Do reality shows really depress anyone else?

Reality shows depress me a lot whenever I see one on. Not because of the people on it but because my family, as well as other people, are actually stupid enough to watch that crap. I've never watched Jersey Shore or the other shows mentioned, but even just contest shows like Survivor or American Idol just seem, and I think they are, very scripted. The people on those shows always say things that no "real" person would ever say. Like how every person says how their lives are changed because they were on like one episode of Survivor or some other show. Really? Never been camping in your life? Ridiculous...

reality shows are the worse kind of TV, they're as you said depressing. And its boring and fake, i watch TV to get away from those kind of people.

My opinion exactly. I've seen some reality shows like The Jersey Shore and Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and most of the time their drama is ridiculous and they're very trashy.

Also, the only reality show I watch and like alot is E's Fashion Police, Hosted by Joan Rivers, because it's funny and it's interesting to see the latest celebrity styles on the red carpet and it's not like The Kardashians or Teen Mom.

But to answer your question, reality shows with drama and trashy stuff do make me annoyed and depressed. Especially since they're on instead of well written and unique non-reality shows like Happytown, which is also depressing.

I hate reality shows. When I watch tv(very rarely in the last few years) I wanna move away from the *real* world, use my imagination, not watch a bunch of girls bitching at each other, or guys hitting on everything that moves.

No offense meant to the people liking these kind of shows, but I just don't watch tv for that kind of 'entertainment'.

The Fab 5 were just crazy especially Alia and Boston... But I loved the Ambers more than words can describe. Particularly Amber M.

Question: what do you like about season 4.... it annoyed me

I think they had the most likeable cast. Flo, while needing mad anger management help, was real and was pretty tough. Natalie was fun to laugh at because she thought she was sooo famous and so hot, but looked like Jay Leno. Lexie was just a big ball of fun - loved her. Amber was by far my favorite. She was the realest, and was pretty much responsible for sendin each Bad Girl home except Portia. She broke Flo's ankle, beat Natalie down and wooped Natalie's ass (with an assisant from Lexie.) Portia was great too, I was sad to see her go even though it was worth it watching her woop Natalie's ass. (Realizing now she got beat down a lot, didnt she?) Kate and Annie were just..there.

Flo was just insane. Natalie was annoying and ridiculous. I firmly believe she didn't think she was so hot and famous (well so famous anyway) but she said it for attention. Amber was awful. When she broke Flo's ankle I couldn't believe that she got to make the decision if Flo left of not. I mean, Flo was insane... but still... Annie was my favorite. Some people say she wasn't bad... but she was smart and I loved her.

yea but how is that 'bad'? a bad girl would have swung back.

Annie aint do nothing! lol She was an "extra" as they called it lol. All she did was put weight gaining powder in Kate's drink. When she got drinks thrown on her and punched in the face she just sat there. How is that bad? I got Amber's back! Don't disrespect my girl! lmfao Season 1 def had the weakest girls though. I remember...the girl wit the nose trying to fight Tye and I was like oh jesus...

Annie called the cops on Kate when she hit her. That's my girl. season 1 was not the best. I agree.
Sometimes I'll be bored and watch Survivor online and the last ep I saw had some chick talking about how she was going to knock down some chick with one leg. You can't even get through an episode of Hell's kitchen with listening to each of them get 15 minutes to talk about how amazing they are and how horrible everyone else is. I honestly don't understand the stuff like Bad Girls club or most of MTV's stuff. I don't see anything redeming about any of them. These are just rotten people. It's embarrassing.

I think the reality concept is getting really old.
I watched a couple of things when it was still a fairly new concept, but nowadays it seems like every non-fictional show has been drenched in the reality tv format (lets cast charicatures instead of people, put them in an irrealistic environment, poke them with sticks and hope for drama).

I'd say I do not watch any reality shows, but frankly it's had not to watch nowadays if you do not want to look at fiction only.
So I still watch a couple of things I find enjoyable, and skip over the reality bits 😛
For example, I just enjoyed wtaching the 2nd Dutch/Belgian season of So you think you can dance, but I skipped over everything but the choreo's =3
Or project runway, to look at the stuff those designers come up with each week.

I miss good old gameshows XD

Tv in general depresses me lately...

there's very rarely a good series or show on... it just seems that all the good ideas have been done and all they're doing is rehashing old ideas and making them even worse...

I can think of 2 actually inventive / original shows as the moment, and that's it...

Reality shows make me want to gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon, and those 'competition shows' like X-factor and Britain's Got Talent... oh dear god... gag me with a spoon...

Anything on TV having to do with that rancid Tyra Banks is depressing.

Angel.....cancelled. Firefly.....cancelled.

"America's Top Model"......multiple seasons?? Are you frelling kidding me??

Hey, there's worse reality TV than the "Next Top Model" stuff. After all, the 2nd season in Germany gave us this gorgeous lady (yes, she won in the end... and boy did I have a crush on her!):

Oh my god yes... lmao!!
I've ended up in front of her shows and it's like a train wreck, after five minutes you have to turn it off because man, she needs to get over herself ASAP. She is not qualified to talk to people with problems the way she does to start...

And for Ms. Bank's people I'd like to add that they should teach her the meaning of the word "prehistoric" ... to save her some shame when she's on national TV...

The worst thing on TV right now is anything to do with Ice Road Truckers. I could understand it being on something other then the history channel...But can anyone tell me what they are learning from that show?

I might not like Pawn Stars but at least that has a little bit of a history lesson in it.

I LOVE BAD GIRLS CLUB. <333333333333

God, Season 4 was THE BEST. HANDS DOWN. I'm sorry, I don't get the love for Season 2. It was okay, but I wouldn't watch it like I would 4 or 5.

Season 3 was okay as well. Couldn't stand Aliea. Love Tiffany <3 fellow Aries. The Ambers <3

Ashley was hottttttttt. But I can't remember much about her - she was just another face really.

Season 4 - FLO IS MY BITCH. Love her. None of those girls wanted to step to her, even with a cast on. Bullshit that Amber got to decide if she went home - weak sauce bitch!

Couldn't stand Natalie, but she's okay to me now. She's just ridiculous. Amber .. lol, weak sauce. Happy for her now, but I still can't like someone like her. Annie, even weaker sauce. Lexie was gross. Kendra is flat out NASTY. And I still like Kate, and Portia.

Season 5 .. oh boy. I loved Lea at first, but then I always felt "ew" about her boyfriend/mistress situation. Completely changed when she became friends with Kristen and couldn't forgive Brandi - but it seems that is how she is, once burned she tosses them out and doesn't forgive (Brandi/Kristen, though Brandi and her are okay now).

I liked Kristen, but can't stand her fake voice/mannerisms. She was bad and really didn't have to try hard like Erica/Ashley in the last episode when they FINALLY decided with three days left to show up.

Brandi was a favorite, but then Christina came, and she took shit over. And Ashley was not a SMART BAD GIRL. There is no game. You're fake or you're not, and she proved to be a fake.

Oh yes, there were others right? Erica.. slept all day and ****ed. Looked nasty, and petty. Fake as hell too. She acted like she never talked bad about Lea her new friend, and Kristen - she did plenty at both. Danielle, she was alright, but I laughed at her freakout over Brandi hitting a low blow (when she hit first). Kayleigh .. yeah, you are a puppy. She's currently all over Lea and being her BFFFFFFF <3 /sarcasm

Cat left WAY too soon as did Morgan. Had Morgan stayed, it would have not been THE LEA SHOW. Blondie/Cat/Morgan would've reigned over that house.

I'M DYING FOR SEASON 6 TO START. January 10! I.CAN'T.WAIT!

BAD GIRLS KARMA!!!! I have similar opinions about Lea But I hated Brani more than anything ever. And I can't WAIT for season 6!!!!!
When Big Brother FIRST started in the UK, I thought it was a great concept. I really loved the pyschological/sociological element of it all; sticking a bunch of people together and watching human nature unfold. Then it became about shamelessly encouraging people to have sex on TV, to bully each other and about finding as many 'weird' people as you could in order to exploit them for profit. And when the UK series backfired and they ended up with overt racist bullying, they had no idea how to deal with it and failed miserably to do so.

I also agree that its beyond ridiculous how many of them there are and how many get the go ahead. What saddens me most is the number of viewers they get. Says a lot about the world we live in and that depresses me.

My most recent grumble with reality shows was with X Factor in particular. For one, its quite clearly a fix. Yet every week my FB blows up with people saying it's a fix and its this and it's that. Great, then STOP WATCHING IT. Don't continue to make them money and be happy to have the wool pulled over your eyes. But that still does not infuriate me as much as seeing something about it on the front page of the newspaper EVERY SINGLE DAY. Seriously, think about the world around you, X Factor is not an issue. And people still wonder why kids don't know anything about...anything? It drives me NUTS - which I think you'd struggle to see considering how well I've controlled myself in this post. 😛 😉

I *so* agree
I kind of like to tune in & out of reality shows because I like to watch them for the drama. I'm like ooo... here comes the trainwreck that you can't look away or change the channel for. Hahaa.

The Real Housewives Of (Insert city or suburb here). Those are another big, fat "WHY??!!"

Rich putas with attitude problems. Boy, THERE'S some great TV viewing right there. (sarcasm....it's what's for dinner).

It's not the shows themselves that get me. It's the people. The shows usually try to throw every demoghaphic they can in there, but the people are always so mean and rude, and just horrible human beings...and that's just all of them. It's just depressing to me. Anyone else?

I guess there are "fun" reality shows (Housewives, Top Model) and ones that showcase the "losers" of life.

I have a doctorate degree. I was blessed with a brain, and without drug abusing parents. I was never sexually abused. I had a chance to succeed and I did. I am very lucky.

I have not had TV for years, but when I see Jerry Springer or Reality Shows, I feel so sorry for these people. As a lawyer who has assisted many victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, I can tell you that some of my clients NEVER get over it. The are not lucky. They never have a chance. And the fact they haven't committed suicide is shocking. There is nothing nice about parading someone who is so emotionally scarred that they can't function and then making fun of them on TV.

Great god... Larry Springer. I don't know where to start. The first time I saw a clip from the JS Show, years ago, I thought it was an over-the-top parody from some raunchy comedy movie. I was shocked when I found out they're actually doing this show for real. :jawdrop:
