Dirty Dancing Remake

I guess I just don't get all the remakes of 80's films... karate kid, footloose, now this.... seems to be a trend, but I'm just not really understanding the motivation.

I suppose though, remakes are nothing new...it probably just stings a bit because these are the movies of my childhood and therefore iconic in my mind.

I do think though, that if they remake the breakfast club I'll see that as taking things too far. 🙂

WHY? Why would they do this to such an amazing film? I think I need to go watch it again to get this stupid idea out of my head

I'm watching Dirty Dancing right now; remake be damned!

Old Master 3.0 agrees: Nope, she's 17. She even says so in her narration at the beginning of the movie.

OK, I checked (yes, I am that insane, lets not dwell on it) and she doesn't actually mention her age at all. The only indication of her ages is that she is going to college in the Fall, which would suggest she was at 18. But there is nothing definitive.

Here's the narration:

That was the summer of 1963

When everybody called me ""Baby"" and it didn't occur to me to mind.

That was before President Kennedy was shot...before the Beatles came...when I couldn't wait to join the Peace Corps...and I thought I'd never find a guy as great as my dad.

That was the summer we went to Kellerman's.

From memory, this will be a cheap film to do a remake of. That said, even if a couple of million people watch it 'out of curiousity' the chances are it will make a good profit.
You've gotta think though, what was dirty dancing then isn't dirty dancing now. So for the film to be properly named, it will need to include quite a bit of soft porn.
Oh what the heck, throw in some same sex stuff, a bit of drug taking, a murder or two, and some witchcraft; that should boost the box office returns. Add a bit of religious controversy and hey, free advertising as well.

This is an absolutely horrible idea. Dirty Dancing is a classic... of course someone would come up with the idea to remake it to try and make some money off such a great film. Did you guys know they are remaking Footloose also? If you haven't seen the preview for that.... good for you. It's terrible, they are turning it into a Step Up kind of movie with all ghetto kids and stuff. Just as the OP said they will probably do the same thing here.

Seriously, Hollywood has run out of original ideas. The film industry is flooded with remakes, prequels, and sequels based off of older ideas. We desperately need some refreshing original ideas the get us out of this rut.
