Lawson (guest star Eyal Podell, "Behind Enemy Lines"), a mysterious man from Angel's (David Boreanaz) past, arrives at Wolfram & Hart and takes the gang hostage. Through flashbacks to World War II, it is revealed that Angel worked with the U.S. Navy to recover a captured German submarine with American sailors on board. The ship also has a secret cargo, a dangerous trio of vampires, including Spike (James Marsters), who were kidnapped by the Germans and forced to help the Nazis. When the sub comes under attack, Angel saves Lawson's life by turning him into a vampire. Now, sixty years later, Lawson has arrived at Wolfram & Hart seeking revenge.

How come the WB site calls this ep "1943"? I would look in the US S5 forum to see if it's answered there but I'm trying to stay as spoiler-free as possible - doesn't always work though. Some times you can't help but look 🙂
 
WB change the names from time to time, most people go by the original names released with Spoilers but WB seem to insist on calling them by the new (and normally worse) names.

Happens with Charmed all the time.
 
Not sure about this episode. Angel the American patriot? It could be good but I'm more looking forward to the episodes coming after it (Smile Time, Joss' episode and that thing with Fred).
 
I dunno, it sounds a bit wierd. I'll watch it of course, but what i've read in mags and heard doesn't sound great.
 
I missed it, ARGH. *punches wall* My dad just _had_ to watch football, didn't he? He could go upstairs and watch it because it was on ITV, but no, he had to hog the only TV with cable in the house. ARGH. I swear, next Tuesday I'm watching Angel no matter what. It's not like I watch TV all the time, just 9.00-10pm Tuesdays.
 
A very good ep IMO. We found out where and when The Initiative came from. Spike was hilarious as a Nazi. Lawson's story (and Angel's dilemma) was genuinely moving. And it's

It was a good ep...I'd give it a 7.
It wasnt just my thing.
Black haired Spike? Well...It didnt suit him...but I guess we're not here to judge hair colour, lol...
And that Prince of Lies? What was that all about? He was a bit cheesy...
Did I see right that he was played by Camden Toy (Ubervamp, Head Gentleman, Gnarl) ? Or was that my wacky imagination?
 
The episode was a lot better than I thought it would be. We found out what happens when a souled Vampire sires someone. Lawson was pretty cool and the sub scenes were great. Also Fred looked so hot at the beginning of the episode! Looking forward to next weeks episode.
 
It looked like a lot of hard work for not that substansial an episode...I guess we should feel lucky even the less exciting episodes get made with so much 'nous'....Andy Hallett must have been delighted when he saw the script!!I'm in one scene,wahoo!! 😛

I wonder why they didn't just have Lorne tied up like the rest of the gang? They just sent him off. Also this episode was broadcasted in America during the sweeps period. Thats why so much effort was put into it.
 
Maybe Lorne sung Lawson away, or maybe he did run off for a drink somewhere. Anyone else find it odd how long the camera stayed on the bloke after he said "Of course he does sir." It was on him for about six seconds after he said it.
 
I only just watched this episode last night. I liked it. Not as much as the other eps, and i wasn't really paying attention.
