Disney has rehired James Gunn to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3

Is it weird that I loved Telltale's Guardians of the Galaxy but haven't seen the movies? R.I.P. Telltale 🙁
 
Gunn's supposed morals and tasteless statements notwithstanding, I think that hiring him back was the right choice, if for no other reason that the Guardians trilogy was his vision, his story, and his project from the beginning. If things go the same with the Guardians as they have with all of the other Marvel franchises, this will be the last time that we will see the team in their own standalone feature, so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to mess with the winning formuls this late in the game.
 
Didn't see this one coming. Its good news for me. Might not see the film for about 5 years because of his involvement in Suicide Squad 2.
 
It's sad that Disney rehired him. People are applauding Disney for this and it's just pathetic.

Right. They were reactionary thinking they would be praised for firing him and they weren't. So they let the ruckus die down and hire him back and now they are being heralded as doing it for the fans, etc. I would have had more respect if they stuck to their guns (pardon the pun) and didn't hire him back. They only hired him back because NO ONE ELSE wanted to take the job.

Word is they never even looked for anyone else, which is interesting....

They didn't do this for fans. I mean why would they, they want to make money and they know most fans would have seen GoTG3 regardless but they knew rehiring James Gunn would generate more "goodwill" and make it seem like they did it for the fans, but truthfully I believe they realised they made a mistake and then realised they could seriously profit off of it..... and they will.

I think this is part of the reason why they purportedly never even looked for a replacement.

But hey, I'm happy about this, I just know as with all stuff like this, it's a business decision and not because of any fan backlash or reaction.

That's because everyone they were talking about looking at said they had no interest. I know for a fact they asked Adam McKay. I thought they asked others too. But the biggest names declined before being asked.
