A mysterious stranger (guest star Christian Kane) approaches Spike (James Marsters) claiming responsibility for recorporealizing him in a mission to guide Spike in supplanting Angel (David Boreanaz) as the new vampire champion. Meanwhile, Angel is racked by intense fever dreams and hallucinations of his worst fears intensifying his worries that he will lose authority to Spike.

wow, this is so strange.......lol I feel so bad for Angel. And the wany they used Buffy's voice from ealier...but they couldn't even have smg guest star, that was annoying.

ok, dumb question..i forgot, how was spike recorporealized?
 
he opened a letter, it flashed, he wasnt that walked through walls anymore.

It was a intresting episode to watch, the little parasite disgusted me. Angels dream thingys were weird and I kept wondering why he died liked 2 times. Not that much Lorne and Linsday playing the role of Doyle how bitter sweet.

The whole Buffy thing I just laughed at because it was funny, them talking about prom, Buffy voiceover from Prom, talking about Prom during sex its just a intresting thing. But the whole her having her neck turned was kind of tacky(was she waiting for Spike to bite her or something?) and im thinking they used Mercedes for the whole Buffy double bit. And SMG definatly would not guest star in this episode just have her charecter sleep with Spike agian.

Oh gang up on Eve yay but she still gets away lucky lucky girl.

its a 9/10 episode for me and I could actually stand Spike in this episode and they made an excellent script.

Next weeks episode YAY! But I miss Andrews old hair! He looks like William(Spike), cut the hair!

Great episode there. The dreams were funny, unusual, unexpected...I love the dream stuff. I thought it was funny when Fred pulled all that stuff out of Angel...the fishbowl, the necklace. The one with Lorne as "Honky Tonk" was creepy...especially with Gunn growling and the darkness of that booth. I felt so bad for Angel when he walked out of the office as the mailguy in that one dream.

It's so weird how Lindsey is pretending to be Doyle, a guy with visions. I liked all those references to the earlier episodes, mostly the fight that reminded me of old times...Lindsey even mentioned Angel not saving Tina in "City Of..." which was intriguing. W&H really is changing the gang, I think. I don't know what's going to happen in the future.

Last thing, the confrontation on Eve was cool at the end. At first I thought it'd end with a little mystery followed by the gang carrying on normally. I wasn't thinking they'd really start accusing Eve just yet. I'm glad she didn't break down or anything. It should be getting even better. And, we know the tattoos are for remaining undetected by W&H.
 
That was so awesome, and weird but I did not like that Lindsey was pretending to be Doyle, that was very disrespectful, in my opinion
 
This is an amazing ep... I'm watching it right now. I was in mute shock, laughing hysterically, crying all of a sudden 'cause of Angel, and now I'm back to mute shock again.
 
Seriously loved this episode. Lindsey as Spike's Doyle is, IMO, freaking BRILLIANT. Some of Angel's hallucinations were a little TOO weird, but I suffered through them. I've liked Eve's character since the premiere, and she keeps on getting interesting. I'm intrigued to see what happens next in terms of her/Lindsey and Team Angel. There were some great homages to past eps (both from BtVS and ANGEL) in this one, and I particularly enjoyed the sequence where Spike stakes two vamps with wrist-mounted stakes. I also liked how the parasites that were causing Angel's hallucinations were like blue versions of the Bezoars from 'Bad Eggs' (which is, IMO, an underrated episode, but that's another story).

I'm seriously looking forward to seeing what happens next with our characters, and can't wait to see next week's ep.
 
I love this ep and before, "Harm's Way" was my favorite this season, but "Soul Purpose is possibly even better. I had the closed captions on and when Spike entered his apartment and Lindsey was there to keep a tab on him, the captions read 'Doyle' instead of 'Lindsey.' Spike's apartment looks a lot like Angel's Hyperion hotel room in some of the designs... The parasite was a little to spidery for me, so euch...

At least Buffy appeared in this ep, even if SMG didn't, lol. Angel still remebers her exact words from almost five years ago...

'Angel' is just getting better and better and I really can't wait for next week's ep and the 100th episode. I miss Cordelia and Andrew looks a little more serious next week from the promo... I can's wait to see that new Vampire Slayer.
 
andrew looks hot! this ep was the best!!! i loved the bear lol those dreams were weird and the buffy voiceover was unecassary i like lindsay now-hes hot!!!!!!~and those are rene's final thoughts lol
 
I'm almost afraid to say it, but I didn't like this episode.

It's almost like we watched a different episode.

I have to do the Simon Cowell thing here.

I found it forced, disjointed, unbelievable, and amateurish. It was like a high school play. Not worthy of the series.

I liked all those nods to Invasion of the Body Snatchers though, like when the Fang Gang all did that high-pitched IOTBS "we see you" scream in the dream sequence.

i second that! i wanted to rip mcDonald to pieces as soon as he said that. he's not worthy to even speak Doyle's name!

and the whole spike pulling season one with the dual stakes, i thought he was about to turn around and do the "walking down the alley" shot from the end of the credits. if he would have, i think i would have either died laughing, or just stopped watching the ep out of cheesyness.

other stuff was cool though. i wanna see what those runes on mcdonald do, and if they're the reason he got his new hand.

I have to be honest here, I didn't really like the epi as a whole. There were some parts I liked, the throwbacks (Spike's Spartan existence ripped right out of the Faith plot, hmm I wonder if that is an innuendo..), the "Doyle" thing (funny that right before Cordy is coming back they mention Doyle) and there were a few good spots with Harmony, and Eve.
The should have been SMG appearance was awful! That has to be the worst Angel moment ever.. The voice overs blew, the tone didn't fit the mood and really I think they could have done better even with the Buffy double. I was surprised.. I mean the Buffyverse has turned out some really good dream/hallucination sequences, Angel's just seemed blah.
Anyways, I loved that it was filled with little things for the long time Buffy fans to pick up on, but it certainly wasn't Angel's finest hour... I am hoping that the show's poor quality isn't just from DB directing.
 
well I thought that it was funny t hat on the same day that TNT showed the EPPY where Doyle got killed, a Doyle pop's up in the new one.

Spike is still my fav, the dreams sucked, I turned to a basketball game during some of them

The Spike double stakes was freaking cool.

Eve needs to be offed fast, she is annoying, the ANgel Team has battled worse, why don't they just off her.


Cordie coming back, that's going to be cool even for one eppy.
 
I liked the episode overall. Although, the dreams were so ridiculous. It did make it kinda funny though. All in all a pretty good episode. I enjoyed it. I actually liked Lindsey pretending to be Doyle, I hope Spike mentions something about some guy named Doyle with visions. I wonder what the reaction would be...I think it would be interesting...but anyway...good ep.
 
I really enjoyed this episode. I also felt it more easy to understand than "Restless", which I still don't completely understand. I have to commend DB on his direction. My only problem is that there were moments in which I didn't know if I was watching one of Angel's dreams . . . or real time.

The Fang Gang really creeped me out in the episode . . . and I'm not just talking about their actions in Angel's dream. Wes and Gunn's debate over how to deal with that warlock (who, by the way, is technically a human) and Fred's gradual acceptance of their plans, shocked me. Angel's outburst on having W&H kill the warlock and the latter's followers was also a bit chilling. But what really freaked me out was Wes and Gunn (Crockett & Tubbs - heh)'s visit to Spike. Yikes! Why would they have a problem with him acting as some kind of vigilante? Do they have some kind of need to keep tabs on him? Or what?

Everyone keeps speculating on whether Lindsey & Eve, or maybe Angel (souled) might become this season's Big Bad. What if it turns out to be the entire Fang Gang? After this episode, I see the possibilities. Now wouldn't that be intresting?

By the way - Spike's rant over the woman he had saved in the alley? Priceless moment! I laughed so hard, I ended up nearly choking. In fact, he had some very good lines in this episode.
 
That was a strange.... and i mean strange episode..... i mean i couldn't really follow the real from the happenin. Season 5 has rocked so far.....but i still didn't get what was real and what wasn't so did Lindsey really talk to spike? I mean i dont think he did i think that Angel was dreaming that spike took over his place....... that it wasn't he who had Doyle, or Buffy or anything that was good in his life or that he did wasn't worth anything..,... now that spike has a soul and has done good to
 
I've gotta go with Nerd4Hire and Faithy. I didn't think much of this episode. Like Nerd4Hire said, it felt forced. It contains some very cool ideas (I love the idea of Lindsey impersonating Doyle for Spike) but none of them played out very well. I don't think Boreanaz did a terrible job in his directorial debut (although a few scenes were a bit awkwardly staged), I just don't think he had much of a script to work with. It's very frustrating to watch characters who have uttered some of the best dialoge ever written for television have to plod through such dreck. I did really like the Fight Club-esque apocalypse, though. That was pretty nifty.

The Invasion of the Body Snatchers thing was neat, although nothing will ever compare to the creepiness of Donald Sutherland screeching at the end of the 1970s remake of that movie...so disturbing.
