Do you believe in ghosts?

They've been around since before Christ so why not?

Perhaps they aren't a thing of their own, but just a side of ourselves. Anyhow we've seen 'em, felt'em and so on for a long time, so there has to be something there.

I mean we only use so little of out brains, perhaps ghost and spirits are somehow manifestations of things we feel and see, but keep to ourselves, but somehow that otherwise unused part of our brain kicks in and makes them real. A lot more fantasy and sci-fi than I intended, but bottom line:

Yes I believe in them. What they are, that's the tricky part.
 
I voted no but I kinda agree with Ape. I can believe in them, but I believe they're something that only exist because we want them to, or because we need them for some reason. And if they're in our mind, who cares, if they serve a purpose they're good to have, even if they're not real.

But not-in-my-own-mind ghosts, I don't believe in. I wish I could but I'm just way to logical...
 
I believe that there are spirits more than ghosts... Something that we cannot see outright, but is there nonetheless... Like were being watched over...

Its also something that follows closely with my religion, which I won't get into...

But, sometimes I get that "being watched" feeling that creeps me out... It sounds stupid, but thats how I kinda know.. Meh

I believe in ghosts/spirits. I believe in them, because I can sometimes feel someone near me when there is no one there. It is so cool!
 
Same as eponine about the logical... unfortunately... how is that anyway, was it in some philosophy course that you became logical epo? Cause sometimes I wish I had never been to these courses. lol

But then, what about if you "see" one, lol... or feel one. I would believe only what I see but... how that s*cks! Neverland help !!! :sad25:
 
My head says no and my heart wishes they did (probably because I read too much sci-fi, fantasy and horror...actually, you can never read too much 😉)

Yes, I do believe in ghosts and spirits. I guess that part of it comes from my native American heritage and the rest because I have seen and felt them. I have a little story about something that happened to me when I was 15.. my grandmother was in the ER because she had a stroke and I was in the room with her, she kept mumbling and looking at the doorway, so I sat down next to her to see what was going on. She kept saying " Dont worry, I am fine. I will be with you soon" , I thought she had lost her mind. Then I looked at the doorway and there stood my uncle (who had passed 5 yrs earlier) plain as day, nodding his head and smiling. To make a long story short, my grandmother passed away a week later. I know what I saw and I feel as though he was there because he knew that her time was near and he was ready to help her "home".

Hehe, well, I don't know really. I guess my dad taught me everything I knew when I was a kid. And he is the most logical person I know. Plus, my parents were atheists so I never really learned anything about god or angels and those things some kids believe in. I never believed in Santa when I was little either, I didn't find it logical that he could visit all children on the same day.
 
Speaking about Angels, that's something I really would like to believe in. However I don't believe in God and Angels are kinda linked to God, so hence my problem. Still I'd like to believe in Angels as a human form of Angels. Nah don't know what I belive, but it'd be neat if there were Angels out there.
 
I think that they could exist, but then again.. sometimes i think that people just overexaggerate with their imaginations and think that they see/hear something. I myself have thought that i had an experience but then again.. ya never know... so i'm just gonna go w/ no because thinking about ghost wandering around your house and streets, watching your every move... it's kinda creepy.
 
I don't believe. I'm kind of a 'I'll believe it when I see it' person. I just think its a trick our minds play on us.

I believe in spirits. Me and my mom are big into that. Ummm, I believe because I've had many experiences, and let's not get into them because when ever I think about it, I get the wiggins. 🙂
 
I love sci-fi/horror/fantasy fiction. That being said, I'm also a scientist, and someone whose daily job is very based in physics as they exist in the here and now. I need proof. This is where my oft-commented-on likeness to Gil Grissom from CSI is most obvious. I will nod to the hypothesis they exist. Now prove it. Develop something that will produce a ghost consistently...something that can be replicated...and I'll believe.
 
i've heard of scientific research in the field of the such matters and from what i remember there was lots of words like asterial plains and things.

which was later explained as different layers of reality.

also wasnt there some experiment that showed that the body looses mass at the moment of death?

You mean the 21 grams theory, which got a boost of interest thanks to the movie of the same name.

In 1907 six terminally ill people were weighed at the moment of death. The first body, it was reported, lost exactly 21.3 grams. The doctor then repeated the experiment with dogs, who lost no equivilant weight. Thus, the human soul was declared to weigh about 21 grams. The problem is that a dying patient will lose lots of body fluid in various forms anyway. Six patients is far from enough to declare the findings accurate. Questions have been asked about the doctors apparatus, some saying that it wasn't precise enough to measure 21.3 grams anyway. And how, in 1907, did the doctor accurately pinpoint the exact moment of death from tuberculosis?

So, out of six tests, two had to be discarded, one showed an immediate drop in weight (and nothing more), two showed an immediate drop in weight which increased with the passage of time, and one showed an immediate drop in weight which reversed itself but later recurred.

The experiments have never been repeated, because few people are willing to spend their last moments on earth rigged up to a gigantic weighing scales. Volunteers?
 
I believe that I've seen one. I think it was my Grandad I saw. I was living with my Grandma at the time and I got up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet. The toilet was right down the hall from my room. I was always scared of going to the toilet in the middle of the night because of various different reasons but none of them were ghosty reasons. Anyway, I had a routine that I would wash my hands before the flush cos the noise scared me! I know... 'fraidy cat! So I flushed the toilet and made a run for my bedroom door that I'd strategically left open so I could run in. I turned to close the door and in the doorway of the bathroom was a walking silhouette. Like a shadow. Clear as day. He looked at me and then retreated into the bathroom again. I wigged, slammed the door and leaped into bed. I think it was him cos I had a warm feeling when he looked at me. I could've been delusional but I like to believe it was him!


I had another encounter that made me believe it more. I was walking around the shops with my friends one day. We were just having a laugh and chatting when this strange old man stopped me. At first I said excuse me and tried to keep on walking but he wouldn't let me go. He looked as if he was staring at my hair and then he said something. He said: "You, young lady, have a guardian angel. I can see him in your aura.". I thought he was mad and tried to pull away again. Then he said: "He's a middle aged man, wearing a pin striped suit and holding a camera." At the time I thought it was really strange and said "Thanks!" to humour him. A few weeks later I went to visit my grandma. She had decided to go through some old photos and stuff so I helped her out. I found a picture of a man in a pinstrip suit, holding a camera. I got freaked out and asked who it was. Grandma said: "Oh, that was your grandad when he was younger. Wasn't he handsome?" Tell me that's not freaky!
 
I voted unsure, leaning towards believing. I have lived in a place that had some VERY strange things going on. I would dare call it haunted.
