Did you like Connor?

I saw a remark on a Buffy forum where the poster noted that, for all of the youth appeal of Buffy and Angel, two main characters that seem to get an awful lot of flack from the fans are Dawn and Connor, the two actual teenage characters (in Angel and the later seasons of Buffy). I see the irony.

I found the Holtz-Connor-Angel arc of the middle seasons of the show just outright depressing. I am ever hesitant to say that I "hate" a character, I don't hate Connor but I wish he could have had a more magnetic personality, whether played by Vincent Kartheiser or whoever.

i actually kinda liked connor, i like dawn too, i thought the holtz-connor-angel storyline was very entertaining (don't hurt me)

IF anyone wants to hurt you, they'll have to come through me...i like Connor and Dawn too.......:)
Well, there were times where I liked Connor, and times where he annoyed me, like his whining bout Cordy being all his. I enjoyed it when Angel kicked his ass in Awakening.

Connor was ok. Just a confused teenage boy. I never really liked him to begin with, but i think now watching it a few times through, that I actually understand why he is the way he is... and I kinda like him now.

I liked Connor, But he did have some annoying moments. But I really liked the connor we saw at the end of season 5, he was like a much better version of the character!

so what he grew up in a hell dimension..that's terrible and everything..but then I expected him to annoyed and pissed off but at the same time mature about the whole situation..not only that huge hypocrite..regardless of how your life was it is never a reason to take it out on people..and hey talkingforgiveness everyone else on both shows were forced to forgive..why couldn't he until s5 when he KNEW it wasnt angel's fault?

Well its like this..there are plenty of people that are dealt harsh cards in life, molested, abused, homeless, and some of these people stop making excuses and feeling sorry for themeselves and want to stop the cycle..so they work hard, and get a good job, get a degree, whatever. I understand his life was difficult.

but to me it is never justified to treat someone poorly especially someone you didn't know..sure holtz screwed up him..but at that point connor was what 17 an adult? And he needed to grow up and accept that not everything is black and white..yes the world is harsh, but that is something we all have to deal with.

Another thing that bothered me he was not trying to do anything to help out the situation he could have said , "look angel I hate you..and I want you dead, but I do need help getting past this and understanding.." but he didn't..he is just an immature little boy..and I don't possibly understand why the writers chose a rather weak character for that storyline.

For one thing, we can't just say "he grew up in a hell dimension - so what we all have problem" We have no idea what it would be like to grow up in a hell dimension! He had also been told Angel was evil since he was a child, it's like a religious belief, if your parents bring you up a certain way you will most likely turn out that way! - It's not just something you get over!

And thats wonderful for those people, but as you said some people can move on but not everyone, Connor just ended in that group. You can't say if some people got over it then everyone should!

Nope he was a 17 child, not an adult. That's the whole point of Connor he was forced to grow up fast in a hell dimension but he was still a child. A hormonally imbalanced teenager, Now considering most teenagers at this age argue with their parents, try having a parent you were brought up to hate.

Cause they deal in metaphors and teenagers fight with their parents, this was their way of showing it!!

ooh, i love your new banner! plus, its dark willow, so yay! ive never even been on after-darkness.
I liked him in season 3, ya know, when he was a baby. Didn't talk, didn't move, didn't have the long annoying hair that pissed me off so bad I threw a lamp across the room.

yeah, he was an adorable baby. if they had just kept him like that, i probly would've liked him better.

connor is so wrong

hate connor he is so annoying and a right twat to his dad angel should just kill him lol. im watching season 4 seen it loads but im finding it not good at the mo. well wes is nice lol

i hate connor so much his just so annoying i wish he was nice to angel would make him alot better. i think it would have been better if angel and darl had a girl would be more better to watch and funny cos you have first dates and makeup and all girly things which angel would not be able to understand that would have been funny.:lmao:

hmm, i've avoided this thread for so many reason, but mainly 'casue i don't wanna bore you, lol
ok, so Connor *sigh* yes, i like Connor...so very much.
i like the fact that Connor never had a good realtionship with his Faither, because why should he? he was raised in a hell dimension by a man who hated Angel so much that he allowed himself to be transported through time just so that he could get another shot a destroying him. Holtz fillled Connor's head with so much about what Angel was like when he was evil, it was hard for him to grasp the fact that Angel wasn't that same vampire. he was a teenager made to believe that anything that wasn't human was evil. when you're a teenager, you really only see black and white...there aren't many gray areas.
Angel and Darla couldn't have had a girl, because then Jasmine wouldn't have been born because she used Connor as her father.
i liked Connor in S5, in fact 'Origins' is my fave Angel episode. it was very strange watching Connor as this well adjusted teenger, who goes to college and thinks vampires are cool. this is why he's now able to accept Angel as his father, becasue he is a healthy, stable well adjusted kid...which would have been exactly how he would have turned out had he been allowed to grow up with Angel.

i know it would be different because angel would be doing the raising, but dawn kind of served that purpose on buffy. people who followed both might not be interested in watching two teenage girls who were both dealing with make-up and dating. especially since some people didnt even like dawn.

I was about to comment, but I decided to read through the entire topic instead. I say "read through", what that means is I read two posts, skimmed the rest.. Until I came to my posts, obviously I read them.

It is quite odd when you read your own posts from some time ago and you find them annoying.

There is an inordinate amount of whining in this thread which, considering the topic, is quite hilarious.

Poorly handled character who was stale before season 4 started.

Elucidate, sir. How was his character "poorly handled"?
