Do women date men that are less attractive than them?

Not all hot male celebrities have hot wives. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is married to director Sam Taylor-Johnson and she's a bit older than him and not good looking. But I think he's so hot. Lol.

I've dated hot guys and not so hot guys that I was still attracted to. What I can say is that looks don't matter when it comes to personality. Some hot guys are complete jerks and others are really sweet and humble. Some not so hot guys are sweet and actually a lot are jerks. Preferably I would choose the hot guy that is also sweet. I'm a bit more on the shallow side though. That's another thing, some people are just more attracted to the physicality of a person and some are more attracted to the intellectual or emotional or spiritual side of a person.

Other hot men! Seriously a lot of hot guys are gay. Get do dad when I meet a hot guy only to find out he's gay! Taking away all the hot guys! Lol.

That is true. You want a guy that can take care of his looks, dresses nice, takes care of his hygiene, but you don't want a guy that spends a lot of time loooking in the mirror of gets more mani/pedi's than you.

Yeah, I suppose it's worth pointing out that none wanted a slob, either.
The latest case of an hot woman dating an average guy that really got me surprised was Naya Rivera and David Spade. I still don't understand it but it was probably his sense of humor or something.

Or maybe she wanted a change from all the drama.
 
I'm extraordinarily vain, and wouldn't be caught dead with someone who wasn't in my league. It's an LA thing. If I'm going to be seen in public with someone, they have to be up to my standards.

An exception might be made if he's super rich.

lol side note, we've got lots of shallow people around here! I can't even talk, I'm still bragging about the fact that my ex was a solid 9 when I'm a 7 tops. She was also a 10 on the bitch scale though. Looks aren't everything!

The usual beauty standards. By society's definition is easy to tell who's conventionally attractive or not.
 
I'll add that I'm glad the fashion industry has not been too successful in ensnaring men yet (though they've made progress).
 
I do think a lot of women date way below their league, in terms of looks and personality. I can't tell you how many amazing women I know who have dated totally gross, ugly assholes, and I'm not exaggerating (including my mom and close friends). Maybe it's a phenomenon I as a gay woman am luckily left out of.

lol. Hey you've known of my shallowness for a while now. Lol. And I know you've had shallow moments😉. Lol. Haha 10 on the bitch scale! I've never dated a guy that was that big of a jerk. But I have dated losers just because they were hot. That did not work out. I dated a guy that was responsible and had a good job, and he was really into me and wanted a serious relationship. I just wasn't feeling it though. I wasn't that physically attracted to him. It's no wonder I'm still single, I'm picky. Lol

Anyone see the movie She's Out of My League? A dorky guy dates a hot girl and questions their relationship. Well the point is that if you're a good person on the inside then you're a 10. So don't worry @Blaze on the inside you are a 9. 😉 lol. I'm a 10 though😛. Lol

Maybe it's because I don't really find the conventional beauty standard attractive usually. At least when it comes to the typical Hollywood type, like how everyone find Megan Fox so attractive, but she was always just okay to me. Sometimes I just fail to see what should be considered attractive or not.

@Ethan Reigns Well the ex wasn't crazy, she was just a bit on the mean side 😛 My axis would be niceness as opposed to crazy. Now I'm very much into dating someone who's nice over just about anything else.

I think we've all dated losers just because they were hot 😛 But that's part of growing up right? Realizing that prioritizing personality over looks is a good thing. You still need that romantic connection though, of course just because someone is nice doesn't mean it's a good match. But usually if you're into someone, you'll find them good looking whether they are considered good looking or not by other people.

And why am I a 9 and you a 10!! I want a popular vote on that one!

Sure. Both sexes will date someone who society deems less attractive than them. Attractiveness is subjective so sometimes a person will find someone beautiful even if society doesn't. Sometimes you get to know someone and fall for their personality before their looks. Don't know that there is much science in it.

That being said I think the majority of relationships are between people who are fairly similar on the attractiveness scale; like a 8 & 7....t.v. and movies likes to exaggerate the 10 & 2 falling for each other.

When I saw the first Thor movie in theaters, I was lie should I be attracted to Loki the bad guy? lol. But I did think Tom Hiddleston was hot in Kong: Skull Island. Idk something about him being smart action adventure guy I found really hot. lol.

I guess I've not grown up yet. lol. But yea, I've dated guys that I wasn't initially attracted to, but then thought he was cute late because I liked his personality. But pretty much I'm shallow. 😛 lol

I've not thought about it much, but then I don't really care about my appearance. I am conveniently attractive when I bother but I usually don't (fashion and makeup is far too much effort). Specifically from guys who know me as me, I get double takes and awkward compliments when I'm dressed up fancy. And somehow more chivalrous. I'm like, hey it's still crass and disgusting me, I'm just in a dress now.

I dunno about exes but I'd say my partner is a bit more attractive than me.

Good point. It actually surprises me that someone *coughBlazecough* wouldn't find Tom Hiddleston (as Loki) devastatingly attractive. Then again, my tastes are very specific. Guys have to be tall, with great hair, pretty eyes, and be slightly off-kilter. Tattoos are a plus. 😛
