I'm not sure if this was ever explained in S5, if it was, then I apologise.

Have you ever wondered about Ben? Like...was he a normal human, and then one day BAM, Glory's in you and there's nothing you can do about it.

Or is it something he had to contend with from childhood?

Does anyone know?

I don't think it was explained. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they went into the details like that. And quite frankly, I don't even care. He's so boring. 😱

I'm pretty sure Ben was Glory since birth, (for 25 years). So he's spent his whole life that way, but that's all we really know!

Also Ben was evil. He knew he could transform to Glory at any second and he still hung around Buffy and them putting them in danger. The scumbag.

I didn't dislike Ben. I thought the betrayal was well done and I felt empathy for the guy. It didn't hurt that he was easy on the eye.

I definitely would have been open to the idea of really focusing on Ben as a character. I would have loved some flashback episodes to moments in high school, primary school or as a child. Did his parents know? How did they react? What about him playing on the football team and then all of a sudden wearing a dress? How did he manage to get through university/college with Glory inside him?

I think that makes him a bit human...to tell you the truth. And he worked at the hospital, was he just supposed to not go to work because he might put Buffy in danger? Also, the only time he sees her outside of the hospital is at that spring break party and towards the end of the season, because she asked him to come. Even when he told Dawn that he wouldn't help her, I still didn't see him as evil. His whole situation sucked and it wasn't fair. Did he make some bad/stupid decisions? Sure. I just hate the term "evil" so much haha things in life aren't that black and white.

Oh, and to answer the question, heh...yes, I wish that we had more info about where he came from and how the Glory/Ben thing worked.

He cold've went and worked in a hospital in Chicago or something, but he chooses to be around the one person in the world he knows he shouldnt be around.
There were questions about Ben that were left unanswered, but nothing that would have actually added much to the story line. For that matter, there were questions about Glory that were never answered. I got the impression that there was a long and probably quite interesting back story about Glory, the Key, the priests who somehow came into possession of it, and the Order of the Knights of Byzantium, but it was purposely left untold, just to add to the mystery surrounding Glory. And, who knows? He might go back some day, fill in some of those blanks, and integrate them into the Buffy or Angel, or even Fray, story line, when you least expect it.

He had Glory from when he was a baby. And it was only later that Glory got powerful enough to emerge from her human cage (as in Ben). Must've been a hell of a surprise.
