Discussion of 1:01 Ghost - Aired 2/13/09 (FOX)

Echo is introduced as one of the "Actives" in the Dollhouse. The Dollhouse's Topher Brink wipes her mind and reprograms her as a ruthlessly efficient kidnapping negotiator. Echo's new personality incorporates memories from another woman who was kidnapped and molested as a child, and it turns out the molester is one of the kidnappers with whom she must now negotiate. Her inside knowledge allows her to figure out that the molester's plan is to kill the other kidnappers and run away with both the money and the young girl. Instead, Echo turns the kidnappers against each other and rescues the girl. Meanwhile, FBI Agent Paul Ballard struggles with his assignment to uncover information on the Dollhouse, which has destroyed his marriage and is wrecking his career; his lead is small-time Russian gangster Lubov.

I started rewatching Dollhouse today and thought this was a good pilot. Not as great as other pilots I’ve seen, but it did a decent job of holding my attention. Not bad, considering I haven’t watched much tv in months.

Favourite line: “You can’t fight a ghost.”

Yeah I thought it was a good pilot too. The first 5 eps were a great foundation for the show. Everyone wanted Faith on a motorbike so we kinda got that straight off the bat!

The negotiator imprint was a good all round introduction on how they work. Having her have asthma and glasses, showing that it is a whole body takeover, not just the mind. Boyd trusting the instinct of his active early on was a nice touch too

Sierra coming to clean up the scene, even their clean up crew are imprinted! Victor is amazing and way underrated and I wish I had seen him in more whedon-like shows because he is an awesome actor. I love seeing all these parts in the beginning, and remembering that we didnt know how it was going to unfold. It was still exciting.
