Do you Bangels like Spuffy... a little?

The only Spuffy scene I like is the one where she's kicked out of her home and Spike lays with her. I don't really like any others, and that includes Spike, "You're the one," speech.

The most interesting thing about Spuffy pre-Season 7 was how destructive it was in Season 6. I enjoy it as a viewer, but that's because it's dark, ballsy and intriguing writing, not because it was ever romantic or something that I'd want to happen to Buffy if I was thinking of her as a person rather than a fictional figure. I completely understand how Buffy could fall down that hole after her trauma, and the most inspiring thing about Spuffy before Spike gets the soul is how Buffy pulls herself out of it. There was never anything that made my shipper sense tingle, no matter how many nights Spike spent saving Buffy.

Season 7 Spuffy is just not very engaging for me. I'm not a huge fan of ensouled Spike, but it's good of Buffy to try and help him redeem himself. It must have tough to internalise the fact that he was truly a reformed character and couldn't be judged based on what he did to her and the people she loved as a soulless vampire. I also appreciate his support of her in S7, but it doesn't make me want to ship them, and without going into detail, I don't think his ensouled behaviour is exactly spotless in my book, either.

So no, I've never felt much for Spuffy. The best Spuffy scenes are one-sided pleasures for me at best "“ sure, I'm happy when Buffy's happy because her POV makes sense to me, but I can't relate to Spike.

I liked Spuffy, until, as my friend says, spike got "rapey". Personally, I dont believe in the love of Spuffy, only the lust. Its just not the kind of relationship I can ship.

This is probably the only spuffy scene that made me go "awww" 🙂

On the other hand, nearly every Bangel scene had me going "aww", especially the whole of I Will Remember You 🙂

I am Bangel and, obviously, do not like to see Buffy and Angel with other people, even if Angel/Darla and Angel/Nina, were not unpleasant to see. These stories, at that precise here and now, had sense (unlike the cangel) I'm sorry, but I find cangel meaningless.

In the fourth/fifth season I did not like Riley, and when he left, I certainly have not cried. I changed my mind when I saw the scenes spuffy. The only positive thing of the spuffy is that has made me more tolerant towards Riley 🙂 Certainly I'm not a fan of Buffy/Riley, but compared to the Buffy/Spike, Briley was like a breath of fresh air.

No, I do not like nothing of the scenes spuffy

I had no problem with Spuffy. I like it in a different way than I like Bangel. I thought the dynamic between Buffy and Spike was really interesting, and while as a fan the passion wasn't there for me like it was for Buffy and Angel, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it.

My take on Buffy with Spike is that they were close, very close, and that they both needed one another. I think that Buffy loved him, in a way, but I don't believe that she was in love with him, if that makes any sense. Not like she was with Angel. Despite that though, I still think that Buffy cared tremendously for Spike. And actually, that's one of the best parts of Spuffy for me (I mean it). Spike is there for Buffy, always, but theirs isn't a "forever" romance (which is how I see Buffy and Angel). I mean, the way Spike went out in "Chosen" was the perfect ending to Spuffy for me. "No you don't, but thanks for saying it". That didn't lessen Spuffy for me, not at all.

So yeah, I like Spuffy. The speech from Spike to Buffy in "Touched" is a fantastic scene. S5's "Intervention", when Spike goes through torture from Glory and doesn't give up Dawn, the end of that episode is phenomenal. And I thought the dynamic between Spike and Angel in S5 of the Angel series was super interesting.

But while Spike is one of my favorite characters, and while the Buffy/Spike romance is one of the best parts of the show during the back nine of the series, I just never get the same passion as I do from Bangel. To me, Buffy and Angel are just forever, even if they aren't right now. My favorite romance of all time. 🙂

Spike always understood the psychology of what was going on around him whereas Angel was not interested.
Im a massive Bangel fan but spuffy never bothered me. I quite liked it, not all of it though like spike becoming obsessed with buffy but the friendship they sometimes had, well if that what it can be called, was sometimes quite touching.

I admired spike when he was being tortured by glory he never said a word and then buffy kisses him, their definitely was something there between them.

Whether i think buffy really loved him, im not sure, i think she did but in a different way to actually being in love with him.

I think in the end they understood each other like no one else could.

I am huge massive Bangel fan, posters, cliping, mousemats etc of the couple and love their realtionship, but in season 6 it put me off a bit with the Spuffy as I said in the "Buffy and Sex" thread I mention that when Angel and Buffy have sex it was done beautiful showing their love was real and true but when it came to Buffy and Spike it was rough and painful and that's all I saw in season 6 and it really bothered me with the rape scene it was disgusting and after that I knew I couldn't support Spuffy, I really didn't like the obessed Spike either it was creepy and weird, I did like when Spike kept his mouth shut about Dawn, as we know in season 4 he went to Adam and could of done the same thing in season 5 but he didn't which I am glad about, I would of liked him staked in season 4 but he did have his moments later, season 7 I did like Spike more but still didn't like Spuffy I did think Buffy did start to get feelings for him as he did stood by her side but I do think she loved him as a close friend but not IN love with him like Angel, like people said during season 7 it showed Buffy truely still loves Angel especially in "Chosen" and in "Dirty Girls" when Buffy was askes Faith about Angel and making sure he was okay, overall I didn't like Spuffy and don't think I ever will but at least he did help the team a lot but I will always be a Bangel fan 🙂

I appreciate their relationship for what it was. I know why Bangel didn't last & had to accept it just like Buffy & Angel did. But I will never believe that Buffy loved Spike like she loved Angel. I don't believe that was intended & I don't see how people get that. She learned to have a certain kind of love & respect for him but it wasn't the kind of true love she had with Angel, no where even close. But the thought or sight of them together in any way they were didn't bother me. I was invested in Buffy's story & Spike is a part of her story.

I liked their relationship once Spike got his soul back and I was even ok with most of it before that. I wasnt a huge fan of their sexual relationship though 🙁

I am both a Bangel and a Spuffy fan. Yeah that is right, I ship both 🙂
I ship Bangel while they are Bangel and Spuffy while they are Spuffy. Even in season 6.
Yes, it was an abusive relationship, but they BOTH abused each other, physically and mentally. Buffy exploited and used Spike, taking advantage of the fact she knew he was obsessed with her, and Spike exploited her and used her fear of being "different" against her once he figured it out to turn the tables and gain the upper hand.

I do think Spike loved her, and I think Buffy loved him, but not the same kind of love she had with Angel. A complicated love. With Angel, it was much more pure and true. A "true love" if you will.
With Spike, I think what they had was a mutual respect, and understanding of each other. They, in a way, made each other grow as people, for the better. So for that reason, I cherish the relationship. Yes, spike crossed the line with the attempted assault, but he did not have a soul, and so while not acceptable, it is believable that he would go there. But Spike, being a different sort of vamp in the idea that he has always held onto some human tendencies, became revolted by himself and thus went onward to get his soul. Most people do have to hit rock bottom at some point in their lives and soul search and go through various changes, and odd behaviors before they find balance and harmony within themselves, and that is what Buffy and Spike did for each other. If anything, I think Buffy's purpose in the Spike+Buffy arc was to teach Spike how to be a better man. I think she helped him more than he helped her.

I've enjoyed Spuffy while the first television run. I think it was because Bangel was about 3 years "gone" by then and therefore it was kind of "out of sight, out of mind". Also, from today's point of view, I was maybe a little too young back then to understand the questionable aspects of Buffy's and Spike's relationship. Now me as a grown up person can't find many positive things in Spuffy. That's not the kind of a relationship I could ever accept for myself - therefore I don't like it. To me there must be real love, kindness, passion and loyalty between lovers (Bangel), not lust, pain and emotional and physical abuse only (Spuffy).

In one word : No.

The thing is I don't mind their relationship as ennemies in season 2 and I don't mind when Spike has a chip but still wants to be evil in season 4. What I hate is their relationship in seasons 5 to 7.

Season 5 :

1) I think that it was obsessive and pathetic from Spike’s part in season 5 :

- We see Spike stealing and sniffing Buffy’s clothes. (Shadow)
- We see Spike stealing Buffy’s pictures. (Listening to Fear)
- Spike goes into Buffy’s room knowing fully well she’s probably naked since Buffy and Riley were together in Buffy’s bed a few minutes before… (Into the Woods)
- Spike has Harmony play Buffy and then has sex with her after not having sex with her in a long time. (Crush)
- Spike tells Buffy that he will let Drucilla kill her if she doesn’t tell him there is something there or that someday there might be a chance that they get together. (Crush)
- Spike has a Buffy Robot made and has sex with it. I find that to be so creepy.

2) Buffy insults and hits Spike every chance she gets.

Season 6 :

I probably hate their relationship the most in this season because it gets so abusive and I might be weird but I don't like to watch abuse in a relationship...

1) Spike knows how depressed Buffy really is and he keeps telling her things to make her feels like she came back wrong and like she’s not human anymore :

- Don’t you get it? Don’t you see? You came back wrong. (Smashed)
- ‘Cause you’re the one that’s changed. (Smashed)
- Came back a little less human than you were. (Smashed)
- Some demons love ‘em. The way they vibrate makes the skin twitch. That the kinda demon you are, luv? (DoubleMeat Palace)
- I’ve never been with such an animal. (Dead Things)
- You wanna see the bite marks? (Dead Things)

2) Spike alienates Buffy from her friends and family. He tries to keep her away from them :

- It’s only a matter of time before you realize I’m the only one here for you, pet. You got no one else! (Smashed)
- She doesn’t fit in anywhere. She’s got no one to love. (Smashed)
- You see … you try to be with them… but you always end up in the dark …with me. What would they think of you … if they found out … all the things you’ve done? If they knew … who you really were? No … don’t close your eyes. Look at them. That’s not your world. You belong in the shadows… with me. (Dead Things)

3) Spike and Buffy have degrading sexual intercourses :

- Spike and Buffy beat and insult each other before having sex while smashing a building.
- Spike and Buffy have sex near a dumpster.
- Spike and Buffy have sex while Spike makes Buffy watch her friends in the Bronze. While they have sex, he makes her feel bad by telling her ”What would they think of you … if they found out … all the things you’ve done? If they knew … who you really were?”

4) It’s a relationship of use. Spike uses Buffy’s depression against her so that he can have her and Buffy uses Spike by having sex with him to feel something because she doesn’t feel anything.

5) They have a sadomasochistic relationship (They use physical violence against each other quite often…).

- They beat each other before they have sex in smashed.
- Buffy usually hits Spike before leaving after they have sex. (SPIKE: Well, isn’t this usually the part where you … kick me in the head and run out, virtue fluttering?
BUFFY: That’s the plan … (embarrassed) …soon as my legs start working. )
- Buffy beats the crap out of Spike in Dead Things.

6) Buffy feels ashamed and she’s disgusted with herself because of her relationship with Spike.

7) Spike attempts to rape her in ”Seeing Red”.

Honestly, Spuffy makes it very hard for me to watch season 6. I find myself feeling disgusted or rolling my eyes during most of their scenes. I jmuist can't get into a relationship like that and I never will...

Season 7 :

1) I hate when everyone thrrow Buffy out of her own house and how Spike is the only one who stands up for her. Come on now! Buffy, Giles, Willow and Xander have been there since season 1. They should be more important to the writers than Spike. I’m not saying that Spike shouldn’t be an important character. All I’m saying is that the core four should be more important than him. The writers shouldn’t have to bring everyone down to make Spike looks better.

2) We see Giles, Willow and Xander way less than we used to. It almost feels like season 7 became the Spike and Buffy show. Giles, Willow and Xander became secondary characters that aren’t that important. That’s sad.

3) They don’t really deal with the attempted rape. It should take Buffy much longer (if ever) to trust Spike and to get close to him after the attempted rape. They also should talk about it much more before they can get over it. Nobody can get over an attempted rape like that.

4) Nothing romantic happens between them in season 7. They don’t go on a date and they don’t even kiss.

5) When Buffy finally tells Spike ”I love you,”, Spike tells her ”No, you don’t. But thanks for saying it.”

6) Buffy doesn’t see fat grandchildren in the offing with Spike. In my opinion, that quote shows she doesn’t see her future with Spike.

7) In season 6 and 7, we almost never see Buffy smile or laugh. She almost always looks miserable. She’s not happy with Spike.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don’t get Spuffy for all those reasons. I tried to get Spuffy but I just can’t get it and I almost feel abnormal for not getting it since it’s so popular.

By the way, I hope that this doesn't sound like I'm bashing the Spuffy shippers because I'm not. I understand and respect the fact that we all have different opinions. I just don't get the Spuffy ship. 😉

Of course I'm a Bangel 🙂

The fact is, I don't like Spike and Buffy as a couple cause I never actually believe it was love. It was something intense for me, but not love.
I understand why they would make Buffy and Spike get together but I just don't feel for them. I never bought their relationship as love. It was a mutual need driven by pain and desperation at first and then it turned maybe into something more for Spike but I never, ever felt love from Buffy's side.
And they both felt misery most of the time..that is not love.

But the funny thing is..they don't bother me that much. I can see their scenes just fine (except some scenes). The speech in Touched was fine and also the other scene you guys mentioned.
I can stand them while when we talk about Cangel..that's pure nonsense and I actually find their scenes absurd.
