Discussion of 5.03 "Unleashed" - Airdate 10/15/03

This was a filler episode. I usually hate werewolf episodes, and this was no exception. Spike just disappeared into the background. The guy from Enterprise was good. I did like the ending, but not the music. And that promo looks great! Next week's will be better. I don't think Harmony's back until episode 6.

And a question... when Spike was all see-through, walking around and Fred was folowing him, and then at the end when she's tells him she'lll work real hard to fix it, he comes back in sharper. Was he just doing the see-through thing for attention, or did her words just make him happier and he became more solid. I was a little confused.

I got the impression that Spike was testing Fred a bit in this episode and that he may know something he doesn't want anyone else to know. His insistence on her being the one to help him is curious and I think it goes beyond her being "science girl". He was adamant that she not tell Angel or Wesley about what's happening to him. It may be that he just doesn't trust either of them but it seems to me there's more going on here than meets the eye.

was anyone else completely weirded out by that ending? i mean, it seemed like an ending from "full house" or something. i was hoping for something crazy to happen like cordelia bursting in at the last minute, but there was just the sappy hanging out.

Next week looks better, becuz, no offense Jacklyn...I love when episodes are Spike-ccentric! Thats half the reason I still watch "Angel"

Guest appearance by Dr. Phlox from Star Trek Enterprise
Dammit! I wanted to be the one to tell everyone that. Oh well. I;m just glad someone else noticed. At first I thought it was him, then I didn't, then I did again. I kept thinking 'oh maybe he'll be a reoccuring character!' then they pretty much killed him by having him get bit by the werewolf.

You never really notice the 'Side characters' unless you know them eh? I alos kept thinking. 'He should get more lines'.

OMG! That little girls voice singing is so freaking scary. I hate that! I was terrified when I heard the little girl on Buffys 'Hush' but that was when I was littler. Is that correct grammer? anyway, I think its going to be a great ep! Loved when Fred kicked ass.

It was an ok episode. I didnt' really like the way they strayed away from some of the previously set concepts on werewolves in the Buffyverse.

I didn't even realize Harmony wasn't in it. I guess that shows how big a fan I am of Harmony.

Next weeks episode does look very good. But I will admit Spike's character has seemed a bit off. To me it almost seems like James is portraying an exagerrated version of Spike. This is coming from a BIG Spike fan. I don't know, something just seems off.

It was a good ep, not horrible, but not great. Nothing that's exciting to me happened. I would've much happier if Seth Green could've returned for "Unleashed."

yea. oz could talk about being a warewolf and stuff, and the lil girl in "Hush" was ...

I'd like to add one more thing. During Act 4, as Spike was talking to Fred, one second you can see through him and the next, he's seemingly solid again. What's up with that?

Mariah! Sweet merciful crap!!! Please please please take the embedded Media Player out of your signature. It's really annoying, especially when you have MORE THAN ONE POST PER PAGE! It plays the song once for each post you make....and they're out of synch!!!

Itsa maka me crazy!

....pretty please? 🙂

It's gotta be said

This episode was, naturally, depressing and heartwrenching for me. Angel completely annoyed me to death, when he said, "I can help her. I know what she's going through." He's right, I'm not saying he can't help her, because he is in a similar situation. But HELLO!!! He knows someone who's gone through the werewolf thing...why doesn't he say, "Hey, I know this guy who got bitten--it through him for a loop, but maybe he can help you now. I'll look him up." Yeah, THAT makes sense!

If Cordy (the real Cordy) were there, she'd have thought (and undoubtedly said it, cuz she says what she thinks), "Hey, Oz went through this--and he got all freaked out and killed people--ok, one was a crazed jealous boyfriend and the other one was a skanky she-devil werewolf....but, maybe he could help Nina out!"

OK, her logic is shakey, but she'd be right!!

Imagine if Oz had come to L.A. during "Unleashed." He could've taken that girll werewolf to Tibet! And when they turn a corner in Istanbul... there Willow is and she's dyed her hair blue just for fun...

I don't think there should be an entire 'Angel' episode about werewolves. It's already been done on 'Buffy', so the ep wasn't all that interesting to me because I already know what's already been explained on 'Buffy'...

Didn't like this ep as much as the prior one, but I liked it for what it was. A throwback to the old, classic sci-fi. And I find filler eps refreshing now and then (especially looking back at the soap opera of last season). Didn't miss Harmony in the least, and I was hoping for some sort of reference to Oz. And what was with the new-and-improved werewolf effect? It looked like a hairy, flightless bat.

First things first, the action scene were Angel fought with the werewolves. Next times just leave them out, it's a waste of money, cause I only heared growling and saw a few white spots flashing across the black screen. Untill they can get someone to do proper lighting action sequences are useless.

The whole ep was okay, not great, okay. The guns sounded really fake, especially the one Fred used. I hated the fact that everyone was being so hostile toward Spike, and I can't understand why Fred cared more about a girl she doesn't know, then about a good guy she has known for two weeks. There was going to be another month for her, but maybe not for Spike. Then there's the whole Angel-deal where he was grumpy as usual. Then there was the ending wich was bloody aweful, feel good music, family reunited, the team celebrating, I mean c'mon, it's not like Angel-fans watch the Brady Bunch aswell.

And one more thing, where was HARMONY?

it was a different species (race) of werewolf.....so of course its gonna look different....all humans don't look the same....so why should all werewolves.....

(is there an echo in here......)

Hey everybody, don't get me wrong! I LOVE Spike, I just think we have to be realistic. The shows about Angel, we should expect more Angel stories than Spike. Plain and simple. Spike's stories are entertaining and I look forward to them when they are there, but I don;t expect to see a Spike-centric story in every episode. Then, the show would be called Spike.
