Discussion of 5.08 "Destiny" - Airdate 11/19/03

Spike is awesome. He is so pure in his character that I fully expected him to try to get some action once he was corporeal. He was fabulous when he told Angel the real reason Angel can't stand the sight of Spike. He made him the monster he is/was. God this show just gets better every day.

OH MY GOD!!!

Oh...My...God...Lindsey???????When I saw him I was think not happending...no way...then when I saw him clearly...I was jumping up and downlike a mad man cursing him out...that ep was great...everything was GREAT!!!!!!! The parts about Buffy they were a slap in the face to both Spike and Angel...not to mention the whole Angel talling Spike Buffy was imagining him...that was freakin pricless...also the Mt. Dew that was great!! I am so excited bout that it was great my fav ep EVER!!! I was flipping out!!!!!!Wow!!!Wow!!!Wow!!!

I know it was Lindsey. Me and my friend was arguing over it! That was a great moment. Spike and Angel fighting was down right funny. I love seeing them fight. They get back into their "true" form. The Mountain Dew part was great. It is... Mountain Dew?" That was perfect. I know Eve was evil. I was right. I love "Destiny" I love a fan of this one!

Its Harmony we are talking about here, to her she thinks that Spike cares about her in the end. What Spike is doing with Harmony is what Buffy did with Spike in S6, one is useing the other to get what they want while the other one gets the feelings.

Angel isnt about women impowerment, it is about Angel who is not female but a man. And Joss said that he didnt even make Buffy to be ALL about women impowerment.

Harmony I dont see to be there for eye candy because she is here to fill the bitch quota Cordy left behind and Eve is here to be the devilish Wolferman Hart girl whose intentions we do not fully know yet but Lilah still rules.

I dont agree with Spike having sex with Harmony but what the hey ill have to get over it.

i just want to say again that the WB cannot run a decent trailer to save their life! Juliet Landau got screwed! they made it look like she was gonna be all over this ep, but she was there for like 30 seconds!

that fight was awsome though, spike won! i never thought he would, guess angel's suit and tie aint to good for the fighting prowess after all. i thought they cut the budget, but that scene looked expensive!

and isnt everyone so happy now? now we officially have a reason to hate eve!

This season just keeps getting better and better! If any of the writers happen to read this, my compliments on a job well done!

Gotta say, I was suspicious about Sirk when we were first introduced to him back in the S4 finale. Being a former watcher, is it possible he'll become a kind of "arch-nemesis" for Wes?

Loved the Angel / Spike fight. Probably one of the best either series has ever had. For me, it ranks right up there with the first encounter with The Beast back in 4x07 - Apocalypse, Nowish.

So, Eve is evil. Well, guess we'd all figured that. But I never in a million years thought Lyndsey would be the other player. And it looks as if he's playing both sides of the game. Just one thing. There have been rumors of a possible return for Lyndsey ever since his departure. How is it possible that ME kept something this huge a secret?!?

Can't wait to see what happens next!

AHA! Just as I've been saying. More to Eve than has met the eye. Fred/Spike attraction. Lindsay was a nice twist though.

Do they want us to dislike Spike? Seriously. JM said in an interview somewhere how Joss likes to dump a pie (metaphor) on favorite characters.

I don't think they care if you like or dislike Spike. I don't think Spike cares if you like or dislike Spike either. That's sort of the point. Spike-with-soul is one of the good guys, more or less. But Spike-with-soul also threatened to kill Principal Wood and has no real remorse for having killed Wood's mom.

If you want to see the emotional side of Spike you need look no farther than William. Even after he lost his soul, he couldn't hold a candle to Angel when it came to duplicity.

Yeah so Spike went after Harm the first chance he got. So? He did give her a chance to say no. She was a willing "trash can" if that makes it any better. And, anyway, that's just perfectly in character for Harmony. Isn't it?

Basically, Spike (ever since he picked up that name for himself) has always been a "bad boy" and always will be. And underneeth, there'll always be the ever-vulnerable William (that writes bloody awful poetry).

But the good/fun part about Spike is that you always know where you stand with him. He's a dick. He's selfish. He's kinda mean sometimes. But (IMHO) a lot of people have these traits in them. The only way in which a person like Spike is different from most folks is he makes no attempt to hide or suppress these traits.

Plus he really, really, really has some bad history with Angel. So Spike can't stand to be bested by him. Let's not forget that.

About Lindsey:
Presumably all the signs and symbols on the walls and on his body are there to mystically conceal his presence from the Senior Partners. They'd be more than a little pissed to find out he's back in town.

I imagine Lindsey's goal is probably nothing more than to get Angel killed, and also mess up the Senior Partners' plans anyway he possibly can. So that would mean he was responsible for corporealizing Spike; and also he probably climbed into the crater that was Sunnydale himself to retrieve the amulet and send it back to W&H.

The "last straw" for Lindsey was probably when he heard that Angel was now running W&H. Try and see it from his point-of-view. He always hated Angel anyway, and now it looks like Angel's sold out to the baddies. It makes sense for Lindsey to try to get Angel killed.

I kind of hope the evil robot hoards are working for Lindsey. It would make things simpler.

Actually, I'm surprised Wesley let him keep his job. I'm kinda surprised Sirk wanted to keep his job after Wesley clocked him.

Sirk is easily hate-able. During the scene where Sirk is belittling the main chars, I was thinking back fondly of the time Wesley hit him... hoping it would happen again.

This was a pretty wicked episode, probably my favorite this season, and it sets us up for what promises to be quite a ride the rest of the season. Some thoughts:

1)Spike and Harmony-I was a little surprised that either of them would go for this but I wasn't greatly upset about it. It wasn't particularly nice of Spike to use Harmony but she didn't have to play along either. And let's remember, having a soul doesn't make you perfect. Spike and Angel still have human emotions to deal with and there's also the matter of a demon inside them. Some less than perfect behavior from either of them shouldn't shock people. And why the hell shouldn't Spike have almost killed Principal Wood? Are we forgetting that Wood plotted with Giles and tried to kill Spike first? Granted, Wood had a good reason for doing it(which is why Spike let him live in the end) but if someone tries to kill you I don't think it's totally unreasonable that you consider killing them. I think Wood is lucky that Spike didn't rip his head off.

2)Spike vs Angel-The fight was awesome, one of the Buffyverse's best. I enjoyed it, but at the same time I kinda wished it wasn't happening. I make no secret of the fact that Spike is my favorite character but I also like Angel and I don't really want to see them beating each other to a bloody pulp. It's certainly understandable though. I still would like to see them work out their issues and at least be civil to each other but with Lindsey and Eve plotting to keep them at each other's throats I figure that will take a while. On the matter of which one is "better" or "more worthy" I think they're both flawed heroes and it's tough to say if one is better than the other.

3)Lindsey and Eve-I don't really like the Lindsey character but he does make things interesting and it was quite a surprise to see him back(and with Eve.) Clearly they have their own agenda. I'm wondering if Lindsey is working on his own initiative or if a more powerful being or group is pulling his strings. I'm also interested in how many people at Wolfram & Hart are working with Lindsey and Eve. Was it just Sirk or do they have more people on the inside of the firm? Looks like there's a lot to unravel in the coming weeks and I can't wait to see what happens.

Great episode! I fully enjoyed it!

Great ending with the appearance of Lindsey, haven't seen him for awhile. The fight scene between Angel and Spike was FANTASTIC! That has been brewing for awhile; you gotta think that they want to get at each other for many reasons (most of all, Buffy!). But yes, quality episode. Loved the flashbacks, as always.

This season of Angel is awesome so far!

It was great!!!I was awestruck when I saw Lyndsey at the end of ep...So many possibilities...Angel vs. Spike was marvelous...

this was such a good episode. I liked how spikes' now corporeal, i didn't really like that him and Harmony thing though. I also liked the angel/spike fight, that was interesting. I feel so bad for Angel though, he was so dissapointed that spike beat hime. but do you think that meant that spike was the one who fufills the prophecy?
So eve is evil..but she's not working for the senior parnters is she? i liked that Lyndsey came back, good to see him again.

I am going to like Eve even more... I know she was evil, and I like some evil people.

I kind of don't really like Eve. I don't think Sarah Thompson is meant for the role, either. Eve is like Sarah, Plain and Tall with an evil side that doesn't show much. Like the Mayor, only not as charming. She's annoying to have around, IMO.

Yeah! I knew that b*tch was no good 🙂

Yeah, me too. I remember, specifically, the scene, just after she'd been strangled and Fred was trying to be sympathetic; then Eve tried playing up the sympathy angle even more by saying Fred didn't have to fake it like that.

As Eve was leaving she looked back at Fred and said, "I'm not the bad guy."

I paused for a moment to consider the possibility (the Lindsey connection wasn't revealed until later, remember). Then I remembered that she worked for the Senior Partners and shouted back to the screen, "Yes you are!"

I just found out about Lindsey's return, I am from the UK. Did not wish to know any spoiler's but I couldn't avoid this one. I never thought Lindsey would turn up again, they kept it quiet about his return! 🙂 I am so looking forward to S5.

I loved this episode! My favorite so far! Everything about it was just so awesome. Lindsey, Drusilla, Eve ... everything was just so top-notch. I think I've watched it about five times and I'll probably watch it again sometime soon. It makes me put faith back into the writers. 😀 🙂

I'm starting to get really invested in this season after I watched "Destiny." Angel might be revamped, but the storyline that started in this episode reminds me of the Angel I loved watching for the past seasons.
