So I am starting WeightWatchers again on Monday. I've done it before approx 12 years ago and I lost 5 stone. I intend to lose 6 stone(38kilos) this time, so I have a long road ahead but I need to do this. So, I was wondering....

Have you been on a diet before?

Was it a recognised diet like Weight Watchers or Slimming World?

How was the diet for you?

Was it successfull?

Any advice for me?

Don't get me started on diets!! LMao, but welldone to you .:)
I haven't tried any of the two mentioned but I am a Personal Trainer so my advice would be - slow and steady wins the race.
Loosing weight is generally about life changes, in baby steps.
Don't make too radical a changes too quickly because chances are it will be hard to keep it up. Use reason above all 😀 and congratulate yourself when you do well (exercise and what not) but don't berate yourself if you mess up every now and then. No one eats healthy all the time, just focus on loving yourself and doing better tomorrow.

oh and try to find some kind of exercise routine that you enjoy, maybe with a friend. it's easier if you have someone pushing you as well as you can push them.
hope this was any help 😀

Quality advice right here ;)
by the way i realized my advice was very general but weight loss or gain is so very individual it's hard to say anything more specific. But if you do have any specific questions or want tips or anything, just let me know 😀

Personally I don't believe in diets. When you hear the word diet, you automatically think of the things you "can't" have, and that makes you feel limited and horrible about what you're allowed to eat and what you're not. I've dieted many times before, and there's a commercial out there that starts out with "DIETS DON'T WORK", which I believe to be VERY true.
However, if you just make the choice not to "go on a diet" but to make better and healthier choices with the foods you do eat, I think you can be VERY successful at losing weight. For instance, last fall I made the choice to cut out salt and sodas and just drink more water and I lost 10 pounds pretty quickly just from making those choices. The soda thing is an issue for me, though, because I really love Coke and Dr. Pepper, but this is what I do: I eat what I want, but I try to limit my intake of carbs and junk food. If I go out to eat, I will have a soda with my meal, but I try really hard to make sure that meal is something like baked fish and steamed veggies to balance out the sugar in the soda. See what I mean?
However, Nixy, I know a lot of people who have been successful on Weight Watchers; my mom was one of them. 🙂 So good luck and if the program works for you I will be SO happy for you. 😀

I agree, "diets" in the general concept don't work. But making permanent changes do. I would say eat everything but know your limits. Find your balance :D Good advice!
Skip the Seroquel 😛

LOL very good point, thats just guna make it so much harder.
Diets? You can say I'm on them my whole life, but I'm not that strong to follow the rules. I tried the UN diet. I saw pictures of people on the net who said they lost 30 kilos, but in 90 I've losted only 15. I would probably lost more if I followed the rules. Sometimes I ate some more chips and I didn't worked out that much, I was tired becuase of the school all the time. But I admire you, I hope you'll lost it 🙂

I really can't stick to diets, i always do the atkins diet to lose weight. 😛

Have you been on a diet before?
Yes, but not for years. Now, I just try and eat heathfully and exercise.

Was it a recognised diet like Weight Watchers or Slimming World?

No, I just tried to cut calories and eat more vegetables.

Well, actually...I remember now: once I tried the Atkins and it was AWFUL. I felt terrible, smelled weird, had awful heartburn, and my skin totally broke out.

How was the diet for you?
Difficult.

Was it successfull?
No. I've decided that long-term changes are really the only way to go. Lately, I've been trying to cut out all sugar and white flour completely. It's hard, but I think it's causing me to be way more aware of what I eat, which is a good thing.

Any advice for me?
Keep trying. If you mess up, then just try again. Don't be discouraged! Good habits are hard to form and even harder to keep.

Try to cook all meals at home. It's hard to diet if you eat out often. Also, make sure you eat every four hours. Healthy snacks, like nuts and fruit or something like yogurt. That way, you'll never get too hungry and binge. I always keep trail mix in my locker.

Good luck!

Well I lost 20 pounds in my own diet. For breakfest I had special K cereal, for lunch I had a whole wheat bagel with slim cheese and turkey and then for supper I normally had salad. It sounds bad now but I had that every single day! I was young and I was willing to take any risks to lose my weight. I also walked for half an hour a day and did 20 crunchs and squats in the morning and at night. Crazy and it tuckered me right out.
I would suggest that you stick with weightwatchers and stay on track with it. If you fall off the wagon, dont fret and just jump back on. I did tons of diets before I the first time I slipped I always gave up and that was my problem. Good Luck Nixy!

What you need to do, is what the Americans did at the end of World War 2. When they had to try and get the survivors of the concentration camps to put on weight.
Brainwash them,
the notion was to get them to accept eating more than what they had been eating.
You need to do the opposite, by convincing your brain you only need to accept a smaller portion of food and that it is sufficient for you to survive effectively.
One of the failing things about many diets is they get you to eat to little, then, should you get to the required weight, you will need to start eating more. That is when you get on the weight gain, weight loss merry-go-round.

Have you been on a diet before?

Yes. My wife and I went on one together about 20 years ago.

Was it a recognised diet like Weight Watchers or Slimming World?

It was a syatem called "Metabolic Weight Loss."

How was the diet for you?

Very inconvenient. We both had very busy lives at that time, and a lot of our eating was away from home. With Metabolic, you had to sit down at a specific time and eat the meal the way it was set up. That meant a salad, main course, side course and an occasional dessert. We had to eat their meals prepared to their specific instructions, and even at specified times. Whatever we were doing, at mealtime, we had to stop, prepare our food, and eat.

Was it successful?

We both lost weight down to Metabolic's arbitrary magic number, so I suppose that you could call it successful on the short term. Our life schedule, however, didn't change. They couldn't, given our chosen careers. So it basically came down to a choice between keeping our weight down of paying our bills. I think you all know what we chose.

Any advice for me?

If you're overweight and want to lose, the only way that you can effectively do it is to permanently change your lifestyle. That means probably eating more at regular meals than you might be accustomed to, but NO in between meal snacks, no rewarding yourself for a job well done by going out for a 16 oz steak, fries, and cheesecake for dessert, then a large tub of popcorn with extra butter at the movies. You eat grapes instead of Raspberry Zingers, an apple instead of a Hershey Bar, and drink water instead of Dr Pepper, Coke, or whatever your favorite soft drink is. You have to get out of the house and walk instead of sitting in front of the TV watching "Burn Notice." And you've got to do that for the rest of your life. Plan on that, and you can lose weight and keep it off.

(And you'll only occasionally wake up in the middle of the night, soaked in sweat, from a dream about a large chocolate milkshake with whipped cream and a huge cherry on top)

I've heard peanut butter sandwiches are the way to go. Pb is alot of calories but one sandwich will quell the hunger for a good few hours. I assume theres loads of good tips on the internet.

Your nuts. LMao. The bread has loads of carbs, (you tend to stay away from white bread when on a diet) aha

Peanut butter sandwiches are the bomb :)
you can diet and still eat white bread. you can diet and still eat ice cream.

It's called, not dieting, but making better choices. Taking away those things will only make you crave them more, and cause a binge. You have to learn how to allow yourself those pleasures without over doing it. Personally, i allow desserts here and there... i allow take out once a week for dinner. Otherwise, i try to cook my own, fresh meals, get in plenty of fruits and veggies (fruit is a great means of natural sugar if you want something sweet, and also a great source of fiber) and drink lots of water to keep hydrated and my metabolism going. I cut out empty calories from soda, but i still have my snack foods once in a while, chips and all that.

If i didn't allow those things, i'd crave them and binge. Been there, done that, yo-yo dieting sucks.

Ive stayed the same weight for 3+ years without sacrificing much. I mean, you can say every body is different and what not but im just saying... don't deny things too much because it'll bite you in the ass later.

Eat when your actually hungry not just bored. Also some hunger is because your dehydrated (or so i've heard) drink a glass of water, wait and see if you actually feel like eating.

My mum's struggled with her weights for years ( having 6 kids kinda ruins your metabolism and figure 😉 ) but since september she's cut out carbohydrates nearly completely. She only eats a small amount and she's lost more than 3 stone. But still eats loads of other food, she's defiantly not going hungry!.

My whole life since my sweet 16 has practically been a diet.

My newest approach: Do some healthier TV snacking. I have this thing where I sort of need to eat something when I watch TV. Well, now I try to eat carrots instead of stuff with loads of calories, so hopefully that'll do something.

Other than that, I'm kinda out of easy options. I've heard a lot of people say watch what you're drinking, but I can't cut anything there, all I drink is water and unsweetened tea. Have been drinking that for years.

My biggest problem is that I hate to cook, so I go and get take out food A LOT. There's periods where I do it everyday. Same for the TV snacking. Actually, considering what I eat every day, it's really a miracle I don't weigh twice as much of what I weigh now.

But what's really bothering me is all that weight I put on ever since I started university. When I came here, I was about 56 kilo's...now, slightly less than 2 years later, I'm at 65 kilo's! I see where it comes from, and I know a lot of people first gain weight when they start uni, but it doesn't really make that any better.

How tall are you?
My biggest peice of advice about dieting would be to pick a sensible diet (not something rubbish like Atkins) and stick to it for at least 12 weeks. One of the main reasons people fail at diets is because they don't see results after a week or two and change to some other wacky diet. You want to make permanant changes to health and body image, so you have to be prepared to make permanant changes to what you eat. Therefore I would also advise you to make changes that you would be prepared to stick with for the rest of your life and therfore rubbish like cutting out all carbs or not eating any fat is a bad idea.
