Yes, male strippers. I realize that many people find them entertaining, but frankly, I think they look ridiculous.
A friend insisted that I accompany her to a Thunder Down Under show in Las Vegas...it looked so silly to me, that I'm sure my face was red the entire time.

Thoughts, opinions?
 
I saw Magic Mike. That was an okay movie.

It didn't look like a pleasent way to make a living but then Channing Tatum became an actor, and gained some perspective. 😉
 
I find most male strippers to be hilarious. I don't take them seriously. I've seen both Magic Mike movies. I actually like second movie better. It's not as serious as the first. There's maybe two scenes that I think are kinda hot. But even then its funny. I've been to one bachelorette party that had a male stripper or entertainer. Cause they are entertaining on some level just not really sexually. Female strippers is a different story. I mostly feel sorry for them. But I'm also very conservative and shy about nudity.
 
I'm extraordinarily open-minded, yes. But seeing women in the audience just lose it (whole stuffing money in the guys' thongs) is just excruciatingly painful for me.
There's just something unmanly about half-naked men prancing around like that. Total turn off.
 
I'm with you on that, male strippers are ridiculous. I don't understand why women go crazy fo them, but I bet none of them are sober 🙂 But everyone has to make a living and so I don't begrudge them
 
That's just vaguely creepy. Though female strippers have to earn a living too.

The differnce to me (and I'm trying to keep this family friendly) is that I don't know many women who actually get turned on by men dancing in the undies, whereas men seem to be more visual and can be turned on by witnessing a woman dancing in her undies. I thnk women see male dancers as either embarrassing or funny, whereas men see stripping as far more sexual.

I get more turned on by women dancing in undies then men doing the same, and I'm into men, not women. Women just look prettier and sexier.
There is talk that some male stripper have taken to wearing costumes to make their act appreciated.

"Stripping" has a much more seedy vibe to it than say, dancing or burlesque. Sure, there's elements of both involved but stripping for money is selling your body and people in that situation don't always lead the glamorous lives tv and film would have us believe. The same way Pretty Woman glamorised prostitution, the reality is there are usually financial issues, addiction problems, violence, abuse and family problems at hand. That goes for men too.
 
I've been to a stripper show, with some friends for a friend's birthday. It was mostly just very funny, but also a bit embarrassing.

I've seen Magic Mike.... it was nothing like the guy I saw live. He wasn't a brilliant dancer and to be honest, just shoved his crotch into random womens' faces or gyrated around them. I was just praying he didn't come near me, I probably would've ended up lamping him one.

He found our friend, the birthday girl and started gyrating round her and pulling her face towards his crotch. All the time I was thankful it wasn't me.

I'm not sure about this, women are sexual beings too- in fact more so than men (just with better impulse control!).
I've seen straight girls get turned on by female dancers let alone male ones. I think the perception is that its all 'just a bit of fun' for the ladies on a night out but some of them really get into it. The like the attention/adulation even if its so obviously fake but they still go crazy.
Also there's more girls touching all over the male strippers wheras the reverse is rarer.
 
Well I do think that male strippers don't take themselves as seriously. They know they're just there to entertain and will be laughed at in good fun. Whereas I think female strippers are there to turn men on. Also male stripping is almost always done with a group of women and rarely one on one.
 
Although as someone has already said, women are more touchy with male strippers, I do think being a female stripper is a more dangerous career.

I think women are more likely to be exploited. I think there are some women who feel stripping is empowering and others who hate it and just do it for the money.

I think I read somewhere that quite a lot of students start stripping to pay for accomodation, food etc during university, because you can earn so much in so little time, compared to a job in a shop or restaurant.

I don't know for a fact (because I'm not a male stripper), but I expect that's the same for male strippers too, it's more of a money thing than an art thing....

Stripping does seem to become more attractive as a job when you gotta pay 10k upfront for school, that's a sad reality
I don't like stripping shows, whether they are male or female. Usually they just make me uncomfortable and sad. Maybe that's because I'm from a smaller town and most of the people working in that trade have addiction issues, or money issues.
 
I loved Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL if more strippers looked and danced like Channing Tatum I'd be all about the male strip club. #noshame

But on a serious note - there is a sad element to the business that I wouldn't really want to support or exploit. Although on the flip side of that judging the choice of people to use their bodies is equally as problematic. So I don't know...as long as people are safe and happy they can do whatever they want.

That is my problem with it. If people do it because they love it, and that's legitimately what they want to do as their career, than I am all for it and will support it. But then there's also a lot of abuse and exploitation when it comes to sex workers, so it's hard to know exactly what you are supporting. At least around here, it seems like male workers do have better working conditions. Usually make workers are part of groups that tour the province and/or Canada. They are more renowned than female workers, and are viewed almost more as entertainers. They put on shows the same way a theater group puts on shows. There's a lot less shame with male workers, some actually have a name for themselves, and the prices to go see them are a lot higher (aka, you actually pay to go see their show, you don't do that for female workers). Not to say that there isn't exploitation happening with male workers, I'm sure that there is, but their work do seem more glorified than the female work (which is partially why Magic Mike was a success).

Yup, that's how I feel too. And yes, women are totally shamed more than men in this industry.
I went to a strip club for a friend's bachelor party. Good looking girls with little clothes, should be great right? Not for me because I don't like sales people. The minute you're through the door they're throwing themselves at you trying to get you to pay a fortune for a private show. Very awkward experience.
