Do you believe in Angels?

For thousands of years, people have believed in these winged beings; there has to be something going on here.

The descriptions of angels rarely vary, and this is rather constant the world over. Humanoid. Wings. Bathed in light. Ofttimes appearing in life and death situations.

What do you believe? Do these creatures actually exist? Could they possibly be travellers from another galaxy? Or, are they truly "messengers of God"?

I can tell you from personal experience, there is something out there, and it definitely matches the "angelic" description. I'm just curious about other people's beliefs/opinions. 🙂

Aliens, Jetpack, Searchlight.......Simple!

The noise from the jetpack could also be misinterpreted as the heavenly choir sometimes described as well.....?
 
Sorry, but the only Faith I have is on my Avatar 😛 .....So I have to believe it's either Extra-Terrestrials or Time travellers from the future..... 😎

This was never about faith or religion. 😛 Just speculation and different theories. I'm not particularly religious, but when I've actually seen something with my own eyes...well, there you go.
 
I've never seen or experienced anything I couldn't explain so I tend to take a rather sceptical view of that kind of thing. I would love to believe that there is something
out there, I really would....and I also believe there are things we just don't understand within our world.

As someone once said "I pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space, cos there's b*gger all down here on Earth"

You say you've seen something.....do tell. That kind of thing intrigues me......
 
Yes. I'm not saying I believe in celestial winged creatures, but I do believe that loved ones watch over us. I don't see anything wrong in believing there is something else out there 🙂

Years ago, my mum and stepfather went to Las Vegas and I was charged with babysitting her brand new Jaguar (a birthday gift from stepdad). Unfortunately, after downing A LOT of vodka, I decided it would be fabulous to drive up to Hollywood. Late at night. In mum's NEW CAR.

Got to Hollywood, parked, walked around a bit, then decided to go home, but was so out of it I couldn't find the car. So I flagged down a cab and told him to find it. He did. So I got in and started driving. Of course, I got lost up in the hills. Mind you, I was completely out of it; on a two-way, windy road that had no guard rail...just a sheer drop into a canyon. Very, very dark up there, sometime after midnight. I fell asleep...I only know that because I was awoken by blaring car horns; I'd drifted into oncoming traffic and my first reaction was to jerk the wheel to my right...but there was NO guard rail...only the edge of the canyon. It was like slow motion. I knew I was going to crash hundreds of feet down. But right when the front tires slipped over the edge, the car came to a complete stop. Which was impossible, because the car had been going VERY fast, was off-road (in dirt and rocks), and there was only empty space in front of me...and as I sat there, the car was moving in reverse. I was not driving. I was sitting there, not moving, but the car was. Then it stopped...I was petrified, because I thought for SURE I was going to die. And when the car suddenly stopped, then reversed without any help from ME, I was freaking out! After a few minutes I was COMPLETELY sober; and that's when I saw a "man" standing a few feet away. But it was completely dark outside....he was sort of glowing. There was light around him, like he was a reflection of something. I was SO SCARED!! I just sat there looking at him. And I heard a voice in my head that said, "Go home now, and God be with you."

That's it. I'm not particularly religious, but when I "heard" the voice, it was like my body was weightless. It's hard to explain. Even now when I remember this, I feel like I'm nearly...floating. It's so odd, and difficult to explain.

I believe there's something currently unknowable out there, but I'm not sure what. I don't believe a lot of glurge out there (those emails of how angels saved one good girl from rapists but not another, for example), and some of the beliefs strike me as ridiculous or convenient. For example, many are killed, but one who plays dead saves herself, but people praise God (and try to make the quick thinking one who played dead to believe God is responsible for her being alive) while ignoring all the dead. I've seen that in a disaster as well, a bunch of miners thought survived and people praised God, but when it turned out that the miners were actually dead then everyone forgot about God rather than asking why God wasn't there. Sometimes it can be twisted, like one woman who shared of her story of being tortured in many ways but was sure God would not let her die--but God did allow all that other stuff, and the thought he wouldn't let her die would be terrifying to me rather than comforting.

And finally, there are many who try to trick people into thinking their power lies outside themselves, one of those being God (and angels, etc), because by tricking people into thinking their strength likes outside of themselves then they can manipulate those people into acting against their own self-interest to keep the favor of said God (or angels, spirit guides, karma, etc), but it's a trick (though in some cases, even the scam-artists scam themselves).

That said, I have heard stories from people of encounters that sound believable, and I've had strange encounters of sorts myself (I wonder if I had more faith in authority figures if those strange encounters might not have included paranormal protectors of some kind). I'm not sure what's going on but I think the mind dresses up the inexplicable experience in a way to make sense out of it (so that it conforms to their religious beliefs, for example, whatever religion or weird belief that may be). These intrigue me, and they've contributed to a wild scifi (emphasis on fiction) concept I've come up with regarding the paranormal.
 
I absolutely believe the "paranormal protectors" theory. Yes, there's definitely something/someone out there...and whatever/whoever it is, seems to be interested in our affairs.

We'd be naive to think that we're completely alone in this universe. As to the origin of these entities, who's to say? In any case, it's comforting to know that someone is keeping an eye on our barely-evolved race.

But I'd be lying if I didn't say that the concept of angels watching over us is very, very compelling. 🙂

We're definitely not the only beings that exist that would be impossible.
 
My grandmother died when I was quite young, and I've always believed she was a sort-of guardian angel, but I don't think of her with wings and a halo, I just think of her as an entity with my best interests at heart. I look at myself and my personality, and I question where it came from and where it goes when I die. Whilst I'm skeptical about most things, I believe in a life after death, I'm just not sure where that life is or what celestial plain we end up in at the end (or the beginning). I don't know if your soul turns into something, or whether they're just souls, but I think souls can be roaming around and I definitely believe in soul reincarnation, because everything lives on in some form. Even death creates life.

So yeah, while I don't believe in religion, I believe in belief. I guess that's the best way to describe it.

With most of my opinions I'm very logical; science over faith. But this is something I've had with me since I was little and I think it's there for a good reason. 🙂

I believe. I'm not sure that I believe they are messengers sent from God necessarily, but I believe there is something present that can't be explained. There seems to be to many unexplainable events/almost events that happen for me to believe that something/someone didn't play a role in it. If that makes sense....
 
No, there's simply no evidence. Eyewitness testimony is incredibly unreliable and there are way more plausible explanations for personal experiences people have had.

But if they did exist, I wouldn't think they're messengers from god because, obviously, this would require a god or gods to exist in the first place, and that's a whole new discussion.
 
And just because they help doesn't necessarily mean they have our best interests at heart. Ranchers generally take care to protect their livestock but only see them as food. And given how much pain many go through who claim to have experiences with guardian angels (at times), I'd wonder how many of those entities were actually trying to prolong the suffering because their misery (which they need to be alive for) is so delicious....especially when there's a bit of hope to be dashed in the future for seasoning.

I hope that's not TOO disturbing to share, and I'm not making a claim here, just introducing a possibility that might be fun to explore. (That said, I know someone who had a nightmarish encounter with a guardian angel. She sent the story in to some angel magazine, but of course they didn't publish it.)
 
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. If we are to think of scientific method, we have to propose an experiment where we are in control of all the circumstances. Suppose I get a new phone with a new phone number. I could imagine an experiment to determine whether the new phone can receive calls but if no one knows my new number, I could be waiting a long time and conclude that it doesn't work. The same would be true of angels and other supernatural phenomena - we are not able to control the experiment and some things are not in our control, so scientific method does not apply. The question is whether angels are extraterrestrials or whether they have a separate origin.
 
The Princess - oldest daughter of the King and Queen - in my country runs a school for communicating with angels, in case anyone is interested.
