Discussion of Buffy 11.07 - Released 5/24/17 (Dark Horse)

Nope, I commented on it. I had decided to conclude that he was a variant or some such, using 'werewolf' as a simple shorthand. I've seen it suggested elsewhere that it could be a variation that has come about from the new seed, like the new vamps.

Thinking back on it more, didn't the group of werewolves with whom Oz was living in Season 8 appear to more or less have control over their changes? I distinctly recall them helping in the final battle, despite the fact that the battle almost certainly during a full moon night. If they could, indeed, control not only their change, but also remain more or less human in attitude, even in wolf persona, one of their kind, captured by authorities, remain on wolf form simply as a matter of self defense while confined with the other demons.

Maybe that's a stretch, and maybe you're right, it was just an unmentioned variant of the general werewolf type.Either way, most likely we're both simply trying to justify a writers' faux pas.

I don't remember the Tibet visit during S8 well enough, or the werewolf involvement in the final battle (I really must reread the comics when I finally get to the end of my current rewatch of the shows), but the original visit was to pick their brains to try to help the slayers learn to control their magical nature and suppress their magic as the werewolves had been controlling their changes. I've seen a panel quoted where one werewolf is arguably talking whilst in wolf face, but as the speech continues from the previous panel when he was in his human form, it isn't clear if the speech is what he completed saying before he then changed visually too, or if it was spoken after he had 'wolfed'. So I'm not sure if there were other occasions when they spoke as a wolf, or if it was just limited to being about keeping control otherwise. This latest occassion probably was a slip up in truth, but at least we can find ways/reasons to be able to explain it and shrug it off. 😛

The characters who come off the show are based on real people (of course). So I've been wondering: Who are new characters like Dowling based on? Then I saw an interview with Megan Levens (the artist who illustrated the 'Love dares you' arc in season 10) and I though hey! she looks like Calliope! What do you think?
