Soon those first person shooters you are playing you will be able to smell the gunpower, smell the.. whatever else you can smell.

"ScentScapeâ„¢ is an innovative digital scent delivery system which provides the extra dimension of scent to gaming, entertainment and other consumer markets. Scent Sciences' technologies enriches the user experience by layering scents to enhance immersion and presence with unique delivery hardware, software and services.

Simply connect the Plug-N-Play unit to any compatible PC or gaming console for an instant experience of sight, sound and smell. Using the ScentScape™ digital scent delivery system, the ScentEditor® is an easy to use application which provides the tools to add scent during the editing process of home videos. In the gaming environment, synched with the action, scent-enabled media directs the release of ScentScape™ scents providing background scents such as pine forest or ocean and from more scene related scents such as flowers and smoke to games or entertainment media. Imagine "Avatar" audiences whose first experience with the Pandora biosphere is tinged with a unique scent "color", who smell the Na'vi coming before they're visible, and where Neytri has an especially pleasing version of the Na'vi scent. The addition of these scents adds a uniquely immersive experience."

Wow... That's interesting. Video game companies are really trying hard to make gaming as realistic an experience as possible, huh? I bet if all those people playing CoD could smell the blood and carnage, they wouldn't want to play as badly. LOL

Huh. I suppose that'll be the end of zombie games, right?

I don't quite get how "digital smell" is supposed to work... wouldn't they need some kind of (refillable?) chemicals to produce odor, or is my science totally off?

Click the link.. you have 'scent packs' not just for games, talking about for home video as well.

This is gross. I don't want to smell the dirty water in tunnels and what not when I play future Resident Evil games etc.

Eh, really? I'm STILL vowed by the graphics of most of nowadays' games, now they need to pile even more on top of that? Why?! I can easily see this as a way to make you miss noticing the game you're playing actually isn't all that good. Much like very good graphics.

Exactly. LOL I was telling some friends I went out for dinner with last night about this, and we all agreed it's a little icky, especially when you think about how many games involve dirty streets, blood, and gore. Bluh.

But it's not just games.. its movies as well. Imagine next time you're watching Buffy™ and you see (insert your vampire of choice) you could actually smell the evil undead goodness!!

I imagined that... And no thanks, I don't really want to smell nasty dead skin. LOL

It sure gives new meaning to "don't watch that movie, it's a total stinker!". 😛

Also, another thought... I've just spoken to my sis on the phone, and it reminds me how she's allergic to tons of chemical additives (she spent years finding cosmetics, deodorants etc. that wouldn't make her skin break out in rashes). I guess for peeps like her, that system could provide oodles of fun... NOT.
