Differences Between Angelus - BtvS S2 an AtS S4

So I was discussing Angelus and ho relates to Angel's personality, or how they are connected more exactly, and he made this little observation.

Perhaps most interestingly, the Angelus of BtvS Season Two idn't act exactly like the Angelus of AtS Season Four. Partly it was probably because circumstances were very different, but there seem to be basic differences. In Buffy, Angelus took over a number of henchvamps, sought to end the world, seemed quite social in the demonic community, tried to organize an apocalypse and so forth. In Angel, Angelus dusted the vamp that tried to chat him up, lurked in the shadows more, attacked obnoxious demons more than humans, and seemed as interested in working his way up the local foodchain and identifying/taking down the Big Bad as inflicting personal torment on his former close colleagues.

I'd attribute it to the fact that Angelus is an inversion of certain qualities of Angel, and Angel had changed significantly in the past seven years; from mostly isolated, romantic loner to father and head of a small evil-fighting team.

Would you agree or disagree? Is there significant differences between these two appearances of Angelus?

I think a lot of it was due to circumstance. I agree that whoever Angel is at the time will invariably affect who Angelus is.

I think the Angelus in Season 2 of Btvs was more in control. I wouldn't say he was more social in the demonic community, Spike and Dru were simply there and also any chance to get a rise out of Spike. Which leads me to my next point. Angelus will hurt anyone who will respond to it the most and also anyone who made him feel like a human being.

Angel in Season 4 of Ats was relatively social (no less than in Btvs) but Angelus by nature isn't a social character, like Angel. Angel(us) being the introvert that he is mainly seeks out meaningful interaction rather than a lot of interaction. Even his interaction in the demon bar was more about fuelling his own narcissism than it was about hanging out with the boys.

In Season 2 Angelus was the big bad, but in season 4 someone else was the big bad and that was precisely what he didn't want. As he said in Passion, he's a knowledge seeker, because knowledge is power. If he can find out as much as possible about the new BB then he can possibly hope to defeat it then become the big bad. Angelus doesn't mind an apocalypse, but only if he's the one causing it.

I agree, there are differences in Angelus from BtvS season 2 and AtS season 4. I agree with Kana, I think the main difference is that in BtsS2 Angelus was "the big bad" so he was able to fully focus on causing as much damage as possible and tormenting Buffy. In AtS Angelus knew that he was brought back to give information of how to destroy a certain demon that he perviously knew. Angelus didn't like this guy to begin with and then when the master started talking to him it threw Angelus off. Angelus wasn't the one calling the shots. I think that the circumstances are what made those 2 times with Angelus so different.
