Thing I want to know is, why do Angel and Spike try to kill Illyria with swords? I mean, didn't Wesley tell them that weapons in that vein have a nasty habit of shattering against her skin?

Also, why does Angel assume that gun fire will hurt (or slow down at least) Illyria? He's seen The Beast and Skip shrug of bullets. Now suddenly he thinks that gunfire is powerful enough to put the hurt on anything. Guess his photographic memory just isn't what it used to be.

I don't think any of them were thinking clearly. They were pretty devastated by the loss of Fred and when you've never dealt with one of the first original demons, how can you know what will work. Plus, they didn't want to totally destroy her or that would mean really giving up on Fred forever.

In a way Angel has dealt with an Old One before... kind of. He was there when the Mayor ascended in season 3 of BtVS. Interesting... in his last season on BtVS Angel dealt with the the mind of a human in the physical form of an Old One, now in the last year of his own series he's dealing with the mind of an Old One in the physical form of a human.
