Spike (James Marsters) struggles to maintain his weak grip on reality as spectral forces threaten to send him to hell. He encounters ghostly apparitions, including an eighteenth-century serial-killer doctor. Meanwhile, Fred (Amy Acker) continues her quest to find a way of restoring Spike to his corporeal self.

This thread for UK discussion - NO SPOILERS for UK viewers.

Looking forward to this episode. Steven S. DeKnight is my favourite writer and the trailer looks fantastic. Expecting this to be one of the best episodes of this season.

It looks cool. So far this season I've been kind of undecided about Spike. He kinda annoyed me in 5.02 because it seems that they just stuck him to the cast to attract Buffy fans, but now he seems to be settling. I look forward to this episode.

^^^ I'm happy if it focuses on them. I'm really liking the chemistry between them, i've heard good stuff about this eppy from one of msn buddies, so majorly looking forward to it.

I gotta say really really loved that eppy. I think it's the best of thee season so far.

Thought the sawing of the guys fingers, excellent, i like gore and that was cool.

Liked the flickering lights. I thought that that bit was creepy, also a big fan of the creepiness.

Lol @ Angel saying to Spike "And your hair, what colour do they call that? Radioactive" Lmao.

Also when Fred said that Spike was going to hell, and Gunn and Wes were going, of course, yeah, where else would he be heading.

Also so funny when they had that girl tyring to feel the prescence and then Fred asks if she's alright and she goes bye byes. Lol very funny.

Also pretty Scary when Fred was in the shower and Spike wrote reaper then the glass exploded.

So overall i am thinking very hard to beat, but then there's always the finale...

One more thing, kinda sick of Spike being incorporeal. I was hoping by the end of it he'd be all corporeal agin, but i'm not too peeved about it.

So yep, great eppy. And wow i went on.

I'm definately going to be having nightmares tonight...lol...

It was a really good episode. dyingangel pretty much said everything that I found funny. The couch scene with Spike and Angel was really funny.

If anyone else is a Charmed fan, did you notice the guy that played the Reaper also played Death in a Charmed episode?

Fan-bloody-tastic! Steven DeKnight's episodes are always good but this was just...great! It was so entertaining watching Spike this episode. I loved it at the end when he realized he could fight back and started beating the crap out of Pavayne. The Angel / Spike talk was oddly touching and there was a lot of refrences to Spred (the scene near the end between Spike and Fred was beyond words). It was freaky when that woman was crying on the floor then stood up with no arms and told Spike to hold her. Can't wait for next weeks episode Life of the Party. Also loved the Fred shower scene.

My Favourite Lines Of The Episode

Gunn: Give him 20 minutes. He'll be popping up next to you in the bathroom, making cracks about your—
(looks at Wesley)
Am I the only one he does that to?

Fred: Should we hold hands?
Psychic: Only if you're lonely.

Spike: (as Spike stands, the portal behind him closes)
Quite a bit, mate. Reality bends to desire. That was it, right? That's why I could touch Fred, write your name in the glass. All I had to do was want it bad enough.
(Spike looks down at his naked body and clothing appears on him again)
(an angry Spike glares at Pavayne)
And guess what I want to do now, you prissy son of a bitch!

Fred: Just proves what I've been telling everybody.
Spike: That I'm a handsome devil who brightens the place up?

I think this is the best ep of Spike,.....er....Angel ever. It was so dark and moody and genuinely frightening. And so much Spike - literally and figuratively. Did they have a warning before the ep - in Canada, they did.

I didn't know we could talk about eps yet. Which ones have aired?

Wow! brilliant ep. Was Pavane possibly Jack the "Reaper" (pun intended)? I hope the season doesn't get too Spike-centric but James was excellent in this one.

Is it me or is Angel an awful lot darker than he used to be? He seems to be delighting in the violence - not to mention the last ep where he condemned Dr Phlox to get eaten. He always seems to be fighting the urge to be Angelus-style bad and sometimes it shows through - OK it's only against the evil guys so far but...? Don't forget the unleashing of Dru and Darla on W&H's finest a while ago...

What were the lines that ended with Spike saying something about Angel liking Barry Manilow? I was laughing a bit during that couch sequence so I missed some of it - d'oh!

Angel says that he liked Spike's poetry and Spike says, "You like Barry Manilow." phew

Thanks for that. It was funnier than what I imagined 🙂

BTW - in answer to your point about which eps are up for discussion - as I understand it, once they have been shown in the UK on Sky One (hence the thread title🙂) they are fair game for discussion, spoilers etc. I don't know if this is fair on Canada, Australia, France, Germany and so on in the rest of the world but I can live with it (smug Sky One subscriber 😉)

Thanks for the info. In Canada, we are a week behind unless you have digital cable and then you get the two US WB stations - hooray for digital cable!!!!

Yeah i noticed that as well. I was saying to my dad i know him where do i know him? Charmed.

Lol @ Angel & Spike on the couch as well. And also the holding hands if your lonely bit, very very funny.

I have to watch this eppy again.

Enjoyed this episode.

I also noticed the whole Charmed thing about 'Death'

That guy just has a very 'death' look about him!

David said in an interview that ever since Angel came back in season 4 after becoming Angelus that he has tried to merge the two sides of himself. You notice how he acted in the last few episodes of Angel season 4? The character of Angel is always evolving and I think that this is just another step. He has already started to forget his no killing humans rule.

I think that he has totally forgotten it. He killed lots of those guards in Conviction. Sure, they were evil. But they were also human. If Buffy could see him now.
::dk:: ::dk::

I think that after 5 years of fighting Wolfram and Hart Angel has realized that there are humans in the world even more evil than demons.

I loved this episode, fave so far of S5. Thought I would hate it because it was Spike centric but if was pretty nifty!

^^^ I actually thought that it was gonna be kind of crappy. But i agree. I think it's the best of Season 5 so far.

Can't wait for next weeks eppy.
