I saw 'The Hills Have Eyes' tonight. All I can say is do not see it. Unless you have a certain disconnection with your emotions. The movie was horrible. It had two rape scenes, involving a 13-year-old girl and her 21-year-old sister, which all together was about 20 minutes of the movie. It had four different animal cruelty scenes, including puppies being cut open and eaten, pigs being chopped into pieces, and birds getting their head chewed off. It poked fun at two teenager children watching their mother and father being murdered.

I am a horror movie addict, and I can not recommend this movie to anyone! Ok. If the rape of the two girls was important to the plot than so be it, but the the scene did not have to be 20 minutes long. Imagine sitting in a movie theater watching two young women raped for 20 minutes. How sick is that? Then see a puppy gutten on screen and then eaten. Birds getting their head chewed off while still alive and then they drink the blood. The two parents are killed in front of the parents and then the movie pokes fun at it like it wouldn't be a big deal.

There are even two scenes in the movie where a 4-month-old infant is battered.

Not to mention the "let's go home," ending was completely stupid and out of place.

DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE AT ALL COSTS!

I've heard this from quite a few people, and I plan on taking the advice. I'm not going to see this movie anytime soon. I love horror movies, I think Saw II is pretty much genius. Sick and twisted, yes, but the story behind it is so well written and so well thought out. However, this movie just looks sickening, disturbing, and pointless. Not something I care to waste my money on to go see. Did anyone here who saw it like this movie, cause everyone I heard who saw it told me NOT to go see it.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! That movie sounds so horrible isn't it like illegal to show animal cruelty like that I mean it's seriously disturbing just reading how you described the movie. If it's really like that I don't think the movie should have been made.

It's rated R so I guess that's how they justify it.

I seriously almost walked out of the theater numours times.

I wouldn't have blamed you!
I haven't seen the original or this one yet, but from your discription I don't think I will be going to see it. I love my horror flicks, but this sounds like the type of film that you sit through wishing it would hurry up and finish.

Thanks for the warning.

I watched this last night. I really didnt like it. Hoever, your post Hero makes it sound a lot worse than it was. (if thats possible, cos it was really bad.)

For a start, the girls were not 13 and 21. They were at least 17 and mid to late 20s.

It did not poke fun at the kids watching their parents get killed. It was taken completely serious. You wanna see someone poke fun at murder like that, watch The Devils Rejects or House of 1000 corpses.

Also (not that it makes it any better, but the dogs were not puppies) They were full grown alsations. And what happened to one of them was not as bad as you make it sound.

And as far as I know the baby was never harmed at all.

As for the rape scene, yeah it was horrific. However, im sure theres a lot worse out there. And as for it being important to the plot, Id say it was. It did the job didnt it. Got you shocked. The point was to show how evil these guys were. The fact that they were still human they could only do so much. Ive seen movie full of torture and such (Saw 1 and 2 for example) and that seems to be accepted.
They had to justify Emilie being that scared but not kill her. Theres only so much you can do in the confines of a trailer

Dont get me wrong. I was severely disturbed by this film. But what Im saying is, theres a lot worse ut there that are excepted. No questions asked.

For example, I found Wolf Creek so much worse than this movie.

I didn't mind it, granted its not gonna be on my fave movie list, but its like you said, not as bad as some people are making out!

Ahhhh, Rob Zombie...gotta love him.

I found Cabin Fever to be the most pointless disgusting movie ever...so im believing there may be worse but ive never seen THHE and dont plan on it anyway...
Its a revised story based on a Wes Craven movie. I saw this movie a couple of nights ago, and yes, i found certain aspects horrifying enough to turn away, but all the parts were integral to the over all story.

This movie, i recommend to everyone who is a)Old enough, b)able to appreciate what a story is trying to convey, go see this movie, or wait for DVD release, then you can make up your mind, as Wolf pointed out, this opening description is not accurate, its been tweaked to make it seem worse, or Hero has not actually understood what he has seen.

It's rated R so I guess that's how they justify it.

I seriously almost walked out of the theater numours times.

But you didn't. If it was a 'bad' as you perceived then walking out should have been the first thing you did.

You want far more harrowing films, see 'Cannibal Holocaust', 'Cannibal Ferox' or a personal fave of mine, the depraved 'I Spit On Your Grave' where a woman is brutally gang raped.
These films were banned they were that extreme.
Also, add 'Clockwork Orange', some of the most shocking scenes in a movie.
'The Hills have Eyes' original too, in comparison to these movies, this new movie is rather tame in comparison.

I want to see it, but am soo waiting for the DVD to come out, cause this seems like something i shouldn't watch alone!
IFor a start, the girls were not 13 and 21. They were at least 17 and mid to late 20s.

Ok so that makes them being raped for like 20 minutes ok?

It did not poke fun at the kids watching their parents get killed. It was taken completely serious.

I thought it did. Remember the scene where they loaded the mother and sister into the back of the truck? The bodies were in there and then they just vanished. For some reason it seemed to me like they were making a joke out of the bodies, not so much the kids themselves.

They were full grown alsations. And what happened to one of them was not as bad as you make it sound.

The one dog was gutted open, though I didn't watch most of it because I don't like that stuff at all. Then they even show one of the killers sitting on top of a rock tearing off one of its legs and eating it.

And as far as I know the baby was never harmed at all.

There was one scene towards the end where the baby got hit. I think the little girl's name was Ruby, right? Well we'll call her that even if its not. LOL. Anyway. When she was running away with the baby because she didn't want the leader killer guy to kill it. They were up on that cliff and she was going to give the baby back to the Dead. When the killer jumped down he clearly hit the baby, probably trying to grap it. Plus, it doesn't count as battery, but the gun being held to the baby's head is kind of rough.

As for the rape scene, yeah it was horrific. However, im sure theres a lot worse out there. And as for it being important to the plot, Id say it was.

Oh yeah. I guess you're right. If they were just like mean and threatning them by standing outside, I guess no one would have been scared. So, yeah I guess it was important to the plot becuause it did get the point across.

Anyway, last night after the movie I did go out drinking with some buddies. So, I guess that's where the over exageration came in, but what I said did happen in the movie, and I still wouldn't reccomend it. DDLM recommended I see other terrible movies, but that's just not my thing. I still don't think anyone should go see this movie. That's my opinion, and if someone doesn't like it... oh well.

Why, that comment was in no way meant to be derogatory, nor is the new one, its based on my knowledge of that Genre!!!

I like horror movies that have a story. But as a person I'm to appalled by rape to see a movie no matter how good of a story it has, if it has a scene like that. It's just not something I want to watch.

BUT if you only see the hollywood tripe thats released, you really can't call yourself a 'Horror movie addict', and you surely cannot judge a movie in the genre if you haven't truly experienced the extremes of said genre.
Some of the best movies in this area never seen the cinema screen, because the people who pay for that would never allow this, where as the lower budget ones, financed by the people making them allow for the people to delve deeper into the genre.

Wes Craven is a master at what he does, but even he has limitations of what he can purvey because of financiers.......seriously, you want to understand this genre, you should see the movies i mentioned plus like a thousand others. If its 'not your thing' to see the defining movies of this genre, then i hear Disney has a new movie for you!

Oh shut up, wise ass. LOL. I can still be a horror movie fan. I just don't like seeing women raped and animal cruelty. I just don't. It doesn't mean I'm not an avid horror movie fan, because I am. It's just that I am not a fan of those particular movies.

you can be a hollywood horror movie fan then! lol...not much fro that stuff myself so i agree with you
But none of the movies i have suggested have Animal Cruelty, and lets be honest, even when it does, they are fake animals.
Rape is a staple of Horror movies, granted its not always of a sexual nature, but that is generally the subtext.

Check your, PM's. I sent you something there. BB won't let me rep you anymore. lol

I haven't seen this movie. I'm not going to see it, nevertheless I object. 🙂 Not to the movie. I object to comparing it to Clockwork Orange. What's next a comparison to Citizen Kane? To me there's two entirely different thought processes involved in watching a film like this compared to watching something like Clockwork Orange.

Hey explain something to me. What's the attraction to slasher films? I mean I know people who watch them aren't rapists, or dog-eaters, so what do they get out of watching that stuff? It isn't like there's insight into the deeper nature of man or something. It's just people raping and eating dogs.

Clockwork Orange is awesome!

Some are stupid and pointless...however some do have meaning...look past the brutality and violence of saw II for example and there really is insight to why some people do the things they do
Who compared them?

The ultra Violent scenes in that movie are some of the most shocking put on celluloid, but i never compared them and as i'm the one who mentioned it, obviously that comment was towards me.

I suggested that you compare the violence of this movie with ALL the ones i named, including the original, so you really have nothing to takle offence to.

There is an adrenaline rush when the movie mixes the horror and a good story.
I don't go for simple shock value, i love to be entertained by the actual story, and alot of these movies take a topic and make it the subtext for a scene, you see what is actually meant as opposed to whats on Screen.
Buffy does this alot, but in a different way.

I think I see what you mean. Can you give me an example of subtext in a horror film, so I get it better.

Edit:

Oh wait, I think I can do this one by myself. You mean like in CHUD, you can see the underground monsters as the buried, unspoken, unseen horrors lurking beneath the city as something also dealt with in a real world sense, then deal with the emotional reaction in a safe environment. Is that why people like slashers?

I'll give any movie a go, because of what the message could be, but if its JUST slasher, just the kill, i have no time for it
Well, a Japanese Movie i watched a few days ago on some ghastly channel, there was a scene in which a random man was raping a woman. It was brutal. There was violence of all kinds, she was left for dead.
To the causal observer it was simply this woman in the wrong place at the wrong time.
BUT if you study the scene fuller.
This woman, a mildly successful business woman, had the experience to climb the corporate ladder, but not the strength.
The rapist was in an expensive suit, caught her in an expensive car, even had a team of Lawyers that made the case fall through. This was a comment on how woman lose power in the business world, how as long as business stays as such, then a woman will never better a man.

Then it went very Japanese, she called a demon forth, who went around killing anyone percieved as a threat, even though she diodnt mean for that...then in a stand off, beat the beast back with a Talisman, started her life again, then in the finale, after all this, she realised the depths of what she had done.
Final twist, the rapist came back, and screwed her over once more, not physically this time, bought the company she worked for and fired her.....

Thanks. I think I'm starting to get this.

sometimes you have to look past what is simply on the screen to see the meaning behind the violence

no, that is why I like them...most people are sick and like them for the adrenaline rush
