Do you celebrate Valentine's Day?

Personally, my husband and I have never been big on Valentine's Day. We rarely have celebrated it in the 11 years we've been married, and I personally feel it's just a "holiday" invented by commercialization. I get so pissed off at these commercials that air this time of year, proclaiming "Show her you love her by buying her ___________". Buying someone a gift does NOT show them how much you love them, or it shouldn't anyway...
 
Nope, whenever I'm with someone (I'm single this year) I don't celebrate it. I find it cheesy and a little bit tacky. I do not want a weird looking grey bear holding a heart that says "wuv u". And every guy I've dated has just been relieved I'm not into it, because I think a lot of guys feel uncomfortable with this demand to be extremely romantic on one particular day. I prefer it when there's little bits of romance throughout the year.

But you know if a guy wants to buy me diamonds for valentine's day I won't say no, haha.

I did see a very entertaining Valentine's card yesterday though. It just said on the front "I'm not bored of you yet" which I found hilarious!
 
I totally do. It's love day! Doesn't matter what kind of love - romantic or not. It's a day to celebrate love. I love it. 🙂

When me and my wife first got together we didn't celebrate it. There are a few holidays that we actually enjoy. This is not one of them. Yet, like the last two years and this year.. I've said that let's not get any gifts and I am still getting her something 🙂 heeheehee
 
I hate Valentine's Day. Always had. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I'm always single...

Anyways, I might be a hopeless romantic sometimes, but I find this holiday to be cheesy. Plus, it's just a reason to sell chocolate (hence, FAT/SUGAR) and crappy cards or flowers that will go bad a few days later.


But I don't condomne(sp?) those who celebrate it. I just can't stand it being celebrated everywhere, like you have to be in a relationship to be happy...
 
I never did care for the holiday. I liked that my wife and I frown on the holiday. It defiantly seems to be more of a commericalized holiday. I know there are some people out there that take it way too serious. People get in serious fights over this day. They hold the day up high.
 
In our 11 years, we might have celebrated Valentine's Day, like, 3 times. And once was just because he was literally deploying a week later, so it was the last holiday we had together for a year.

To me, it isn't in grand gestures that he shows me he loves me. A friend of mine said this, and I think it's a perfect representation of how I feel:

"Love is proven in the little things. When I fall asleep on the couch and he puts a blanket over me and snuggles. When he watches a chick flick once a month with me, the way he takes care of me when I'm sick, how he gets excited to come home and tell me about his day, how we can still laugh and joke like we did when we first met. How we are still each other's best friend... Diamonds don't say that. His smile says he loves me when he looks into my eyes."
 
I'll be honest, in my heart, I like Valentine's Day, and it's something I really want to be special. But as they so often are, what we want and what is are two very different things, and Valentine's Day has been a series of train wrecks for about six years running now. It doesn't hold a lot of happy memories.
 
I love Valentines day! And I'm mostly single for it! But I think it's adorable. I don't think it should be a day to 'show you love someone' or whatever 'cause you should be showing that all the time, but I like it as just a silly little thing for couples to do like buy the bears or make a special meal. It's an excuse to just do something a little differently I feel. I'm not fond of the commercial aspects of it and I think it's cuter if you do like, homemade stuff or something different from the card shop rubbish, but that being said I still have my first ever valentine's gift which was a bear holding a heart 🙂

It does make me feel a little down being single on Valentine's day but mostly I just think it's really a cute thing. A couple of times my friends and I have done stuff when we've all been single. Like one year we had a 'secret valentines' which worked like secret santa and my friend made me a homemade album of pictures of us all, it was really sweet! So I think it can be taken advantage of even if you're single!
 
Yes I love it 😀 It's a nice day that reminds men to try and be romantic even for just one day....however I've not met one yet that can actually carry off a nice valentines day and I'm single this year anyway so it does not really matter lol. My luck with men sucks lol.

But I love being romantic everyday so this day if I'm in a relationship is an excuse to shower them with romance, like it or not lol.
 
To me, it just feels so commercialised, and an excuse for corporations to sell more stuff like cards. If you truly loved someone, you should be doing all the things you do on valentines day anyway.

So yeah, that's just my two cents. It may be fabricated by the fact that I'm usually single around this time of year, so have never really had the chance to celebrate it. Oh well, I guess I'll just treat it like any other day.

A few years ago I took a random summer day and made a day out of it for my wife. I think she will always hold this day over anything I have tried to do in the past for Valentine's Day. I think that it was unplanned on hr behalf so it shows that I was thinking of her. Plus, we both tend to frown on the day anyways.

What I did was: I had my mom show up at our door.. she lives about 4-5 hours away. She took the kids for the day. I drove my wife to Nashville TN (about an hour away). I made reservations for The Melting Pot (its pretty nice if you've never heard of it). After this, I took her to watch some Roller Derby (in which I bought tickets for as well).

I still have yet to top this date. I have considered Hot Air Balloon rides, Bi-Plane Rides, possibly a "50s" date in which we go to an old burger joint and go to a Drive In.. I dunno.

This year for V-Day. I got her "Girls" on DVD. I am considering adding some chocolate and a Harry Potter snuggie, haha
 
I've never celebrated Valentine's, not really at least. I mean I guess in high school one got roses and stuff but as an adult I've enver thought to make a big deal out of it. I tend to forget about it in fact. 🙂
 
I don't have any plans to celebrate it this year but I don't see a problem with celebrating it. As far as romantic dates on the 14th go; I'd rather skip those as it tends to be a night that draws crowds everywhere and I'd much rather a quiet date without the crowds. To be honest, I do enjoy the all the heart shaped candy because I think they are cute; I'd pretty much always pick a heart shaped chocolate over a square one...though that really has nothing to do with valentines day lol.
 
I think I've gone through every possible response to the day in my years on this planet- from utter contempt to getting up at 7.30 on a Sunday morning to post a card through somebody's letterbox. This year I did post a card to somebody at work (anonymously) although I think it weirded her out a bit- I'm not desperately in love with her or anything, but I like her and wouldn't mind getting to know her a bit better as a person, so I bought a card that reflected that. It's actually quite difficult at times to find a card which doesn't suggest that you want to rip somebody's clothes off as soon as look at them.

Yes. Been with my Girlfriend for 4 years now (although I think this is only our 2/3 time of buying each others gifts on valentines day). We usually have a budget for it so we don't get OTT on the spending lol.
