Angel (David Boreanaz) and Spike (James Marsters) travel to Rome with plans to rescue Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar, who does not appear in the episode) from their old nemesis The Immortal. While in Italy, they also attempt to retrieve the head of a fallen demon leader to prevent a perilous power struggle between several warring demon clans.

Julie Benz guest stars as Darla, Tom Lenk guest stars as Andrew and Juliet Landau guest stars as Drusilla. Alexis Denisof, Amy Acker, J. August Richards, Andy Hallett and Mercedes McNab also star. David Greenwalt directed the episode written by Drew Goddard & Steven S. DeKnight.

I have to admit that I didnt enjoy this episode that much. The Fred plot was great, Illryia was intresting with her morphing into Fred, and I loved how Amy Acker was able to change her voice so well and quickly.

The Angel-Spike plot wasnt that great, all it seemed like was comedy. Angelus and William were just so out of charecter it wasnt funny and the first shot of them being all chained up made them look bad(in a bad way).

So now Angel and Nina are boyfriend and girlfriend? when did this occur? Im not a Aina shipper since I just dont enjoy them together, not because im a Bangel shipper but still. When did this occur? Angel still wants Buffy yet he goes out with Nina now okiedokie..

I did like how the writer put in Spike and Angel talking about who saved the world the most(which constantly comes up with us fans when we try to talk about who deserves Shanshu more).

Loved seeing Andrew agian, all of his scenes were great.

Hated the slow motion fighting scene in the club, just emmmmm, not that enjoyable.

And next weeks episode:

Angel and Nina in bed.....What The Fing is going on, espically since Angel is obviously or partly naked underneith the sheets and shes in her little get up(forgot the name) so they obviously did something. Agian WTF? Writers what is going on?

well for this ep I would have to give it a 7.9/10
 
LMAO, this was a great ep!

-Spike and Dru "Ciao, ciao, ciao..." hillarious!

It's always nice to see David Greenwalt's name in the "Directed by" slot. I must say he did an outstanding job. I loved the way the fight scene in the club played out, the music was perfect! Oh, and seeing Amy play Fred again, well that was just painful. I miss Fred so much...
 
Great Episode!

I loved it! The comedy was great. I especially loved it when Angelus said something like "Leave or I"ll take your wee little arrow and shove it slowly up your arse" and then the men ran. I was cracking up.

I loved the Fred/Illeria scenes. Amy Acker did a great job doing the two. Great to see Fred again.

Great Episode. Can't believe there's only two left. That sucks beyond belief!
 
I have to say that I really wasnt that impressed with this episode. Tooo much Buffy!!!!! I love BTVS and all, but how many times have we heard this story (she loves me more...etc). Pleeeaase get over it!! Time is short and wasting it over who gets Buffy is boring. I know people will disagree but I am over it and have moved on. Too much "comedic overtones" in this ep. I did like how Illyria was able to morph into Fred. Seems like she wants to experience humanity but its breaking poor Wesleys heart. I do have to agree that Amy did a great job changing her voice and mannerisms so quickly and smoothly from Fred to Illyria. Amy definitely has shown her ablilty as an actress. Hope that the final episodes do justice to the cast and the fans.
 
I loved this episode Spike and Angel working together that was so cute... and them fighting over buffy lol...I loved how Illyria could just play off as fred.... I agree Amy has definatly shown her abilitys as a great actress... It sucks there is only 2 episodes left i feel like crying lol
 
I liked the ep. As always, the Wes/Illyria scenes were superb. I think this aspect of the show has become a main focus, at least for me. Spike and Dru in Italy...that was hilarious. I kind of think the whole Nina thing seems...out of nowhere. But, I'm glad Spike and Angel seem to be "moving on" from Buffy. But now I'm a little curious as to the Buffy/Immortal situation. How they met, where they met, etc. The next episode looks intriguing.

I've got to disagree with you about the ep in general though I did like the Illyria scenes I think they could have been expanded more to explore the characters. I absolutely hated the scenes in Itlay. First off, Italians are not just comic, crazy, fashion obsessed people with thick accents and many speak better English than Americans. The William/Angelus scenes were out of character and I seriously don't get Andrew with the two pretty women since Buffy always hinted that he's gay. Mostly I didn't like this episode at all. The immortal storyline was useless and stupid. If there is someone that powerful in Italy and he's dating Buffy that is important. Especially since he is not above getting involved with souless vampires. Spike was right, Buffy has to be crazy to date someone that dangerous who has so little reguard for the distinctions between good and evil. Weird episode in general.

Watch the end of smile time again. Where the go to have breakfast together. Just because they dont talk about it much doesnt mean it didnt occur / isnt occuring. And yes in orgins he does say he doesnt have a girlfriend because he cant afford to but just because he wants to deny something like that occuring doesnt mean it isnt whats going on.

As far as angel still loving buffy but being with nina. Buffy still loved angel when she was with Riley. Just because your not with someone still doesnt mean the feelings arent still there. Plus if you havent noticed spike and angel have been fighting over who should get the girl from the get go. Hes not gonna back out now over something as simple as having another GF already.
 
OMG! The cookie dough reference was GRAND! lmao.. Angel almost cried, hahaha.. and the previously mentioned Spike n Dru Ciao thing, wow, takes my signature goodbye to a new and interesting buffyverse level, lol... There was several enjoyable parts in this episode, like Angelus' "if you don't leave I'll take your wee little arrows and spend the next week slowly shoving them up your arse" then Spike asks if he's ever done that, and I was laughing so hard, it was funny, but I have to agree WAY out of character for old time Angelus and Spike.. I was hoping for a classic well rounded episode after last weeks, soso episode, but this was kind of a let down, though I liked it. Andrew's whole Bond makeover thing at the end I think was a tie in to what he was telling Angel and Spike about changing, but either I am kind of dumb, or they didn't do as well as usual with the subtext.. This whole episode was kind of crazy, not in a good way though, like a unorganized mess kind of way, but maybe they are doing that on purpose.. The Fang Gang seems to be deteriorating rapidly, did anyone else notice that everyone seemed REALLY run down, like Wes and Lorne, and Angel especially.. Lorne is drinking all the time, and Wes looks half dead, this Illyria thing is so heavy on him. Amy was great as Illyria, she is so cold, and the contrast from Fred to Illyria was excellent. I hope Amy gets the recognition she deserves for her performance. Also what's with Harm lately? I don't think she has finished a sentence in a few weeks, she is always cut off and her scenes are really small, it's a change to how she was much more present before the show was canceled. I found it an odd coincidence.
Anyways I hope next weeks episode will be better, but it is starting to look grim for the finale, it will be hard to pull Angel out of this downward spiral so close to the end.
I am sadly looking forward to the last 2 episodes, <sniff>...

I could be nice and say "no biggie. just a filler episode", but that would ignore the fact of it being rank, amateurish crap.

It was the "Him" of ATS.

Angel and Spike - These clowns are supposed to be our champions? It was a waste of Marsters and Boreanaz. Those two boobs from Dum and Dummer 2 would have served as well.

And Buffy...what was that all about. Was this all just some buffoonery designed to make us stop caring about the whole Buffy thing. Worked for me.

I can't believe Goddard and DeKnight wrote it. What were they smoking? On the other hand, that is the same team that wrote Why We Fight. How is it two of the best solo writers in the history of BTVS/ATS get together, and write a script Beavis and Butthead could have slapped together?

The only thing that almost saved it was the Wes/Illyria/Fredish subplot. Now that would have made an episode. Why didn't they do that one?

Three episodes left to go, and they flop this High Schoolish, Fanfic, thing out in front of us. I'm worried.
 
I enjoyed this episode, but I agree that there were some problems with the Spike and Angel parts. I think that the topic of their mutual affixation with Buffy is one that needs exploring, but I agree with Primal Slayer in that it was treated with a bit too much comedy. It was humorous, but at times I could feel myself getting impatient and wondering when the episode would continue to advance the plot. With so little time left in the series, my patience for comedy and irrelevance is decreasing. The scene that showed the heads of Buffy and The Immortal also seemed unnecessary. Obviously, Sarah was unable or unwilling to appear in this episode. It would have made perfect sense for Angel and Spike never to have seen Buffy at all, so I do not understand why that scene was shot the way it was. This simply added to my frustration with the Angel and Spike sections. I truly enjoyed the parts with Illyria and Wesley, though. I wish I could see this storyline progress further. I cannot imagine a satisfying end that could take place within the next two episodes.

One thing that I absolutely loved about this episode that I am sure nobody else did was that it revealed that Angel was seeing Nina. I have been a Nina/Angel ?shipper since they first appeared together. I just don?t see the lack of chemistry that others are complaining about. I really hope they end up together, even if I am the only with that hope. I guess we?ll find out next week.

As for Hitome?s comment about Andrew?s implied homosexuality, I am not sure that this was altogether dispelled by this episode. Would Andrew have been dating those women? Maybe I just don?t understand the Italian culture, but what woman would agree to a date with a guy and another of his girlfriends? These relationships seemed more likely to have been platonic. The change that Andrew mentioned was not the change from ambiguous sexuality to manly heterosexuality, but merely a change from geeky immaturity to cultured sophistication. This would make more sense for the episode as well, since the theme seemed to be that Angel and Spike?s obsessions with Buffy were pointless and immature. Maybe I am way off here. What do you think?
 
i'm getting tired of seeing buffy's hair...
this was a great light episode...this season needed some comedy...i'm glad it got it...

that chase scene was so gay...that it was classic...a falkin scooter chasing a car like that??...classic...
 
Normally I would have thought this was a really good episode. Well I guess it was.

Spike and Dru in Italy in the 50s - oh so perfect. Ciao! LOL

I loved how Spike and Angel kept insisting Buffy must have been under some sort of spell - and everyone just kept saying how lucky she was for being with The Immortal and basically implying he was some kind of sex god.

Fred/Illyria - Oh my gawd. Amy was just brilliant tonight. Hearing Illyria come out of Fred just freaked me out. Good job.

I guess my only beef is that with the series ending, this isn't the kind of episode I expected. I guess I expected epic. Dunno. We'll see where they end up.

Loved the Buffy cookie dough reference though!

I am pretty sure that was the entire point of the episode. For people to get over the fact that Buffy may never wind up with Angel or Spike. That life goes on. That life doesn't fit into neat little boxes with relationships that you can "ship". It seemed like the writers were trying to convey a very important point about life. People change, everything moves on. There is nothing you can do or "wish" to do to EVER change that fact. So, no Spuffy and no Bangel. They were both beautiful, in their own ways... but now they are over... for now.
I thought it was a pretty good episode, and the Italian W & H representative... well that about killed me. It was priceless. I loved her.
Fred/Illyria meeting with the Burkles and telling Wesley that she would like to further explore the romantic memories that Fred had for him. Interesting stuff.
I disagree with everyone who says this was a filler episode. It was a story finisher for the Bangel/Spuffy ships. Time for Angel to go spend more time w/ Nina and Spike to get a girlfriend.

I agree. At first I got confused with the numbers and thought this was the second last episode and was thinking..why why why are they wasting time on this. And i'm still thinking that.

I wasn't keen on most of the whole Buffy issue thing but at least it sorta ties up Angel and Spike's position with Buffy, which i'm guessing was the point.

How annoying was the CEO of the Rome Wolfram and Hart, she was doing my head in!

Like N4H commented on above the only thing that really made good watching was the Illyria scenes with Fred's parents. Here is hoping that next weeks is a lot better as its getting near the end now and with the Buffy finale they gave us we need something to make us go wow!
 
Ummm, that was a really weird episode. But it had alot of the funny in it, so it's semi redeemable. But leaves a whole lot more questions than answers when it comes to Buffy. And is it just me or were they hinting that Andrew is the Immortal towards the end of the ep. But either way, it was good to see him pimpin it with the itallian girls. I think that was added in there to answer alot of questions about Andrews sexuality as in I also think that it was there to showed that he had matured but also to say that no, Andrew is not gay. But whatever, it was a very weird episode.
 
It was an okay episode but I do agree with you guys. It was very disappointing considering we now only have two episodes left. I was hoping for a much broader story arc. This episode belonged closer to the beginning of the season.

I absolutly love the character Illyria. It's just incredibly disappointing for me to think this is all I'm going to see of her. ::crying::

There was some stuff that cracked me up in this episode. The look on Spike's face when he opened up the bag and saw the bomb was classic. That jacket Angel wore made him look like he should be at a Nascar event. The scooter chase was classic....it reminded me of that '80s movie Lover Boy.
