Sooo, I've started the weight watchers pro points plan this year. I've lost in the past 5 stone with weight watchers before so I know I can do it again but it is hard work. It got me thinking as to how many of you are currently on a diet and how many have lost weight on diets in the past. I want your success stories 😀

I recently had to alter my diet and I've lost like 7 pounds the past two weeks and all I have done do far is stop drinking soda and eating sugar.

It is complete hard work to stay on track, even with just that though.

Oh and I have a friend that lost about 150 pounds on her diet and she's so happy now. She said it was really hard but ended up being totally worth it.

lol funny, I'm doing the exact same thing right now, with the sugar
wickedtiger86 that is awesome...and kinda what I am hoping to do...it's nice to hear of people that have been successful 🙂

And, 7lbs in 2 weeks is amazingly good, well done 😀

I've never really been on a structured diet before, I've cut things out and eaten less etc but never tried a 'real' diet. But I've decided to try this 1 million kilo challange thing - http://www.1millionkilochallenge.com.au/home
Apparently it is going to give me free meal plans and exercises to do over 10 weeks. I already know that I am not going to follow it to a T as I wont be able to afford some of the food and there is no way I can give up alcohol for that long. But I am hoping to lose a few kilos and be generally healthier overall. I think it will give me an idea of what I need to do to lose weight and perhaps give me better eating habits.

You can do it!
Well it's nor a reall diet but I used to buy me candys for the weekend. Very much candy. So much sugar. Then I realized that I will become to big if I don't stop because I noticed that all the sports I do is not enough to stay at the same weight level. I was always a kind of proud of my body and that was reason enouht for me to stop with this. That was before an half of a year. I never bought these candys again since there.

Well, you know this already, Nix, but I'm doing WeightWatchers right now as well. After my first kid, I lost over 25 lbs. on the program. I wasn't as big when I got pregnant the second time, so I don't have as much to lost this time around. I have already lost about 15 lbs. and would like to lose about 10 more to get rid of my post-baby flab. I'm coupleing the program with walking my dog/kids and Wii Fit Plus. 🙂

Thanks. You see, you have a very big willpower too!
Ripper666 yes candy is my weakness too. Anything sweet is hard to resist.

PassionBecoming Yer once you have done it you know its doable but it's still hard work. I have the WiiFit too and use that to track my weight.

mhm, yes. An evil temptation.
Great topic! It's always nice to be able to discuss these things with others...
I'm always struggling with my relationship with food. When I was a teenager I had a bad eating disorder and the journey toward bringing myself up to a healthy weight was long and difficult. As a result, I have weeks and months where I start to feel myself slipping again even though that was a decade ago, and I have to be really careful not to go back there.

But whether you're looking to gain, lose, or stay the same, it can be a real struggle. I've learned that I'm happiest with things and less likely to start dropping again is when I keep my calories to a certain number,(making sure that number is not too low!!), ensuring that they are coming primarily from lean protein and vegetables.
As others have said, sugar is the worst! But everything in moderation: if you restrict yourself you might be tempted to go overboard at a later point. Also I think it's important to remember with diets that every day is a new day; if you go overboard at one point it doesn't mean you can't make up for it later in a healthy, balanced way.

My brother is always trying to gain weight but he has a fast metabolism so fails on a regular basis bless him.

I am a huge fan of biggest loser and my husband has a twitter and blog (@killfatty) that chronicles our adventures in weight loss. We've sort of taken a team approach at losing weight since we had put it on together after we got married. He's sort of on his own right now while I am pregnant, but he is working really hard not to put on any sympathy weight like he did with my last pregnancy (I was sick and couldn't eat and lost about 10 with my first and so far I'm down 20 lb with this pregnancy... The first pregnancy he ate the food when I couldn't).

I don't diet anymore though, even when I'm not pregnant. I've finally accepted that I just have to eat clean and exercise as a part of a healthy life style. We have "cheat" meals and bad days but getting healthy and staying healthy is a process that I'm not going to give up on! Congrats to everyone who is working so hard! Stay motivated! I lost thirty pounds about three years ago. I simply cut my calories in half and doubled my exercise. I've kept it off by being absolutely obsessive about my calorie intake. I count every single calorie with a program called "Diet Power." Every single calorie, every single day. And exercise calories too - I work out pretty much every day.

The thing for me was to develop some motivational sayings that I could trot out when I was feeling tempted. "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels." "C'mon, you can do this." "You won't regret passing up that cake."

Also, to enjoy the victories and allow myself to feel proud of the triumphs. Skipping that cookie? Yay me!!!

And, when the weight started dropping, that was its own motivation. The more that came off the easier it seemed.

Until I hit a wall - I'd like to lose a few more but I've been unable to. I'm pretty happy with my weight, though, so that's okay.

I used to have a eating disorder, so I'm always a little hesitant when I hear the word "diet", just 'cause its associated with so much bad things for me. I think it can work for some though, if it's truly built on a healthy approach and you feel good when you're doing it - like not being hungry, get the recommended calorie intake and keep a level head when it comes to your weight and don't get obsessed about it. The focus should be feeling better about yourself, not worse. Good luck!

I'm sorry for being a killjoy, I hope you don't take this as an attack, 'cause I really don't mean it that way or to you personally. I know you didn't mean it that way. I just get a little iffy when I think about that there's a lot of young people here and what a thread like this can start. So I just wanted to say that "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" is a known pro-ana expression, and I think it's a horrible saying. There's LOADS of things that tastes as good as skinny feels! Feeling skinny is a fart in space when it comes to feeling good, being confident, having great friends in your life and so on. Focusing on being skinny can lead one down a horrible spiral of bad stuff and really isn't worth it. Sometimes the best option IS a pizza. 😀

I seen to have a good metabolism, because I pig out like crazy, and still stay slim. 😛 But it'll probably catch up to me someday when I'm older.

I feel bad for people on diets, I don't know how they could sacrifice such yummy unhealthy foods. 🙁

I'm hesitant to use the word diet as such but I have cut out a lot of rubbish over eating such as chocolate and take aways. However I did join slimming world for motivation. I don't follow the diet strictly but I go for the motivation of getting weighed every week. I've list a stone and a half in 3 months Sso I'm chuffed. Im not a fat person just a bit wobbly in need of toning.

@This Year's Girl, interesting points! Glad to hear I'm not alone on here 🙂
I do know what you mean about pro-ana phrases, and I think it can be a tricky subject since it might be hard to understand how people like us might consider them to be destructive phrases when they can sometimes be motivational tools! But I agree that we have to be really careful what we say; it's a slippery slope! Maybe we should change the phrase to:"nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels!" 🙂

That's a really good point. I think this really explains in a simple way in what I was trying to get across, so thank you for saying it! Phrases like that can be great if they are used just for motivation, but in other cases they can lead to something horrible. And the line isn't always that clear, so sometimes it's hard to know when you've crossed it. And yeah, changing it to "nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels" have a much better ring in my ears! 🙂

I choose not to use the word 'diet'. Instead, when I need to lose weight, I make lifestyle changes that include cutting out junk food and soda, and increasing my exercise. 🙂 Whenever I go on a "diet" I feel like I'm depriving myself of things I love, so I instead just opt to find healther alternatives... For instance, if I want cake, I'll have some sponge cake with fresh fruit and Cool Whip Lite on top, or if I'm REALLY craving a soda, I'll fix myself some yummy herbal tea, or drink flavored water.
Good luck, Nix!! I know you can do it, babe! 😀

I'm not on a diet or anything, and this ain't for weight loss either, more for health, but I've recently (a week ago) to eat sugar. Well, mostly. Apparently, sugar is in pretty much any processed food, and that's just too much of a hastle for me to control that all. But I don't eat any sweet candy anymore, and anything that's just obviously packed with sugar, like sweet breakfast cereals. And of course sodas are off-limit as well. Maybe I'll lose a pound or 2 like this, would be a nice plus. But the reason why I started doing this was more related to general well-being, and sugar is really poison for humans, no matter how amazing it tastes.

It's been really hard, especially
during PMS
. Hopefully it'll get easier.

Yeah, it's so hard to cut out sugar! I used to be a Dr. Pepper fiend. Now I just look at it wistfully . . . lol
