Disney's very own streaming service finally has a name and unlike the speculation thus far, it is not "Disney Play." No, the name of the service will actually be "Disney+" the company confirmed today in an official press release.

Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed the name during a webcast meant to discuss the corporation's financial results from the last fiscal year, as well as the fourth quarter. He also said that Disney+ will launch in late 2019, which gives other streamers like Netflix and Hulu enough time to get their affairs in order.

In addition to all of the Disney movies and TV shows you know and love, Disney+ will be full of original content like Cassian Andor spinoff Star Wars series with Diego Luna and a show based around the MCU's Loki starring Tom Hiddelston.

Other TV projects include: Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian; a show set in the world of Pixar's Monsters Inc.; and a limited series about Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) Falcon (Anthony Mackie).

Movies are also in the works, including Don Quixote, Lady and the Tramp, The Paper Magician, Stargirl, Togo, Magic Camp, 3 Men and a Baby, Sword and the Stone, and Timmy Failure.

Deborah Chow (Marvel’s Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) are some of the directors currently working on Disney+ projects.

think Disney Play was a better name
Smart move from Disney going into streaming they certainly have the library for it. Whether it can go head to head with Netflix and the others remains to be seen.

Isn't that subjective though? There will be some people whose interests it will match.

But that's another reason why I like Netflix's model because it has a bit of everything and caters to just about all tastes.

It's not that it won't match anyone's interests. It's that it will match a bit of someones interest. You'll want to pay Disney for shows A & B, Netflix for C & D and Amazon for show E. Before you realise it you're spending a fortune on TV that otherwise would have been broadcast eventually for free somewhere else.

But that's why regular TV/Cable channels have to up their game. We are finally seeing the BBC engage with the boxset era. Also, its about value for money. I know everyone doesn't agree with this but I think Netflix is great value for money. I also have the WWE Network. For £9.99 a month I get every WWF/E PPV, every NWA/WCW PPV, every ECW PPV, all the TV shows and lots of specials. So its about picking and choosing.
 
Look, I'm interested in seeing more Tom Hiddleston just as much as the next person but I already have all the other streaming services and I pay for that privilege already. My main worry is that Disney's monopoly on existing content will mean that their service is the only place you can exclusively see their stuff in future, even though it's been available on other services up til now.

I mean, they own a hell of a lot. Just the Disney back catalogue alone is extensive...!!

That's exactly what they are going to do. That's why other streaming services are scared. All they have to do is pull their content from other sites and

I like the name Disney+ better than Disney Play, made me think of Google Play.

I wonder who their main customers will be...parents with little kids? Or adults?
