Discussion of SHIELD 1.12 "Seeds " - Aired 01/14/14 (ABC-US)

What is up with the different variations on the Shield logo used around the place? Is it just an older version and a newer version and the old one hasn't been phased out of some of the older places?

This episode was my favourite so far, by a mile.

I thought everything just worked. The story was interesting. I liked they didn't just ignore what Coulson had found out in last weeks episode, as they tend to do in more procedural shows, and AoS has had a hard time walking the time between procedural and serialised.

I really liked seeing May and Coulson paired off together, it's been kinda mentioned that they go way back, but this was the first time I actually felt that was believable.

I loved that there was two stories and that they gave more to the Skye story so soon after Coulsons, they could have skated by for a while with revealing "what happened to him" last week.

Skye has been my favourite from the start, but her story got even more interesting. Really want to know more about her background now, it wasn't really that interesting before, but 'powers or something' and no one knowing who her parents are make it way better!

Wonder if this means she is an already existing superhero from the Marvelverse or if she'll be someone new.

Anyone else thinking she'll be tied to the Clairvoyant somehow? I immediately had the though that she might be the Clairvoyant, but they already did the double agent story with her, which might have just been a misdirect but I hope thats not the case.
Even if she's not, the Clairvoyant is the only character that seems to have suggested natural powers in SHIELD, as they seem to be going with a more based-in-science approach for everyone else, so the agent mentioning Skye possibly having powers as a baby is interesting.

There was also kinda a blink and you'll miss it moment where Fitz mentions that Hydra is defunct, is that known? Has that been mentioned before? I assume they'll be the main bad guys of Captain America in Winters Soldier, and we already know there will be a tie in episode so wonder if they were laying some ground work for a future episode?

I also really liked seeing the academy, hope we get to see more of it again.

I loved the ending for the episode, it was very bleak, with the student dying and the other guy having developed powers now. It felt like the student dying upped the stakes of the show a bit, it felt less wrapped up in 40 mins and everyones more or less sorted their problem.

The music in the episode was also fantastic, they made a big announcement when they hired the music supervisor, but the music hasn't been particularly stand out, but this episode was excellent for music.

Very impressed with this episode, so, more like this please!

I'm not even going to jump into the speculation of who Skye is - we really have no clue quite yet, but my favorite theory out there is that she's one of The Runaways.

This was a really good episode - I'm not sure if I liked it more than FZZT, though that episode really had a leg up in that it's Simmons and I discovered that I like her a lot more than I had expected to.

This episode, however, is about Skye for the most part, and I basically knew I was going to love Skye from the moment I read the casting call. Despite that, I get how a lot of people found her annoying, but even considering all of that, her story went in a much more interesting direction here than I had expected. I had no idea what they could do to make her background thing worth it, but this definitely worked. The best thing I can probably say about it is that I didn't see this coming at all. I'm hoping that this works for the people who don't like Skye so far - it's a much different direction than I expected them to go with her story, and I think most of people's problems with her came from the predictable direction that she's been going in so far.

What this is really showing me is that I don't know how to process TV shows when watching them as they're going on. I'm used to watching shows all the way through then talking about them later - I'm never sure what to grab on to other than the obviously major things while they're still going on. Comes with being someone who almost never watches shows as they air, I guess.
