Disney severs ties with James Gunn

Dave Bautista, who plays Drax, said (emphasis mine) via twitter:

"I will do what Im legally obligated to do but @Guardians without @JamesGunn is not what I signed up for. GOTG w/o @JamesGunn just isn’t GOTG. Its also pretty nauseating to work for someone who’d empower a smear campaign by fascists"

I wonder if Drax is going to now meet an untimely death in the upcoming movie now that he's nauseated working with Disney.

I think they will fulfill mutual contracts and part "amicably"..... whether that's by a death onscreen or not, I can't see Disney choosing to renew anything with him after him blasting their ridiculous decision....

You've got to respect Dave Bautista for sticking to his Gunns on this, though.

I can appreciate that a guy who cheated on his cancer stricken wife, and blamed it on the fact that she wouldn't give him sex as often as he wanted it because of chemo and who used to get women demoted (kill the pushes of women...as he called it) if they said no to sex him...that he's now trying to act like he has any higher morality than Disney. Go Dave...or best be careful before those juicy parts of your past become fodder for what you call cybernazis.

I think that Bautista said somewhere recently, before all this stuff with James Gunn starter, that "Guardians 3" would be his last one anyway, which doesn't seem to me to be much of a shock. The entire MCU franchise seems to be set in trilogies for each character, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Avengers each getting their three movies, then either ending, as Cap and Iron Man are expected to, or changing cast members. Avengers 4 is supposed to be the crossover point into the next set of trilogies with the introduction of Captain Marvel, and the expected trilogies for Black Widow, the Winter Soldier, and whatever new characters Disney decides to introduce. Of course, with the aquiring of Fox, and its additional Marvel characters, the whole trilogy system may be abandoned completely. The real problem for the MCU in the future may be deciding which dozen or so characters they are going to include in the next epic. No more lone wolf super heroes, all just teams, armies, or mobs of assorted spandex clad warriors.
