Discussion of 1.16 "Two Pair" (FOX-US) - Airing 4/8/04

Okay... wow this is not what I was expecting from this episode... I assumed that the reason the day did not rewind after the girl asked for help was because Jack was in the room... but apparently it was because she had another person to save too! I like how they got Harrison involved in helping Tru save people... the show is taking on so many new directions! I feel so bad for Harrison though! Man... when they said a man called her parents and so she still committed suicide, my mom was on the phone with my grandparents and I accidently yelled out "B*stard!!!" (neither was impressed) ooh... I don't understand how Jack's not evil, but okay...
who knows maybe it wasn't even him that did it...

Anyway, I never thought of Jack as being an "angel" but wow... that last name of Harper... thatz a good point!

I can't wait for next week's episode... Tamyra Gray was on the first season of American Idol... she's really talented.

I don't think he is ACTUALLY death, at least no more than Tru is life. I think he is a guy that relives the same days as Tru. In his mind though, you shouldn't mess with fate. When someone dies, it was just their time, he sees Tru as messing with fate. In his first apperance, he told how he was a doctor (I belive) an tried to save a young boy who had been shot, he himself was shot, and died, then came back. He said he learned something about life and death. I think it may be that the kid died, and he relived the day, the second time he was shot, and died, but didn't stay dead. His innability to save the boy either time coupled with the fact that he died, but didn't stay dead, may have told him, when it is your time, it is your time, and that shouldn't be messed with... then again, I may be COMPLETELY wrong, and just did too many drugs in college.

Either way, it should be fun to find out.

Can someone...describe what happened as best you can?

The body of a girl asked for Tru's help (gunshot wound), but the day didn't rewind. She was freaking out when the body of a man shows up (suicide) and also asks for help. then the day rewinds.
Because there was a gap between the bodies, Tru had already done some research on the girl. She finds Harrison, who had let her down the day before, and tells him that he can make it up to her (for something he hasn't even done yet) by helping the girl.

The girl (don't remember her name) is a math TA at the college who has been experimenting with probability, ie gambling, with her tuition money, and needs five thousand dollars fast before the college calls her parents and tells them. So she enters a high stakes poker game to win it all back.

The man (Jeff) is a harrison-like wheeler-dealer who is deep in debt because he kept creating personalities to cosign his loans. He needs money to be in the black, so he enterws the same high-stakes poker game to win it.

Tru enters Harrison (with money she won based on Harrison's laments about the track the previous day) and has him win everything from the girl and then lose it to Jeff. They convince Jeff to leave the game, the girl leaves broke, and the problem is solved

Or not.

Davis says something about duality, how murder and suicide ballance each other out, which sends Tru to check on the two would-be corpses:

Jeff has gone back to the game, cleaned up, and almost gets mugged on the way out, an event Tru is able to prevent.

The girl tries to commit suicide, but Harrison gets to her before she jumps off the roof and convinces her to take his car to sell for the needed money.

Harrison, Tru, and Davis gather in Davis' office to celebrate over pizza, and Tru asks Davis about a woman whose picture she had seen at his apartment the previous day. He tells them she was his wife, and had a siezure while driving and died. He would have been in the car too, but Tru's mother had slashed his tires, saving his life. We also find out Davis is his middle name.
During this party, a body comes in, and its the girl. Harrison leaves in tears, thinking he is a complete failure. When the parents come to identify the body, they say a man called them and told them about how their daughter lost her tuition money gambling. They called her, and then she killed herself.

Later:
TRU:but who would do that?
cut to jack--TV for "it was him"

Iceman, Hope this helps.
