode Enemies, when instructing Angel, pretending to be Angelus, to kill her slowly to avoid another rising so quickly. We were actually discussing this in another thread.
 
Interesting thought! However i don't think he planned it in advance! At the end of Consequences ( one of my favourite ever episodes) she knocks on his door and says, 'you sent your boy to kill me' and he says yes he did! When she says that he must have a job opening he looks quite surprised but delighted as he invites her in!

I love this arc!!
