Do the Actors buy the Comics?

I was thinking the other day that if I was Sarah or Anthony or Nick or Alyson, I would be very curious how an artist would portait me as a comic book character. If I were them, I would have a subscription to Dark Horse comics. ;-)

What do you think: Do you think the actors buy the comics or do they just move on to the next acting project?

I've read (maybe around here somewhere) that Alyson was shown a Buffy 8 comic and didn't recognize which character was Willow at first. Or she thought Willow was supposed to be Buffy, or something. Same with ASH - Joss showed him the comic, thinks it's cool.

I know that in some cases, Dark Horse is required to get approval from the actors on their likenesses.

I know SMG had to sign off on her likeness for the original Jo Chen cover. Its in a few of the actor's contracts.
I would think that with Ripper coming up, ASH has to read the materials. But other then that, I'm afraid the actors probably move on.

If anyone reads them, my money would be on Amber, because she's written comics herself. Or maybe Seth or James just cause they're cool.

Haha yeah probably. Sarah mighthave one since she needed to give Dark Horse permission to use her face, but I doubt she has given it much thought. Although, she may surprise us one day. After all, Joss loves her, shouldn't we.

One would hope that they get given freebies out of courtesy 🙂

I would imagine they DO read them.
If anything, I would guess SMG might be the only one who might not and only because she seems to enjoy actively distancing herself from the show.

But, I couldn't imagine being part of a story for 7 years and NOT caring at all where that character went. I bet they do get free ones. Surely they HAVE them, even if they haven't read them all yet. One would imagine you'd at least want to have them to browse through if you got some spare time just out of curiousity.

I noticed on all the "special features" they seemed to refer to the characters, even their own characters as if they were real people. I'd imagine they're at least curious as to what is going on. And, EVERYONE seems to love Joss, I'd guess they'd have a copy or two just for him.

I think they read them. They probably get them sent to them every month anyways, even if they didn't ask for them. But I know that I would want to know what "I" was doing. I of course mean 'my character.' So yup, uh huh, they probably do read 'em.

i think they do too!
Here's the exact quote goldenboy was reffering to.

iF: Have you seen the BUFFY Season Eight comics?

HANNIGAN: My friend Tom Lenk [who played Andrew on BUFFY] has brought them to my house, so I have flipped through them, but I haven’t sat down and read them yet. I’m saving that for a nice Sunday day.

iF: How do you feel about learning about Willow’s further adventures from comics?

HANNIGAN: I’m a little nervous, probably. You know, when I first went through them with [Lenk], I was like, ‘Well, who’s that?’ He hadn’t read them all either, and he said, ‘I think that’s you.’ I said, ‘Why am I so big? That’s not me, that’s Dawn! She’s a giant. I don’t know what’s going on.’ Joss had emailed me months and months before they ever came out, and he had emailed me the one where I was on the cover, or Willow was on the cover, and I was, ‘Wow, that’s a really cool drawing – I have no idea who that is or where he’s going, but awesome!’ And then I talked to him, and he said, ‘That’s Willow.’ I’m like, ‘Awesome! She’s done very good things to her body in the last year [laughs].’

I'd like to think that they all do read them, that they care as much as we do but honestly I think it's a bit hopeful on our part. I remember David Boreanaz saying on a radio show that he had no idea what was happeneing on Buffy since he left. I couldn't believe he didn't watch it. I suppose at the end of the day that it's their job and maybe it really doesn't mean as much to them as it does to us.
