LoL. I always had a theory about Buffy and Cordelia... why was she always so nice to Buffy even though she was a "freak".

Even if Giles hadn't seen Xander come into the library would he not have heard him? The door to the library would have made some noise when it was opened. But then again it would depend on where Giles was in the library.

Haven't we seen someone sneak into the library before, unheard, unseen?
 
Vampire Xander and Vampire Willow snuck in during The Wish. But they were heard, and they were vampires, so he had to have heard Xander come in.
