OMFG!!!

Okay, this was a lot to handle and will definitely require at least 1 more viewing before next weeks episode.

The tie in to Captain America was excellent, wasn't too in your face, it just happened in the background and naturally played out into our characters.

Victoria Hands ruthless approach to taking down SHIELD agents had me totally believing she was HYDRA, when she "confessed" to Simmons, I was shocked about how they didn't play it out in a big dramatic twist, then they smacked me with that twist!

At first I was kinda looking forward to Hand being the bad guy for the rest of the season.
THEN THEY KILL HER!!! I mean she has a big enough role in the comics right? It seems crazy to kill off someone like that since it removes her from the Marvel cinemaverse, so I didn't see it coming at all.

What was a little disjointed was that Captain America made it seem like Agent 13 and Maria Hill just walked on out of the building, yet SHIELD is still going to keep on going and there's still a power struggle within what remains of SHIELD.

Okay Garret being the clairvoyant was also pretty damn shocking, I totally thought he was Hydra when he wanted Hand killed straight away no questions asked but wasn't expecting him to be the clairvoyant, I still think it's gonna be connected to Zola, he wouldn't have the clearance for all the information he had would he?

I totally fell for every misdirect in this episode, anyone else think Simmons was a double agent? That line about her getting better at lying, and the camera always held on her for an extra beat at moments like when Hand was saying "they make us like them", I felt they were totally setting Simmons up as the double.

I thought Ward was gonna die, the moment he had the 'lets make plans' talk with Skye, I knew it was over, but I didn't jump to double agent! I don't know why it seems so obvious now! But I immediately assumed he would die!

Mays "double agent" story was exactly what I thought it was going to be, so I was just willing them to move on and realise what I already knew, lol.

Iain De Caestecker (Fitz) was fantastic in this episode! Fitx had some really great moments in this episode, like when he was locked in the room and scared and when he was crying later in the episode. I love Fitz.

I will probably add more to this when I rewatch, but this was so so so good. If you're not watching this series you're stupid. 😉

I loved the little refernce to Fitz making that laser thing that Fury and Hill used in CA. I thought that was nicely done.

I'm still not convinced we have seen the last turn of the Ward twists. He and Coulson had this look as he walked into the carrier to take him and Hand to The Fridge. I can't decide of it was Coulson being suspicious or Coulson and Ward sharing a knowing... something!

Was anything Ward said true? Any of his interactions? That's what's going to eat away at all of them, especially Skye.

I got the impression from CA that Hill went to Stark a bit after the climax of the battle. I think the real time experience of the downfall that we are getting on Shield is not necessarily out of sync with what happened in CA. Plus, Hill and Fury have been announced as being in upcoming episodes, so I think we'll get some explanation.

Yes that was great! The weapon was so random in CA, it was cool to give it a backstory.

I hope it was all a lie, if they go down the Skyke pulls him back route it will be a bit cliched, plus unlike BtVS where we built up a sense of caring for characters before they killed people, Ward has only been around for 17 episodes and he's killed 1 mainish character.

Though I guess the truth serum Coulson gave him in episode 1 was lie like he told Skye, he'd have probably been more worried, and if they did have truth serum presumably SHIELD wouldn't have gotten into such a mess.

I only just read the news Hill was gonna be back, and since they are going with a story about how Coulson wants to stick it out and save SHIELD and Hill wants to move on, it actually all makes sense.

No, you're right. There's no way Coulson would OK that, not after everything and especially not after the speech he had just given to Garret about saving Shield's soul.

That will be a very, very personal thing for her. She'll want to kill him. She'll want to fire herself. It's going to be a mess.

I don't think that can work because we really barely know these characters. Ward turning feels nothing like Angel losing his soul. The cost is nowhere near as steep for any of the characters. Pride, loyalty and an unspoken code, but nothing to what it meant in BTVS.

I seem to be in the minority: but I was underwhelmed, I don't know if I'm too familiar with film/tv/narratives in general, but I saw every single twist coming a mile off, so the big build ups were just boring for me, as it was obvious what was coming. They could have signposted most of the twists they were so obvious.

And for whatever reason, this show just hasn't got me to care about any of the characters, with the exception of May and Hand to a certain extent, and some residual love of Coulson from the films, but otherwise they could have shot that plane down and I wouldn't have cared too much.

 

[FuzzyHandcuffs]

This episode was so intense and a great change of 'bad-guy-must-go-kill-them-yay-we-win-theme' that has been going on all season with this show. I had been gunning for Skye and Ward to make some sort of move on each other it was almost painful. I LOVE Ward and the ending of this episode made me crazy. I didn't see the double agent thing coming at all. He was so stoic the entire time.

I loved Fitz in this episode as well. He was fantastic when he shot one of the Hydra people from under the table and before that crying with no shame. He is so loyal and amazing to Simmons.

I also did not see it coming with Garrett at all. He was Mr. Good Guy with Colson the entire time. And then the drones... I was caught completely off guard when it was revealed that he was the clairvoyant.

I'm excited for the next episode. Should be a good one.

I think I was frozen for a good five minutes in front of my screen at the end of the episode. That was one MAJOR turn of event.

If I ever doubted Joss' genius (or the writers'), I have none anymore. That was one epic episode and I am still freaking out over it (watched it Friday). Not sure I'm ready yet for this week's episode.
