Do You/Did you read the comics?

Just wondering if people here still read the comics, or plan to read them?

If you did and you gave up why'd you give up?

I have subscriptions to all of the Buffyverse titles from TFAW, and have had since Season 8 and "After The Fall" began, though, lately, it just doesn't seem the same old 'verse anymore.

Thats cool, I didn't know they had a feature like that. Does that mean they automatically send you the Willow/Angel and Faith and Spike spin offs?

I had the TFAW subscription for S8 but it was such a hassle, I always ended up being a month behind on the issues. I cancelled it for this season.

I'm following all of them right now, buying them digitally (and later the trades, since I like owning physical things), though I'm waiting to read the Willow mini-series -- I'll read that once it's finished.

I've never been interested in the comics. The show ended with season 7 for me.

Actually think I enjoy them more now than I did in the beginning.
Not sure why, but when I started reading season 8 I had a hard time reading and understanding the comics. Never recognized who was who etc. Today I've no such problems and I think that's a big reason why I enjoy them much more now.

Must do a re-read of season 8 and see if the comics are actually better now or if it's me who has learned how to read comics again.

We're doing a reread at the moment, and we were just saying we've enjoyed them more this time round then the first time reading.
I think I was the same, I'd spend time wondering who each of the characters was so I'd break from the story, that doesn't happen now, also having them to read in bulk is nice, lol

Im a newbie I dont have alot of the older comics from back in the day though I have been geting the trades and Omnibus..es
But I be dang if I miss a Willow issue and I do read all the new stuff

I collect every issue of Buffy the day it comes out. For everything else Whedon related I just get the collected editions.

As far as old comics go.. I'm very picky about what I buy.
All of Season 8. Literally everything.
Some of After the Fall/Post-AtF. After the Fall: 1-17, 23-25. Spike: After the Fall. Angel: Only Human. Illyria: Haunted. Spike. (Angel 28-44 sucks)
Pre S8/AtF..
IDW: Any and all Brian Lynch. Spike: Asylum/Shadow Puppets
Dark Horse: Buffy Omnibus 1, Ring of Fire, Haunted, Angel: Long Night's Journey
And of course.. Fray, Tales of the Vampires, and Tales of the Slayers. You gotta read these. Seriously.

The franchise is called Buffy The Vampire Slayer, so I think it's fair to expect well, Buffy slaying vampires, right? Meanwhile, the comic turned out to be about Buffy-bot not-slaying the zompires. Yeah.

But seriously, I got tired of rehashing the same damn stories over and over again, endless shipper pandering and lack of any sort of character development. Those comics are boring, they offer no meaningful, engaging plot, just continuous MacGuffin chase and lore nonsense nobody cares about. Also, amateurish writing, sloppy art, ugly coloring, you know, general lack of quality, really.

I read them, but I can understand why people don't, it is such a mammoth task to even find out which comics you should be reading, before you even begin the task of reading them all... plus they take up a hell of a lot of space!

I've read them for a while, but I haven't in the past months. I guess my interest in the Buffyverse has lessened a bit. I'm sure I'll catch up at some point, though.

I started but I quit! Why? Because though I thought the start of season 8 was interesting it took a deep fall that it never recovered from. The whole Twilight arc was a bit hard to swallow and towards the end of it I frankly just felt mad at what Joss and company had done to the Buffyverse. Which is why I can't bring myself to read season 9, it makes me annoyed to think about it even, to me it isn't Buffy anymore... as someone who felt disappointed in season 6-7 of Buffy, the comics was a possibility of a quality rise in the storylines and continuation of the verse, obviously that didn't work out for me 🙂 So the comics will probably never win me over.

I read season 8 for the first time about two years ago and wasn't crazy about it. I found parts of it confusing and hard to keep up with; I'm sure part of that was being new I the medium...like others have said going back and rereading them lately has been enjoyable.

I was really excited for the start of s9 and A&F and was looking forward I reading them as they came out but fell behind after the first 8 issues of both titles. I recently bought all the issues I was missing and intend to catch up and keep up as they come out.

Part of the reason I fell behind was because of lack of extra reading time but also because I felt like nothing substantial was happening...especially in Buffy; if felt like all smoke and mirrors. That being said, I do sorta miss reading them and an going to give them another shot.

I read it, but I started reading s8 during s9. I stopped reading s8 after I saw Tara was not coming back in the comic and picked it up later.

Right now, I think the comic is pretty bad , and given the sales have declined 85% in the last few years I think others agree.

It's actually really not that hard. If you were talking about comics in general, then yea.. I kind of agree, but Buffy is pretty streamlined. There are a few spin-offs but you don't need to read them unless you just really want to.
Buffy: Season 8, issues 1-40,
Buffy: Season 9, issues 1-25,
Angel: After the Fall (Season 6), issues 1-17, and
Angel & Faith (Season 7), issues 1-25.

Seems pretty simple to me.

Yeah, except the comics just assume that you've read Fray, that you've read some of the classic Dork Horse comics, that you've read some of the IDW comics, that you've seen the unreleased pilot of the animated series not to mention watched the entire spin-off show. It is a mammoth task.
