Discussion of 5.19 Time Bomb (WB-US) Airing 4/28/04

Ok.... I was rather mesmerized with this episode (and shocked). I loved the way Illyria "rescued" Gunn (very smart for an ancient demon spirit to think of putting the amulet on the other demon). IMO.... it was very clever of the writers to "kill" all the main characters. I was speechless and almost fell off the couch. Joss stated that there may be some deaths of the major characters in the last few episodes and I was blown away with it in this episode. I hate to say it but it was awesome to see Illyria destroy them within just a few seconds. Thank goodness that her shifting thru time brought them back. It also gave Angel an opportunity to understand what Lindsay and Illyria were saying. In order to beat them , you have to play their game. Angel seems to now realize that you cant win all the small battles and the big battle also, sometimes sacrifices have to be made to win the war. Really great ep, and I bet that Illyria will make the "team" too. 😉
 
I thought this was a really good episode, i can't believe it's one of the last ones we'll ever see! Ok, yeah i loved how Illyria rescued Gunn, I'm so glad he came back, i was a little worried that all the characters were just going to leave and that would be the end....

I loved the scene where Gunn went into Wesley's office and he was all peppy and acting strange..that was funny. I'm glad they're getting along though, and I'm glad Wesley and Angel worked things out, I didn't like them fighting.

I was so scared after Illyria killed all of them, really fast too. That was a pretty cool scene though. I loved the time travel scenes too, that was really awesome. I can't wait until next week, is Buffy going to be there? It kinda sounded like it..unless its just a trick...
 
Obviously, yet another great episode. Jaime Bergman was convincing.

I like the new darkness the show is going into Wes was great and Illyria will always be my favorite smurf. I really can't wait for the finale.
 
It was quite good..definitely worse than 'The Origin' IMO..I hated Jamie Bergman(and not only because she's DB's wife,really). Illyria was as always great, but Lorne and Harmony were for me just like an addition..Not extremely needed. Angel-as always it's nice to watch him, but hair..Bad boy🙁

i liked the episode so much that i had to watch it again!

just curious how they're wrap up the series with the final few episodes

Are you kidding me? Lorne was amazing in this episode. I don't think I have ever laughed so hard at the antics with him. He was definitely needed.

Anyways, this episode honestly has to be one of my favorites of the season. I'm a sucker for time travel, and this one just made it all the more better. And I think I'm the only one here who just about started to cry when Illyria took out all the guys. She dusted Spike and I stopped eating my sandwich and just stared at the screen. Then everyone else went.

I just about burst into tears. I'm a wimp. Even though I knew it couldn't actually happen, because of them needing to be in the rest of the series...it was still terrible to see them go down like that. But then again, it was awesome how it all happened. The ending was very nice and intriguing. Kept me on the edge. Seeing Angel go forth with helping the clients...what does he have in store?
 
Very good ep IMO. Time travel doesn't often get pulled off but I think it went ok here. Lorne was a bit useless and I don't think Angel slapping him was needed. Hamrony was bearable. I was hoping we'd see more of Lindsey, what have they done with him?


I'm very surprised that no-one has adressed the mind-wipe. There is no way Wes and Angel have just got over it in a week! Do Lorne and Gunn know?! Surely they deserve to. I wish they'd have just left it alone and not dealt with it if they wern't going to follow up on it. Next week looks balls as SMG won't be in it, I'd much rather see the mindwipe issue carried on.
 
I really liked this episode. Every time I watch Illyria's charcter I like her more and more. It's amazing how Amy Acker can go from playing Fred to Illyria, and play them both so well. She's truely an amazing actress, and this episode really showcased that.

Lorne is becoming even more useless every episode. It seemed like they tried to just shove his charcter in there without much point or need to. He's becoming unnecessary.

Good to see Gunn is out of the holding dimension. I would of been annoyed if they left him there for the rest of the series...

I will be interested in seeing more of Illyria's after everything that happened this episode...

I thought the same thing. He just seemed forced into it because gee, whiz, Andy has a billing.
 
Lorne is the comic relief. So no, his character isn't really required. The main purpose of his character is to lighten the mood. He's like Xander, every now and then Lorne gets a good speech then fades into the background again.

Is he required? No. Would I miss him if he was gone? Yes. Heck, I'd rather have most of the useful characters get killed first. Lorne is the only bright eyed optimist left in the bunch. Imagine how depressing the show would be if he left. Maybe that's why he's there. Because without his charming personality and stunning fashions being around to brighten their days, all the brooding champion-types at Wolfram and Hart would have killed themselves in fits of depression by now.

True, that is his purpose. He provides humor in situations that would otherwise be depressing. But I just don't think he is that funny. I find his humor forced. But hey - just my opinion.
 
I find it funny that everyone complains about someone not being used in the episode. Oh no Lorne isn't as big as everyone else in the cast, so he's becoming useless! Seriously... do you know how packed and forced it would be if they used all 7+ characters the same exact amount in every single episode? It would be stupid. It would be forced. Angel would have to run 2 hours, instead of 1. It's just not real. Lorne isn't as big a player in the show as the others are. Let it go. Sometimes they don't need to use everyone in every single episode as much as we want. I think Lorne was used in this episode a lot more than Gunn. Or at least his part was a hell of a lot better.
 
I just rewatched whatever episode it was that Lindsey left in season two (with the "evil hand" and all) and Lindsey said (paraphrasing) "The key to Wolfram and Hart, don't let them make you play their game, make them play your's." wonder if Angel still remembers this and is what he was up to.
 
Upon further reflection, I really think they overwrote Illyria's dialogue in this ep. She goes on and on to Angel when she should be trying to find a way to get out of the loop. But I think the higher purpose was to give him the key to defeating W&H. Still, Origin was the best episode of Angel ever and that makes it harder to judge Timebomb with such high expectations.

I expect that is why a lot of people didn't like this one as much. It wasn't bad, it just didn't compare.

Ninjalizer, I didn't think Lorne wasn't being used enough, I just thought his writing wasn't all that great. But I did blow it out of proportions, so I'm sorry. (Watch me let it go.. Hehee - eh nevermind)

That's what I'm saying. Here, do this: let us know where Lorne could have been used more. Write him into the script more. While you're at it (because no one mentioned it), make sure Gunn is used more. He was hardly used as well.

Don't take this the wrong way. I'm definitely not trying to be a jerk. I just want you to see how impossible it is to just use every single character more than they use them already. So if you wanted them to use Lorne more than they did, then you have to cut out some other scenes. Just try it.
 
I thought this episode was really good. I liked all the spike and Angel moments.They were hilarious. I really really mad that they didn't show buffy though, they went all the way there and we didn't even get a glimpse of her!! grrrr.

Illyria pretending to be Fred was creepy and I felt really bad for Wesley. But atleast that saved him that pain of having to tell her parents that she died. But then agian, they should know, she's their daughter.
