I have a minor complaint to make against the Disapprove function offered with the recent upgrade to the boards.

I don't like it. It allows people to be cowardly. People can make insulting comments without taking any personal responsibility for them.

It leads to conflicts. Want an example? I got one of those nasty little, sneaky, anonymous, remarks. I didn't know who it was, of course, so I just gave a similar remark back with the sneaky-insult-link to all possible suspects. Childish? Yes, I admit it, and I apologize, but expect more of it. Not from me. I've seen the error of my ways, but there will be others. I'd bet money on it. It's a problem waiting to happen.

What's the disapprove function? I've never seen it before, or I haven't noticed.

It's when you click on the 'Reputations' icon to contribute to a members reputation. You have the choice of 'I approve' or 'I disapprove' and then you can add your comments regarding the post concerned.

N4H - In my CP I can see which user has commented towards my reputation...

Also, you could always turn your reputation off if you don't agree with it. Unfortunately there will always be people that abuse something like this but hopefully most people will be mature enough to just ignore any childish remarks. 😉

I will mention your concerns to the others though.🙂

I can't see who gave me reputations. Is it just a mod/admin thing?

Yeah I can't see them either. Also, unless I'm doing it wrong, I can't actually turn off my reputations. All I can do is turn off my ability to see them.

Thats strange as i've just tested it with a member based account and I was able to see who it was that gave the reputation.

It will only show you it the first time you log in since the reputation has been awarded, as soon as you click onto your User CP it appears under any private messages you may have.

There's the problem. Isn't that almost the same thing as hiding the name? I don't know about other people, but I don't scroll down to look, every time I open User CP.

If you're taking suggestions, I'd like the option to be able to either deny the option of negative comments, or failing that deny the ability to make reputation votes or comments entirely in my personal options.

I made the comment that ruffled people's feathers publicly. I think they should show me the courtesy of replying the same way. If I'm out of line, let it be a public thing, and I'll accept the consequences.

I'd like to take back my statement about it going away after you first log in. Cordelia did a test reputation for me the same day you posted the thread and its still there in my control panel.

I can see a reputation I have. It goes Thread, Date, Comment. If you don't see a comment, it might be because it's blank. But the one I can see says "Gives appreciative information." so the ones you can't see might be blank.

OK, now you guys got me goin.

I still can't find the name of the poster. Faith is saying it remains, right? In which column of Thread, Date, or Comment do I find the name. I don't see it.

I know. Can someone give me a negative comment. Tell me I'm blind, or something. I'll look for the name.

Yes. I can see it. I've always been able to see all the comments, I just can't seem to find the names of the posters.

You see my suggestion is, if you give people the capability to insult other people anonymously, you create the possibility of future problems once the wrong sort of people discover they have that option.

BTW Cordelia 😉 🙂 right back atcha. LOL

Isn't there a posted by column when you view them in usercp?

Not on mine there's not. I quadruple-checked.

You're talking about the section that's labeled " Latest Reputation Received", right?

Oh... You fixed it! Wow, that's so nice. Thanks for doing that. I'm sure that so many of us are pleased now.
