So, do I have this right? Alex was once a wheel man for robbery ring?! This is all falling into place. Some nice new/old wheels he's got there now. I thought this was a fairly mediocre ep until the state trooper guy revealed his true identity. Good stuff.

Isn't it about time for FOX to be cancelling this show already, now that it's getting good?
 
Alex may have been the wheel man for a gang but he was also a race car driver. In the pic on the mantle that was a race suit he had on. The most intriguing statement was made by his sister to the cop "his wife put him back together". Then when he got back behind the wheel of that gorgeous (huge emphasis on gorgeous) 72' Charger and was blowing past all the other racers that was a smirk of comfort and familiarity on his face.
I thought it was a nice touch having the end of this leg of the race at a Drive In. Waves of memories for me because the local Drive In was the place to be to see the parade of cars. Only thing missing in the scene were lawn chairs, coolers and clouds of smoke, lol.
 
I was pissed when they ended right as the film was about to show! Heh.

I hope ep 3 did a little better than the premiere. This show just didn't have enough appeal for people, as a concept. Almost all women I've heard express almost zero interest. And not enough guys showed up for the premiere. I'd like to at least see a complete 1st season.
 
That's kind of a problem with how do you promote this show isn't it? If it was just a car race show you would just emphasize the sexy, but that's not what it is. Nevertheless that's what people think it is, until they actually see it. So you've got teenage boys saying "just a cheap TV rip of Fast and Furious", and woman saying "just another car race show."

That car is a Charger is it? That's what I thought it was. Are we sure about the year? That was great when it took off.
 
Yeah, a Charger. The final race to the drive-in was beauteous. You can just feel the potential with this show now.

And it's got human interest, relationship stuff up the wazoo (stuff that seems more credible than how it's presented in 24, for example). The whole thing with Violet teaching her dad "how to lie" - then he turns around and is essentially conning her with the cell phone - that's good stuff.
 
True, and it brings up the point again concerning on how Minear likes to spin on stuff you've seen a thousand times before. Like the smart mouthed reality-wise daughter, and the prudish, out-of-it, back in the dark ages father - how many times have we seen that. But this time there's a genuine affection between the two, the dad isn't your cliched dummy, and the teen isn't outright obnoxious.

I was thinking about Wendy. You know how they're bringing up dark secrets from the character's past? We haven't actually seen Wendy's husband. Makes you think.

Oops, no, I'm reading it was a '72 Dodge Challenger more often than not now. The Dukes of Hazzard ride was a Charger. Kinda similar.
 
Yeah, I was looking at the model for the 70 charger from Fast and Furious. It's got the spoiler, but basically the lines look real similar at first glance. The pics of the 72 I saw looked a little too long or something. So it's a Challenger then? Are we sure of the year? All I know is that car is hot. When Alex takes off in it, Wow.
 
I didnt think Alex really was a getaway man. i just assumed the non-cop had made that up as well as him being a cop and such. To get Alex to react in some way. However if its true it seems likely that they all (by all I mean at least one person per car) have dark pasts.

Alex clearly had something bad going on before he met his wife.
Winston was in prison for something.
I have a strong suspicion that Wendy has killed her husband or something like that. (it makes sense to me. If she was just a beaten wife, why didnt she tell someone? She was worried about the police and such. Plus how she turned on Ivy like she did. Definitely something there.)

I'm pretty much with you on all those, and yeah, Ivy. She's the one who's starting to intrigue me. What's she all about? Is she better than she seems, or worse? I have a feeling it's going to be fun when we get to see what "drives" Ivy.
 
Well the way she got the gun from Wendy and the way she handled it suggests to me shes no stranger to them. She definitely has the bad girl thing going on. But then again if we're to believe her whole story about how she met the other girls... Im just not sure yet. That and I was sure she was gonna steal Wendy's car when she was in the shop. After her thing about the money split 2 ways is better than 3. But she didnt. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
 
Sorry guys but the Challenger isn't quite as excellent as that beautiful, BEAUTIFUL Mustang that the bounty hunter was driving. I near 'bouts creamed my pants when it showed up. It puts my Stang to shame, but oh well. I'd definitely marry that chick.

LOVED this episode, it was excellent. I was a little pissed at the end though, but it's a good cliffhanger, hah.
 
Does anyone think Black Betty should have been the music playing when Alex was re-united with the Challenger?
I think they need to put some more thought into the songs for the cars they want to single out.
Cars and music is what draws the fans in. Especially us, ahem, older fans who remember widetracking with a case of beer on the back roads with tunes on the radio or from the 8 track. That's right I said 8 track.
 
Did you watch again on CTV Friday TT? I did. This is what I love about Mutant Enemy people's stuff. You can rewatch it, and find new things you missed the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or whatever time. Like at the Drive-in. I'd noticed there were a lot of cars there, but it didn't really connect with me how many, or what that means. There's a lot of people in this race. We thought Alex was first, but he wasn't even close.
 
I was aware of the amount of racers in the first show when the auditorium emptied as Alex was walking in.
There is going to be some wild stories (like the elderly couple on the motorcycle) that will break the tedium of watching the main characters in this series week after week.
I think that the 'intensity' of this race is really going to come out in the next few episodes with not just the bank robbery (as per next weeks episode) but with an over the top accident.

Exactly, I really love that about this/them.

I started watching this show last night and have now seen all three episodes. I was really surprised how great it is, I guess I didn't know much about it and didn't know what to expect, but yeah, loving this so far.

And Melanie Lynskey, gotta love 🙂
 
This show is way too good to get cancelled. (Although so was Wonderfalls and The Inside...) I'm *really* hoping FOX hates enough of their pilots to give this show a second season...it will definitely help if ratings stay steady.

Remove Tim Minear and Nathan Fillion from this show and you guys would NOT be singing its praises.

This show is average. So far.

Some of the acting is very poor.

My first reaction is that's just so not true. I'm really getting into this show, but you do kind of have a point in that if I didn't know who those guys were I wouldn't be watching it. However once I am watching it, I'm loving it, because I'm loving it.

I used to be a Marti Noxon fan, but then came Point Pleasant, and now I'm not.

I used to hate Drew Z Greenberg's writing, but then came Dexter, and now I'm a fan.

I can't speak for anyone else, but me, I'm totally fickle.
